Dem claims Trump wielding nuclear strike authority ‘should terrify you’ — then people point out the obvious

0

Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., claimed that people should be terrified that President-elect Donald Trump will possess the power to initiate a nuclear attack.

In a post on X, Markey noted, “Come January, Donald Trump will have the sole authority to launch a nuclear strike. This should terrify you. That’s why @RepTedLieu and I are urging @POTUS to put guardrails on presidential authority to start nuclear war.”

Trump — who trounced Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 White House contest by winning both the Electoral College and the popular vote — previously served as president from early 2017 through early 2021. And during his Oval Office tenure, he never used nuclear weapons.

He has also been outspoken about the massive danger posed by nuclear weapons.

“To me, we have one really major threat: That’s called nuclear weapons,” Trump said earlier this year. “This isn’t Army tanks going back and forth and shooting at each other. This is obliteration,” he said of the powerful weapons. “We have incredible stuff, so does Russia. China has much less but” will “catch up,” Trump said, calling the issue the “single biggest threat by far to civilization.”

Josh Barnett, who lost in a Republican primary for an Arizona state Senate seat earlier this year, responded to Markey’s post by writing, “LOL he had the authority the last four years he was in office.”

PUTIN SIGNS REVISED DOCTRINE LOWERING THRESHOLD FOR NUCLEAR RESPONSE IF RUSSIA IS ATTACKED

Others made the point as well.

“Hey buddy, he was already president once,” Tom Gillis, who describes himself on X as a “Former PGA tour player,” declared in response to the lawmaker’s post.

“He had the power before and didn’t use it,” another individual, Shonathan Perrius, tweeted.

In a letter to President Joe Biden Markey and Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., declared that during his waning time in office the commander-in-chief could “safeguard the system against Donald Trump or any future unstable president, and make it constitutional.

“We urge you to announce that henceforth it will be the policy of the United States that it will not initiate a nuclear first strike without express authorization from Congress. In a situation where the United States has already been attacked with nuclear weapons, the president would retain the option to respond unilaterally,” the two Democrats declared in their letter to the president.

The lawmakers have long advocated for the policy shift, repeatedly pushing legislation on the issue.

“As the coauthors of the Restricting First Use of Nuclear Weapons Act — proposed legislation that prohibits any U.S. president from launching a nuclear first strike without prior congressional authorization — we urge you, in your remaining time in office, to change this unconstitutional policy,” they said in their letter to Biden.

“We first introduced this act during the Obama administration not as a partisan effort, but to make the larger point that current U.S. policy, which gives the president sole authority to launch nuclear weapons without any input from Congress, is dangerous. As Donald Trump prepares to return to the Oval Office, it is more important than ever to take the power to start a nuclear war out of the hands of a single individual and ensure that Congress’s constitutional role is respected and fulfilled,” Markey and Lieu noted.

Van Jones says ‘political class’ was outsmarted by Trump’s digital, online influencer campaign

0

Former Obama adviser Van Jones warned the political class that the strategies they believed would win over the American people are woefully outdated.

At the New York Times DealBook summit, political figures offered their autopsies of why the Harris campaign failed and how the Trump campaign rode the wave of America’s changing media. Jones argued that President-elect Donald Trump’s victory is just another example of the American people’s dissatisfaction with both political parties’ rule.

“I want to talk real,” he said as he turned to Republicans on the panel. “You guys shouldn’t be as happy as you are because, 2016, people voted for change because they were fed up and sick of it, gave Trump a chance. 2020, people voted for change because they were sick of Trump. 2024 they voted for change, they’re probably gonna vote for change a bunch more times because, this- something is off, man.”

He added further, “There’s something really going wrong for real everyday working folks in this country, and I’m not sure either party has an answer yet. We know how to beat each other up when the other one is in power, but can we solve any of these problems?”

Van Jones

TRUMP APPEARED ON JOE ROGAN’S PODCAST FOR NEARLY THREE HOURS: HERE ARE THE TOP MOMENTS

The CNN commentator argued that his hard-earned expertise comes from real world experience, something he says the political class is severely disconnected from.

“My perspective doesn’t come from the focus groups, it doesn’t come from sitting on CNN next to my beloved Anderson Cooper. I was on the ground supporting folks in Philadelphia trying to get folks to vote, I was trying to help Jewish voters get to the polls in the Philly suburbs, and I’m telling you, we are way off, the entire political class is way off,” he warned.

