Sandy Springs will host a free Snow Day Movie Matinee featuring the movie “Frozen” on Wednesday, Dec. 4, as an inclusive event for people with disabilities and their families at the Heritage Building on Blue Stone Road.
Families are encouraged to dress up, meet the characters, enjoy a hot chocolate and snack bar, and take home a goody bag from the event, which runs from 5:30-8:30 p.m., according to a news release.
All family members who want to participate should register for the free event at Heritage Sandy Springs.
A request from a Sandy Springs family with a child who has disabilities helped spark the development of inclusive and adaptive recreation programs within the community, according to Carter Long, the city’s Communications and Public Relations director. This Snow Day Movie Matinee is one of the first of its kind, he said.
The movie will be shown with closed captions and audio descriptions.
Other activities include a photo booth with a souvenir photo and a sensory table with imitation snow and other items. Snacks will be catered that include nut-free, gluten-free, and dairy-free options, Long said.
The city expects approximately 125 attendees including families and individuals with disabilities.
The Heritage Building has accessibility features such as accessible parking, ramps, signage, and restrooms. Floor space will be available for those people who prefer alternative seating.
The Heritage Building is located at 6110 Blue Stone Road in Sandy Springs. Attendees shoudl drive to the back of the building for entrance.
