The Atlanta Police Department is warning motorists of a fake parking ticket scam happening around the city.

The fake tickets left on vehicles have a QR code linked to a PayPal account, a Gmail address, and have typos and other errors. APD said none of those features are on legitimate tickets issued primarily by parking enforcement agency ATLPlus.

APD said in a statement that the public should carefully review any parking citations received, especially if they believe they were legally parked on a city street.

Drivers with questions about the validity of a parking citation are encouraged to contact ATLPlus. If a fraudulent parking citation is suspected, citizens should contact 311 or 911 to file a police report.

APD does issue parking citations, but they look different from the ones issued by ATLPlus. An example of an ATLPlus citation is above and an official Atlanta Police parking citation is below.

Payments for parking citations issued by the Atlanta Police Department are handled by the Atlanta Municipal Court.