Jones recalled that while many initially laughed at the Trump campaign’s unorthodox tactics of focusing on internet influencers, they aren’t laughing anymore.

“First of all, digital is the new door knocking. You’ve got to understand that,” he said. “We were laughing our butts off at Donald Trump for suspending his door-knocking campaign and letting Charlie Kirk and Elon do a bunch of stuff online. We said, ‘These guys are idiots! These guys are stupid!’”

Adin Ross at a Lakers game

“Then you start knocking on these doors… you know what people come to the door with? Their phone in their hand. They’re in a 24-hour digital surround sound that has nothing to do with CNN, has nothing to do with any of the stuff that we do,” he added.

CARVILLE SAYS YOUNG ‘SNOT-NOSED’ PROGRESSIVE STAFFERS HURT HARRIS WITH ‘HISSY FIT’ OVER ROGAN

Jones then recalled that his own expectations were dashed when he asked his teenage son who the most influential people in the world are today. He had expected to hear former President Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey and Jay-Z, only to find they had been eclipsed by online video-game streamers like Kai Cenat, Adin Ross, Jynxzi, and Sketch on platforms he hadn’t ever heard of like Twitch, Kik and Rumble.

The news commentator then argued that the changing rules of American politics is something Trump and his campaign learned long before the rest of the political class.

“I’m telling you guys, the mainstream has become fringe and the fringe has become mainstream,” Jones said. “There are platforms, there are people out there that are getting 14 million streams, and we’re on cable news getting 1 or 2 million, and so there is a whole world out there.

“Kellyanne Conway, I hate to agree with her, but I do a lot of times – Donald Trump understood that and we didn’t. And it’s not just Democrats that don’t, the entire political class is way off, way off, way off.”

A new era has begun in North Carolina, and one former Tar Heel student is looking to make big bucks because of it.

Bill Belichick was introduced as UNC’s head football coach on Thursday – initial reports were scoffed at, but alas, it is all real.

Well, now that Belichick is wearing the light blue, a UNC alum has filed a trademark to commemorate the historic moment.

Anthony Proscia, who graduated in 2000, has filed for a trademark for the term “Chapel Bill,” of course, a play on the location of the school, according to TMZ.

The school actually used the phrase on X on Thursday when Belichick arrived at the facility for his press conference.

Proscia told TMZ that he would allow the school or Belichick to have the trademark or license apparel under it, but he will most definitely be using it for merchandise himself.

Chiefs rookie Xavier Worthy calls it ‘dream come true’ having Patrick Mahomes as his quarterback

0

Every rookie entering the NFL wishes to make an immediate impact on their team, especially first-round picks who carry loads of expectation when they hear their names called by Commissioner Roger Goodell on Draft night.

After breaking the 40-yard dash record at the NFL Scouting Combine, Xavier Worthy raised his draft stock, entering that zone of being a potential first-round pick.

All offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs were among teams looking for another playmaker to work with Patrick Mahomes on offense. With the 28th overall pick in hand, Worthy was still available, and they wasted no time adding his speed to the roster.

While being over the moon that he was selected in the first round, Worthy quickly realized he had a two-time MVP, three-time Super Bowl champion and six-time Pro Bowl quarterback that would be throwing him the football.

One can guess how he feels about that after 13 games and a 12-1 record.

“It’s kinda like a dream come true,” Worthy told Fox News Digital ahead of Week 15.

CHIEFS ROOKIE XAVIER WORTHY SAYS TEAM THRIVES PLAYING IN VILLAIN ROLE: ‘EVERYBODY JUST WANTS US TO LOSE’

Worthy understood there was no time to geek out over Mahomes being his new signal caller. It was time to get to work, and he quickly realized that all the winning that comes with being a Chief is business at the end of the day.

“You see why they win when you’re here,” Worthy explained. “They work hard, they go about their business the right way. They have the slogan called ‘The Formula’ – I feel like Coach Reid has hit [on] that in an interview. They really go about that every day, and I feel like it says a lot about the program.”

Of course, Worthy was not guaranteed to slot right in and get working with Mahomes immediately. First, he had to learn the playbook and then develop chemistry with his new quarterback on the practice field and in games.

