Senior officials downplay concerns about drone sightings: ‘Slight overreaction’

0

U.S. national security officials appeared to dispel concerns about the mysterious drones flying over the Northeast in a recent call with reporters, one going as far as describing nationwide uneasiness as “a slight overreaction.”

The call, attended by Fox News Digital Saturday, was hosted by senior Biden administration officials, including representatives from the FBI, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the National Security Council (NSC), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Defense (DOD).

The senior officials remained tight-lipped about the origins of the drones, which are still being investigated. The mysterious aircraft were first spotted flying above northern New Jersey in mid-November and have been repeatedly seen by thousands of residents over the past few weeks.

During the call with reporters, an FBI official said his agency has received 5,000 tips since the first mysterious drone was seen flying above the Garden State in November. Of those 5,000 tips, fewer than 100 warranted further investigation, the official said.

MORE THAN 20 DAYS INTO PHENOMENON, PENTAGON STILL HAS NO ANSWERS ABOUT ORIGINS OF MYSTERIOUS NJ DRONES

The FBI official added that investigators have found no evidence of large-scale unmanned drone activity despite the recent uptick in drone activity in recent weeks.

“We’re doing our best to find the origin of that specific … those drone activities,” the official said. “But I think there has been a slight overreaction.”

Echoing comments from the FBI representative, a DHS official noted that, while his agency is not dismissing all tips about the drones as non-credible, “the amount of actual drone activity is likely less than what’s being reported.”

A DOD official added that the agency has gathered “no intelligence or observations that would indicate that [the drones] were aligned with a foreign actor or that they had malicious intent.”

“But, you know, just to simply tell you, we don’t know,” the representative said. “We have not been able to locate or identify the operators or the points of origin.”

The Pentagon official added that there are limitations in terms of investigating the drones’ sources.

“We’re also significantly restricted, and rightfully so, in fact, prohibited from intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance here in the homeland,” the spokesperson noted. “So, we don’t have the same capabilities and the same methods that we would employ in other locations outside of the homeland to determine points of origin.”

“Here, on the military side, we are just as frustrated with, you know, with the irresponsible nature of this activity,” the official conceded.

An NSC official echoed the DOD representative’s sentiment, arguing there is no evidence foreign adversaries are involved with the drones, and there is no proof of any threat to public safety.

“Obviously, we are taking this incredibly seriously at this point,” the NSC official said. “We have not identified any basis for believing that …. there’s any criminal activity involved, that there’s any national security threat, that there’s any particular public safety threat or that there’s a malicious foreign actor involved in these drones.”

Following their arrival at 10:06 p.m., the BHPD officers investigated the incident and the report of assault with a deadly weapon was determined to be “unfounded.”

However, the press release stated that the “incident involved a physical altercation between parties.” Following a preliminary investigation, the authorities documented the battery in a report and no arrests were made. BHPD’s investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Mr. Chow for comment.

Foxx was also asked about his Netflix comedy special, “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was.” In the special released on Tuesday, the comedian shared new details about his 2023 health crisis.

“What a blessed time to be on stage,” he said. “It’s amazing, man, to have gone through something so crazy, but to get back on, make some chuckles and let other people know what’s up, was amazing.”

The “Blame It” singer said legendary comedians George Carlin and Richard Pryor inspired him to speak about the ordeal in the special.

In April 2023, Foxx was hospitalized in a coma for weeks after suffering from a mystery illness. During his Netflix special, Foxx emotionally broke down in tears several times throughout the special as he explained to fans what led to his coma.

“I was fighting for my life,” Foxx . “April 11, I was having a bad headache and I asked my boy for an aspirin… before I could get the aspirin… I went out. I don’t remember 20 days.”

Foxx revealed that doctors told his family he had a “brain bleed that’s led to a stroke” at the time of his hospitalization.

“If I don’t go in his head right now, we’re going to lose him,” the doctor at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia declared.

After Foxx’s surgery, his doctor said to his sister Deidra Dixon, “We didn’t find where it was coming from, but he is having a stroke. He may be able to make a full recovery, but it’s going to be the worst year of his life.”

Foxx continued, “I was so dizzy from the stroke… 20 days I don’t remember. On May 4, I woke up. When I woke up, I found myself in a wheelchair. I couldn’t walk.”

“The “Django Unchained” actor thought his stroke was a “prank” at the time. He refused to see a therapist during his recovery until one healthcare worker demanded Foxx to snap out of it, since he was convinced, “Jamie Foxx don’t get strokes.”

