2 teens arrested after chase involving stolen BMW ends in crash in Boston – Boston News, Weather, Sports

0

BOSTON (WHDH) – Two 15-year-old boys were arrested Thursday after a police pursuit involving a BMW ended in a crash in Boston, officials said.

At around 9 a.m., a state trooper spotted a stolen 2025 BMW M850 traveling on Granite Avenue in Milton and tried to pull the vehicle over, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The BMW’s driver tried to evade police and led troopers on a chase on I-93 northbound, police said in a statement.

The chase came to an end when the BMW crashed into a pickup truck, which was launched into a State Police cruiser, according to police. The BMW then struck the guard rail on the right side of the highway before coming to a stop, officials said.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, police said.

Two 15-year-old boys were arrested on several delinquent charges, including receipt of stolen motor vehicle, unlicensed operation, and negligent operation, authorities said.

Traffic was temporarily diverted at Exit 11 and Neponset onramp. No additional information was immediately available.

Bill Belichick introduced as University of North Carolina’s next head football coach – Boston News, Weather, Sports

0

Bill Belichick had just been introduced Thursday as North Carolina’s next football coach when chancellor Lee Roberts came armed with a gift: a short-sleeved gray hoodie — a bit of a trademark from Belichick’s NFL coaching days — bearing a blue interlocking “NC” logo.

It was the visual confirmation, which will take some getting used to, that the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach whose name became synonymous with NFL success has taken an unexpected first dive into college coaching. He now leads a program at a school with a national name brand but one that has been unable to sustain fleeting pockets of high-level success when it comes to football.

“I’ve always wanted to coach in college football,” Belichick said during his introductory campus news conference. “It just never really worked out. Had some good years in the NFL, so that was OK.”

The school’s trustees approved terms of the deal to hire Belichick as the new football coach earlier Thursday. Specific terms have yet to be released, though the school said Wednesday there was a five-year agreement.

Belichick arrived wearing a dark suit, a light blue dress shirt and a tie bearing a white-and-light-blue pattern. He sat between Roberts and athletic director Bubba Cunningham, who paid his own tribute by donning a suit jacket with the sleeves cut off to mimic Belichick’s cut-off sideline look.

“I’m here to, as Bubba said, teach, develop and build a program in the way that I believe in,” Belichick said.

Moving on from the 73-year-old Mack Brown to hire the 72-year-old Belichick means UNC is turning to a coach who has never worked at the college level, yet had incredible success in the NFL alongside quarterback Tom Brady throughout most of his 24-year tenure with the Patriots, which ended last season.

Belichick holds 333 career regular-season and postseason wins in the NFL, trailing only Don Shula’s 347 for the NFL record, while his 31 playoff wins are the most in league history.

He had been linked to NFL jobs in the time since his departure from the Patriots, notably the Atlanta Falcons in January. That’s why word of Belichick’s conversations with UNC — first reported by Inside Carolina and confirmed by the AP last week — stirred such surprise as an unexpected and unconventional candidate.

There’s also at least a small family tie to the UNC program for Belichick; his late father, Steve, was an assistant coach for the Tar Heels from 1953-55.

When asked about fan concerns that he might leave quickly for the next NFL job, Belichick said: “I didn’t come here to leave.”

And when asked how long he might want to keep coaching, he quipped: “It beats working. My dad told me this: when you love what you do, it’s not work. I love what I do. I love coaching.”

He’s arriving on campus at a time of rapid changes in college athletics, from free player movement through the transfer portal and athletes’ ability to cash in on endorsements to the looming arrival of revenue sharing. And he’s taking over a program that for a school with a national name-brand — particularly as a tradition-rich blueblood in college basketball — has never sustained elite football success in its long history.

Trump’s incoming border czar hails meeting with Mayor Eric Adams: ‘NYC is about to get a lot safer’

0

Incoming border czar Tom Homan met with New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Thursday to discuss the city’s ongoing migrant crisis and strategies for deporting illegal migrants with the help of the New York Police Department.

Homan, who served as acting director of ICE during President Donald Trump’s first term, has been appointed by the newly-minted president-elect to serve as the border czar in the incoming administration.

“It went great,” Homan told Sean Hannity on Thursday night. “Look, I sat down with the mayor for well over an hour. He gets it. And today he proved that as the mayor in New York City, he’s more concerned with public safety than politics. I wish the mayor of Chicago and the San Diego City council mayor and Governor Pritzker, I wish they’d all take a page out of Mayor Eric Adams’ playbook.”

