The Minister of Information And Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has said that the Federal Government will not prosecute repentant terrorists because there are international conventions that give them rights as prisoners of war and these rights must be respected.

In his interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Washington, United States on Friday August 20, 2021, Lai Mohammed said he spoke with the military authorities before he left Nigeria and they were observing the global practice which says that surrendered soldiers should be treated as prisoners of war.

“You cannot just shoot at them because there are international conventions that give rights also to prisoners of war. What the military is doing is that when they surrender, they are profiled to ensure that they are genuine and they reintegrate then into the society.

He further urged Nigerians to quit spreading negative and false narratives about the surrendered Boko Haram members in the North-East.