“Listen, you gotta knock this s–t off, this whole Jamie Foxx s–t, stop this arrogant bulls–t, that stroke doesn’t give a f— about who you are,” the therapist told him.

Tim Walz thought his lack of wealth was ‘real flex’ against Trump: ‘How … did we lose to a billionaire?

0

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz marveled in a post-election interview that middle-class Americans struggling with economic issues chose billionaire Donald Trump over him and Vice President Kamala Harris, a team he billed as a more middle-class ticket by comparison.

Walz, Harris’ running mate, sat down for an interview with Minnesota Public Radio on Thursday where he weighed in on what he thought went wrong during the Democratic presidential campaign. He concluded there must have been a disconnect with the Harris campaign’s messaging to middle-class voters if they went on to vote for a rich candidate like Trump.

“I thought it was a real flex when the Wall Street Journal pointed out that I might have been the least wealthy person to ever run for vice president,” Walz told MPR News.

HARRIS NEVER LED TRUMP, INTERNAL POLLS SHOWED — BUT DNC OFFICIALS WERE KEPT IN THE DARK

“How in the world did we lose to a billionaire or a venture capitalist, when we were making the case of a country attorney and a high school teacher?” he asked later in the interview, contrasting his ticket with Trump’s.

Walz made the point that he thought his more humble economic status should have appealed to voters, and seemed puzzled that wasn’t the case.

“And I thought that would be something people say, ‘Well, this guy knows where we’re coming from. He’s had to pay his bills and still does,'” he said, referring to himself.

Earlier in the discussion, Walz stated, “And this is the one that keeps me up at night, is I focused my whole career in focusing on the middle class… And it seemed like a lot of good ideas were coming from the Democrats.”

KAMALA HARRIS’ BUNGLED ANSWER ON ‘THE VIEW’ ABOUT BIDEN SEEN AS TURNING POINT FOR CAMPAIGN

“I still believe that,” he continued, “but apparently in this election, not the majority of Americans did. They chose to vote with a billionaire, who’s talked about not paying overtime, who has a long history of not paying his workers, someone who wants to take away the ACA.”

Seeing this, Walz concluded that this happened because his party did not communicate their middle-class appeal well enough.

“So, I come back to the conclusion, is we did not do a good enough job – we as a Democratic Party and we as a ticket – did not do a good enough job of showing them that we understand where they’re coming from,” the governor said.

He added, “And I feel like one of my roles is – going forward here is – figuring out a way to make the case to the public, the American public, is that the Democratic Party really is focused on the things they care about.”

In an interview with local Minnesota outlet KSTP-TV last week, the governor admitted he was surprised that his ticket lost the 2024 election.

“It felt like at the rallies, at the things I was going to, the shops I was going in, that the momentum was going our way, and it obviously wasn’t at the end,” Walz said. “So yeah, I was a little surprised. I thought we had a positive message and I thought the country was ready for that.”

Navy pulls off upset over Army with Trump, star-studded group in attendance

0

History repeated itself in the annual Army-Navy clash.

The Midshipmen are now 63-55-7 all time against the Black Knights with their 31-13 victory Saturday in Landover, Md.

Navy got out to a 14-0 lead, scoring a touchdown on its first drive, then turning an interception into seven more points. Army cut its deficit in half before going into the locker room. A field goal to begin the second half made it a four-point game.

Navy, though, delivered a big blow with a 52-yard touchdown catch and run by running back Eli Heidenreich to regain a 21-10 lead late in the third. After the Black Knights settled for a field goal, they forced a Navy punt — or so they thought.

The Midshipmen, on fourth and 5 from their own side of the field, ran a fake punt, and nose tackle Landon Robinson ran 29 yards for a first down to keep the drive alive. Four plays later, Blake Horvath rushed in for the score, and it was a 28-13 lead for Navy.

Hoping for a miracle, Army quarterback Bryson Daily threw a wild pass on the run that was intercepted, and the Midshipmen iced the game with a field goal to go up three possessions with just under four minutes to go. After another pick and a first down, Navy ran out the clock.

With the victory, Navy earned the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy, having also beaten Air Force earlier this year.

The teams participated in the “Honoring the Fallen” tradition by singing each other’s alma mater.