‘DESPICABLE’: IMMIGRATION ACTIVISTS FUME AT BLUE CITY MAYOR’S MEETING WITH TRUMP BORDER CZAR

Homan recalled how the “ex-cop” came out of Adams during their closed-door meeting Thursday in New York.

“He really cares about public safety, and he’s putting politics aside. He wants to help ICE take criminal threats off the street. He wants to help ICE look for national security threats. He wants to help ICE find over 340,000 missing children, which many are going to be in the city. So a great meeting.”

“Hats off to the mayor for coming to the table and working with us,” credited Homan.

Homan disclosed that since his meeting with the New York mayor, other leaders from across the aisle have reached out to him.

“I’ve been contacted by a couple of other mayors, even Governor Pritzker… he’s willing to sit down. So I think what Mayor Adams did today is not only good for New York City, I think it’s going to be a domino effect. I’m hoping that some of the mayors come forward after seeing the success we had today,” said Homan.

Homan further praised Adams for his desire to “understand” how ICE does its job and his willingness to use executive orders to address some of the “roadblocks” New York City faces.

“He [Adams] has told me that he’s going to look at executive orders to undo some of the damage done by de Blasio,” Homan remarked. “He would like to see us back in Rikers Island to arrest the bad guy in the safety and security of the jail, rather than release them into the community and put the community at risk and my officers at risk – the risk of somebody in the community rather than in a jail. He wants his law enforcement officers in the precincts to release criminal aliens to us and not on the street.”

NYC HOME IS NEARLY 60K ‘CRIMINAL’ MIGRANTS: REPORT

Homan addressed speaking with Adams about the NYPD assisting with locating and apprehending illegal immigrants throughout the city.

Adams “has a lot of uniforms in this city that know what’s going on in their neighborhoods,” said Homan. “The NYPD has one of the best intelligence apparatuses in the entire world, that he’s going to help us with. So we’re going to count on every uniform in this city to give us information on where the criminals are at.”

Recent reports indicate that New York City is currently home to hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants with nearly 60,000 “criminal” migrants amid increasing concerns about safety and resources.

Laken Riley’s name also came up during the meeting, according to Homan, while discussing illegal migrants roaming the streets of New York.

“Laken Riley’s killer was arrested here in New York City for endangering a child. If things were different, ICE could have took custody of him rather than releasing him and him going to Georgia to commit that horrendous murder,” Homan stated. “So he [Adams] asked a lot of great questions and I left that meeting feeling really good, and we’re going to continue our conversations.”

NYC MAYOR ADAMS MEETS WITH TRUMP BORDER CZAR: ‘WE HAVE THE SAME DESIRE’ TO GO AFTER ILLEGAL MIGRANT CRIMINALS

After the meeting with Adams, the incoming border czar expressed confidence, saying that New York City is “about to get a lot safer.”

“I think New York City is about to send a strong message to the rest of the world that we’re taking the right steps to take public safety threats, especially those who are not supposed to be in this country to begin with… We’re going to make New York safer,” pledged Homan.

LeBron James steps away from Lakers due to ‘personal reasons’ amid shooting slump, feeling ‘gassed’

0

Los Angeles Lakers head coach J.J. Redick said Thursday that LeBron James is away from the team due to “personal reasons.”

Redick called it an “excused absence,” as James’ status for Friday is up in the air – he was already dealing with a foot injury and missed Wednesday’s game, his first of the year.

Turning 40 later this month, it seems that Father Time may just be sneaking up on the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.

In fact, Redick admitted that James has felt “gassed” and the team feels they are mismanaging his minutes in his 22nd season. Redick also said James has asked to be taken out of a couple of games for some breaks.

“For us, we have to be cognizant as we play more and more games, just the cumulative effect of playing a lot of minutes and Sunday, being banged up with the foot thing, it felt like a good opportunity for him to get some rest,” Redick said.

James expressed a desire earlier this season to play in all 82 games, but both he and the Lakers are now being practical with the inevitable minor injuries that arise during any season.