Well, his first touch of his career, Worthy took an end-around flip from Mahomes to the house for a 21-yard rushing touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens.

Since then, Worthy has totaled 38 receptions on 67 targets for 448 yards with four touchdowns through the air, as well as 54 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

He feels the trust a quarterback needs in his receiver is there, leading to some pretty good first-year numbers.

“Pat, he’s more of a guy that’s like, if you show you can go out there and do it, and he trusts you, and you earn his trust, he’s going to trust you throughout the season,” Worthy said about Mahomes. “I feel like I’ve earned his trust, and I feel like we’ve got something good rolling.”

A prime example of that came in the latest close-game victory for the Chiefs, which required Mahomes to orchestrate another game-winning drive.

On fourth-and-6 with the game on the line, Mahomes was scrambling around the pocket as the Los Angeles Chargers’ pass rush was barreling through his offensive line, looking for a receiver to give him a chance to extend the drive.

Mahomes could have looked to Travis Kelce, DeAndre Hopkins or other veteran options if he wished. However, knowing where Worthy was going to be, he released the ball just as he turned around to look at his quarterback. Worthy ran back to the ball, secured it and kept the team’s chances of winning alive.

Job well done, even if there was some pain involved.

“I actually dislocated my finger on that same play. I popped it back in right after that – you can see it in the video,” Worthy said. “But, it’s huge to be able to have that trust from my quarterback in the NFL. I feel like everybody talks about being that guy in the NFL, so just to be able to build that trust and stack days with your quarterback is huge.”

The stacked wins have resulted in what every rookie wants: playoff football.

Worthy gets that as the Chiefs secured the AFC West title for the ninth straight season after beating the Chargers, and the rookie is excited to continue developing that relationship with Mahomes to hopefully help their case for a third straight Super Bowl victory.

IMPACTING YOUTH IN KC WITH DICKS

While Worthy has the pleasure of gracing a field with Mahomes, Kelce and so many other Chiefs legends, he also gets to impact the Kansas City community just like them, too.

“It was fun,” he said of the experience. “It was always something I wanted to do just to give back to the community where I’m at, and it was just fun to see the reactions on the kids’ faces. It brightened my day.”

Can an electric delivery truck defy the worst that winter has to offer?

Harbinger, a leading medium-duty electric vehicle (EV) company, has recently demonstrated that it can.

The company has released a video showcasing its EV delivery truck handling icy roads with impressive agility and stability during winter testing in New Zealand.

Innovative design for superior handling

Harbinger’s EV delivery truck features a unique chassis design that places the heavy batteries within the frame, resulting in a much lower center of gravity compared to traditional medium-duty trucks. This innovative layout allows for powerful torque and superior handling, even for vehicles exceeding 13 feet in length. The result is a truck that handles more like a passenger car, even in challenging winter conditions.

YOU WON’T BELIEVE HOW FAR VOLVO’S NEW ELECTRIC SEMI-TRUCK GOES ON A SINGLE CHARGE

Rigorous winter testing

The winter testing program in New Zealand focused on several key aspects:

Braking systems: Harbinger thoroughly tested the truck’s overall braking system, including traction control, stability control, ABS and regenerative braking.

winter EV delivery 3

The uphill launch: This tested the ability of the vehicle to climb up to a 25% grade.

EV winter delivery 5

EV delivery truck being tested in winter conditions (Harbinger)

Automated hill hold: This feature prevents a vehicle from rolling backward (or forward) when it is stopped on an incline, and Harbinger tested it in low-traction conditions with ice and snow. This feature is common in passenger cars but newly introduced in medium-duty trucks by Harbinger.

Edge cases: About 80% of the tests conducted were designed around 5% of use cases, ensuring the vehicle can handle even the most extreme situations.

TESLA SEMI’S IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE ON ICE MARKS ANOTHER MAJOR TRIUMPH

Key elements of winter testing

According to John Harris, co-founder and CEO of Harbinger, winter testing is critical for vehicle development, especially for EVs. It ensures that vehicles perform reliably on low-traction surfaces such as ice and snow. The focus is not only on typical cold weather driving conditions but also on less common yet important higher-risk scenarios. This is particularly crucial for EVs due to their significant torque output, which can lead to loss of control if not managed correctly on slippery surfaces. Systems like regenerative braking also need optimization for extreme conditions.