While he already has six triple-doubles this season – including four-straight at one point – his 23.0 points per game are the lowest he’s posted since his rookie season, over 20 years ago with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

UFC STAR COLBY COVINGTON BLASTS LEBRON JAMES FOR OLD ‘DIDDY PARTY’ COMMENT: ‘F—ING SCUMBAG’

James looks like his vintage self on the glass and passing; he’s averaging 8.0 rebounds and 9.1 assists per game, both over his career totals. However, his three-point shooting has taken a dip.

Through 15 games, he hit three-pointers at a career-best 43.0% clip. In his next seven, though, he hit just four of 34 and had missed 20 in a row. He did go 6 for 11 from deep in his last game, dropping 29 points, but that was just the second time he eclipsed 20 in his last seven games.

The Lakers are on a 3-7 skid since their 10-4 start to the season, but Redick remains confident in their ability to fix the problems that have bedeviled them recently in offensive consistency and defensive intensity. Redick also said he has spoken frequently with James and Anthony Davis about the Lakers’ ability to stay mentally strong during bad stretches.

Cardinals’ Kyler Murray faces Patriots for 1st time since his ACL injury against them 2 years ago – Boston News, Weather, Sports

0

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Kyler Murray was driving to the Arizona Cardinals’ practice facility Wednesday when he realized that it had been almost exactly two years since he tore the ACL in his right knee in a game against the New England Patriots.

Then another thought crossed his mind: It was the Patriots who were coming to town this Sunday for the first time since the injury.

“Yeah, it’s a little weird,” Murray said with a wry grin. “I will try not to have that happen again.”

The injury on Dec. 12, 2022, cost Murray roughly 11 months of his career, but he has been healthy this season. And now the Cardinals (6-7) are clinging to playoff hopes when they host the Patriots (3-10) on Sunday.

Both teams have lost three straight games. The Patriots are coming off their bye week and haven’t played since a 25-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Dec. 1. The Cardinals are trying to move past a brutal 30-18 loss to NFC West rival Seattle which knocked them into a tie for last place in the tightly packed division.

Murray is coming off one of his worst games since the injury, throwing two interceptions that each eventually lead to touchdowns for Seattle. It was a rare blemish on an otherwise solid season — he has thrown for 2,862 yards, 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Now the Cardinals are pretty much in must-win territory.

“For us, all we can do is control what we can control and that’s this weekend,” Murray said. “Today, tomorrow, go out there on Sunday and play good football.”

Defending Drake

The Cardinals’ defense needs a better performance after giving up 409 total yards to Seattle last week, including 176 yards on the ground.

Tightening against the run game is particularly important against New England’s rookie quarterback Drake Maye, who’s averaging 9.1 yards per rush on 38 attempts. The highest rushing average for an NFL quarterback in a single season is 8.5 by Michael Vick in 2006, when he had 123 rushing attempts for 1,039 yards with Atlanta.

Maye’s far from one-dimensional. He has thrown for at least 220 yards in each of the past three games, improving rapidly. The Patriots took Maye with the No. 3 overall pick out of North Carolina.

“Yeah, I think he’s grown since he’s been playing,” coach Jonathan Gannon said. “I think he’s playing probably his best ball right now, probably just because of the experience. So definitely his skillset jumps out. You can see why he was taken so high. He’s a good player and he is ascending.”

Strange development

New England offensive lineman Cole Strange has a new haircut and could make his season debut, possibly at a new position.

Strange, who usually sports curly locks, returned from the Patriots’ bye week with a buzz cut. It could coincide with a possible switch to center after he was activated this week, making him eligible to see his first game action since suffering a season-ending knee injury in 2023.

A 2022 first-round pick, Strange started 10 games at left guard last season before being placed on injured reserve.

Strange has been working at both left guard and center since he returned to practice Nov. 20 and could see his first NFL snaps at the latter position. Longtime Patriots center David Andrews had season-ending shoulder surgery in October. Ben Brown has started the last eight games at center.

Playing spoiler

Murray said the Cardinals can’t take the Patriots lightly despite their mediocre record. He compared New England to where Arizona was at last season, when the team was out of the playoff race but playing some good football down the stretch.

Murray was particularly complimentary of Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez, saying he was a “big fan.”

Both players are Texas natives.

“We were kind of in a similar situation as them, then went on the road to Pittsburgh, Philly and (won),” Murray said. “They’re going to come in here and play hard. We understand that and we have to be ready to go.”