KURT’S PICK FOR REMOVING YOUR PERSONAL DATA FROM THE INTERNET

Specific tests for driver safety

Several tests can only be conducted in actual winter weather to stress test for optimal driver safety.

Low-adhesion surface control: Ensuring the vehicle remains maneuverable and stable on snow and ice.

Traction and stability testing: Validating traction control and stability systems under sudden accelerations, braking and cornering.

Regenerative braking on slippery surfaces: Testing how regenerative braking interacts with low-traction conditions to prevent skidding.

These tests help ensure that vehicles can safely handle extreme weather situations, such as when drivers stop steering or accelerating upon hitting a slippery patch of black ice.

WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)?

winter EV delivery 6

EV delivery truck being tested in icy conditions (Harbinger)

Battery performance in winter conditions

According to Harbinger, all battery-powered vehicles face challenges in cold weather due to two main factors: reduced battery performance and increased energy consumption for cabin heating. At low temperatures, the chemical reactions within the battery slow down, leading to decreased efficiency and power output. Additionally, electric vehicles require energy to heat the cabin, which further reduces driving range. Harbinger addresses these concerns by utilizing a multi-zone heat pump that efficiently provides heating for both the battery and cabin, thereby minimizing the negative effects of cold weather on performance.

Charging in cold temperatures

Charging an electric vehicle in cold weather is generally not problematic. Harbinger’s delivery trucks can be charged without issues, even in low temperatures, ensuring that drivers can maintain operations without interruption. While it’s important to be aware that charging times may be longer if the battery is colder, Harbinger conditions its batteries to the optimal temperature for charging, even when it’s cold outside, to mitigate this inconvenience.

Accelerated development through year-round testing

Harbinger conducts winter testing in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres, allowing for year-round progress and faster technology development. This strategy helps bring Harbinger’s vehicles to market faster, meeting the growing demand for innovative commercial EV solutions.

TESLA’S ELECTRIC SEMI-TRUCK TAKES ON A DIESEL BIG RIG

Versatile electric vehicle platform

Harbinger has developed a versatile lineup of medium-duty electric vehicles, including:

  • Walk-in vans
  • Box trucks
  • Recreational vehicles
  • Emergency response vehicles
  • Delivery vans

This versatility positions Harbinger as a crucial player in transforming the medium-duty vehicle market, which has long needed modernization and innovation.

Rams outlast 49ers with zero touchdowns scored in pivotal NFC West matchup

0

Not a single touchdown was scored, but the Los Angeles Rams picked up a crucial NFC West victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night, 12-6.

The Rams moved to 8-6, while the 49ers fell to 6-8.

Both quarterbacks, Matthew Stafford for the Rams and Brock Purdy of the 49ers, had fantastic Week 14 performances, leading many to believe that this game would be an offensive onslaught.

Instead, with some first-half rain not helping matters, both offenses were out of sync, and big defensive plays were being made to stymie some of the game’s best weapons with the ball in their hands.

The first half only saw six total points put on the board, with the 49ers’ Jake Moody nailing a 53-yard field goal on the team’s second offensive possession, and Josh Karty finally getting the Rams on the board with 1:05 left in the half to make it a 3-3 game.

All the other drives ended in punts – 11 to be exact – as the Levi’s Stadium crowd began to murmur about the lack of scoring.

CAN PLAYMAKING WR PUKA NACUA KEEP THE RAMS IN THE PLAYOFF RACE?

When the second half began, back-to-back field goals made it 6-6, though the Rams were able to be the first team in the red zone with the ball as far as the 49ers’ four-yard line. But nonetheless, no one found pay dirt.

The Rams’ were able to get their first lead of the game after forcing a three-and-out, and Puka Nacua, who had two scores and over 170 yards last game, broke out for a 51-yard catch to immediately get back in 49ers’ territory.

Brock Purdy throws

However, Los Angeles was unable to convert from two yards out for a first down, and Karty came on again to make his third field goal of the game.

Purdy and the 49ers’ offense were dying to respond, and the signal caller took a shot deep downfield to Jauan Jennings, another receiver who scored twice in Week 14. However, veteran Darious Williams was the recipient of the pass for an interception.

With head coach Kyle Shanahan not believing his eyes about how his offense was playing, Stafford and head coach Sean McVay were looking to be methodical to churn the clock and hoped they could close out the game.

That is exactly what happened, as Stafford dissected a great 49ers defense, picking up key first downs in the pass game, while Kyren Williams chewed up yardage as well.

Karty nailed his fourth field goal with just 20 seconds left to force the 49ers to score a touchdown for the win. With not enough time left to make that happen, the Rams moved themselves into great playoff chances, while the 49ers’ hopes got even slimmer than they already were.

Looking at the box score, it was not too pretty as Stafford went 16-for-27 for 160 yards, but Nacua accounted for 97 of those on seven receptions. A shocker, though, was Cooper Kupp not catching a single pass on three targets.

Williams also tallied 108 yards on the ground on 29 carries to lead the way on those scoring drives.

For the 49ers, Purdy was 14-for-31 for 142 yards with his interception, and George Kittle was his top receiver, securing four catches for 61 yards.

It is also worth noting that Deebo Samuel Sr., who posted that he wants to get the ball more after not producing his usual amount this season, had a shaky performance in this one. He finished with just three catches for 16 yards and three yards on two carries.

Also, perhaps the game’s only touchdown would’ve come when Purdy hit Samuel right in between the numbers on a slant route with tons of open field to work with in Rams territory. However, Samuel dropped it and boos showered the field along with the rain, as 49ers fans knew what was said by their star entering this matchup.

Kellyanne Conway calls out ‘the always-wrong Never Trumpers:’ ‘You have stage 5 Trump Derangement Syndrome’

0

Fox News contributor Kellyanne Conway shredded a Never Trump activist and argued that movement helped cost Democratsthe election.

During the New York Times’ DealBook Summit, a large panel of political figures offered their autopsies of why the Harris campaign failed and how the Trump campaign successfully tapped into changes reshaping American culture in 2024.

“The Democratic Party right now, every day they wake up it’s still January 6, 2021, on the calendar,” Conway said. “You’re out of touch with the public. This election was a rejection of wokeness, and people – every state went more red except Nebraska and Washington state. That is a sweep. That is a mandate. That is President Trump coming into office and the American people saying, ‘Please make my life safer, more secure, more affordable, please get us out of these foreign engagements.’”

But the anti-Trump Republicans, she said, were on another trajectory.

“I think the always-wrong Never Trumpers, who had unlimited money, cost the party, cost the Democratic Party, which they say they’re not even a member, another presidential election,” she said.

Sarah Longwell, publisher of Never Trump news outlet The Bulwark and host of “The Focus Group” podcast, began to respond and got into a back and forth with Conway.

“You have stage 5 Trump Derangement Syndrome,” Conway charged.

Longwell replied, “I think you guys are bad people who are bad – yes – who are bad for the country – yes – who attacked the Constitution,” while Conway continued talking and asking, “Who’s ‘you guys’? The country?”

“Stop, please, stop,” host Maggie Haberman pleaded as the women talked over each other.

Longwell did acknowledge some of the Democrat Party’s flaws in this election, ranging from arguing that President Biden should not have run for reelection to how “Democrats have no answer, no plan on immigration, and voters really care about it.”

Nonetheless, she went on to argue that Republicans won partly because they “lie to people all the time, Donald Trump is a professional liar, and as a result they are better at working the media channels.”

“So the people are stupid, you’re sitting here saying the American people are stupid?” Conway asked.

“No, I’m saying you guys are better at talking-,” Longwell started to respond as Conway again asked what she meant by “you guys.”

“The Trump campaign,” Longwell responded and the pair continued.

A Florida woman is behind bars after she allegedly threatened a Blue Cross Blue Shield agent during a phone call about a recently denied insurance claim.

Polk County jail records show Briana Boston, 42, was charged with threats to conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism after she was recorded saying, “Delay, deny, depose. You people are next,” FOX 13 Tampa Bay reported.

Boston was upset about medical claims that had been denied recently and that she used the recent murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson as an attempt to threaten the company, the Lakeland Police Department told the outlet.

She also told police she does not own firearms and is not dangerous.

An arrest affidavit seen by FOX 13 revealed that Boston also said healthcare companies “deserved karma from the world because they are evil” and play games.

In the wake of Thompson’s slaying, UnitedHealthcare removed the pictures and names of its executives from its website.

Fears of copycat actors have led other insurance companies, including some Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, and pharmacies to do the same.