Future glimpse

The Patriots have already been eliminated from playoff contention, but it didn’t stop Maye from spending part of his bye week watching matchups between teams that are still jockeying for postseason position.

The reason? He wanted to get a glimpse — even if from afar — of the common traits of the teams still playing meaningful games at this time of the season.

“Especially when you haven’t felt it,” Maye said. “I haven’t really experienced a playoff game. You always hear about what it’s been in the past here at the playoff games and the environment here in Gillette … and watching Tom (Brady) and those guys duke it out. Those runs they had were special. I think you want that feeling and those guys in the locker room, some of them had it. A lot of us young guys haven’t.”

Maye hopes it serves as motivation going forward.

“I think we’re striving for that and can use these last four games as a challenge and as a step to, ‘Hey, what we have and what we got here on this team and who can help us and who can make some plays?’” he said.

Pritchard scores 27 and hits 7 3-pointers to help Celtics earn 20th win, power past Pistons 123-99 – Boston News, Weather, Sports

0

BOSTON (AP) — Payton Pritchard scored 27 points, and the Boston Celtics used a big second half to post their 20th victory and roll past the Detroit Pistons 123-99 on Thursday night.

Pritchard finished with seven 3-pointers to continue to build his early case for Sixth Man of the Year honors. Derrick White added 23 points and also had seven 3s help the Celtics win for the fourth time in five games. Pritchard made his 500th career 3-pointer, becoming the 10th Celtic to reach that mark.

Boston connected on 20 3s for the night and led by as many as 32 points in the fourth quarter. Six Celtics reached double figures.

Cade Cunningham had 18 points, eight rebounds and eight assists for the Pistons.

Boston played without All-Star Jayson Tatum, who rested with a sore right knee. Sam Hauser also sat out with a strained abdominal muscle. Coach Joe Mazzulla said Tatum’s knee issue isn’t serious.

Takeaways

Pistons: Coach J.B. Bickerstaff hoped his team would carry over the momentum from its previous win over the Knicks. Consistency remains elusive for a young team that has only posted back-to-back victories twice this season.

Celtics: After a slow start, Boston settled in during the second half and had a relatively easy outing. With Tatum resting, the offense was balanced, a positive sign for a team coming off its longest break between games this season.

Key moment

Boston outscored Detroit 34-24 in the third quarter to increase a 15-point halftime lead to 93-68 entering the fourth.

Key stat

The Pistons went 2 of 19 from the 3-point line in the first half and 7 of 37 for the game.

Up next

The Pistons host the Miami Heat on Monday. The Celtics visit the Washington Wizards on Sunday.

JESSE WATTERS: The Justice Department just released the bombshell report that we’ve been waiting for

0

Jesse Wtaters discusses the bombshell report showing that there were 26 FBI informants present at the Capital on January 6 on “Jesse Watters Primetime.”

DOJ IG REVEALS FBI INFORMANTS WERE PRESENT ON JAN. 6

JESSE WATTERS: The Justice Department just released the bombshell report that we’ve been waiting for. What actually happened on January 6th? The FBI had 26 confidential human sources there that day. 26 confidential human sources, a guy the FBI pays to spy for them. Of the 26 confidential human sources who were in DC on Jan. 6, four entered the Capitol during the riot.

An additional 13 entered the restricted area around the Capitol. So more than a dozen FBI spies participated in this so-called insurrection. A bunch of them broke into the Capitol. Their own inspector general says this is what happened. But that’s not what they told you when they testified under oath.

Wray testifies before Congress

Christopher Wray, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), speaks during a House Judiciary Committee hearing in Washington, DC, US, on Wednesday, July 12, 2023. Wray is testifying before the committee amid calls by some hardline conservatives for his ouster.  (Al Drago/Bloomberg via Getty Images)

Right. The FBI didn’t have undercover agents at January 6th. They had confidential human sources. So what’s the difference?

Well, a confidential human source doesn’t get health insurance or a pension. They’re just freelancing for the feds.

They get sat down, and the FBI says you’re going to work for me now. And if you don’t, you’re looking at 20 years to life. So these guys say, yes, sir. And they cozy up to people like the Proud Boys and anyone the feds wants to watch and control from the inside.

And these confidential human sources are under pressure to deliver. What does deliver mean? It means intelligence and big busts that get the FBI good headlines. According to the inspector general report, the spies were feeding the FBI Intel that said January 6th was going to get a little hairy.