ARMY-NAVY GAME IS ‘COLLEGE FOOTBALL AT ITS PUREST FORM’ AMID NIL ERA, SPONSOR’S CEO SAYS

President-elect Trump took in the game from a luxury suite, marking his first appearance at the contest since 2020. He was at the game five straight years, beginning in 2016, roughly a month after winning that year’s election. Trump was joined by a star-studded cast that included JD Vance, Elon Musk, Daniel Penny, Mike Johnson, Tulsi Gabbard and Pete Hegseth.

Army had won six of the previous eight meetings. The Midshipmen are 9-3 on the season, while Army fell to 11-2.

Both teams now focus on their respective bowl games. Navy will face Oklahoma in the Armed Forces Bowl, and Army awaits its Independence Bowl opponent after Marshall dropped out due to nearly 30 players entering the transfer portal.

It was a rare offensive showing on the field, at least for one side, as the under had hit in 18 of the previous 19 seasons. The total, though, was hovering around the 39.5 mark, so over bettors are celebrating.

Horvath finished with 204 yards on 25 carries, two of them resulting in scores, while throwing another pair of touchdowns despite just nine passing attempts.

Next year’s edition, the 126th, will be played in Baltimore before heading to East Rutherford, New Jersey, in 2026.

New Jersey Republican calls out Biden administration over response to drones

0

Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., called out the Biden administration during a press conference Saturday about the recent drone sightings that have stumped U.S. officials.

The unidentified drone sightings, which have been observed flying above U.S. military installations and New Jersey homes since mid-November, have caused concern in the Garden State.

The aircraft have also been spotted in Connecticut. On Thursday, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., called for the drones to be “shot down” if necessary.

On Saturday, U.S. officials held a phone conference with reporters and appeared to downplay concerns about the drones, saying there was no evidence linking the aircraft to foreign adversaries.

Speaking from Seaside Heights, New Jersey, Smith said he asked DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas why the drones’ origins are still unknown.

“I asked Secretary Mayorkas at a briefing, a Zoom briefing, why we can’t follow them, find out where they’re going,” the Republican told reporters. “They’re coming from somewhere. … You can’t seem to do that.

“Why can’t we follow them and find what their origin is? Many of them seem to be coming from the ocean.”

The representative also mentioned that he contacted Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin to ask the U.S. military to authorize the use of force against the unusual drones.

“I’ve written Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin asking the Pentagon to authorize the use of force to down one or more of these unmanned threats to uncover the mystery, bring them down over the ocean, over an area where there’s no population,” Smith said. “Bring them down and find out who’s doing it.”

The New Jersey politician also expressed the belief the drones may be tied to at least one foreign government.

“The elusive maneuvering of these drones, I would suggest, suggests a major military power sophistication,” the Republican said. “That begs the question whether they have been deployed to test our defense capabilities or worse, by violent dictatorships, perhaps maybe Russia or China or Iran or North Korea.

“I mean, they had the capability, and they certainly have the motive,” Smith added. “The Pentagon has said the drones are not ours.”

Daniel Penny hailed as a ‘hero’ alongside Trump and Vance in Army-Navy game suite

0

Marine veteran Daniel Penny is celebrating his recent acquittal for manslaughter inside a historic college football game suite.

Penny, who was recently found not guilty in the subway chokehold death of homeless man Jordan Neely, joined President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance in a suite at Northwest Stadium in Maryland for the 125th Army-Navy game Saturday. Trump’s suite also hosted Elon Musk, Tulsi Gabbard and House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Photos of Penny posing alongside Trump and Vance in the suite went viral during the game.

Multiple social media users responded with waves of praise for Penny, hailing the marine veteran as a hero.

Cryptocurrency influencer Tiffany Fong shared the photo, praising Penny as a hero in a post on X.

“Donald Trump [and] JD Vance know that Daniel Penny is a hero,” Fong wrote.

Conservative X influencer and podcast host Nick Sortor called for Penny to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in the post, and dozens of others agreed with him in X responses.

“Daniel Penny received a HERO’S WELCOME from President Trump and JD Vance at the Army Navy game Much deserved!” Sortor wrote. “I truly hope Trump will give Penny the Presidential Medal of Freedom.”

Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., shared the photo with a caption that said, “Common sense reigns again!”

Author Ashley St. Clair shared the photo with a caption that suggested Penny was on trial for being a White male. Penny’s chokehold of Neely, who was Black, ignited a national conversation about race.

“The days of vitriol and persecution against white men simply for being white men are over,” St. Clair wrote.

During Penny’s trial, prosecutors routinely referred to the marine veteran as “the White man.”

Penny was charged with manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide for the subway chokehold death of Neely, a 30-year-old homeless man with schizophrenia who barged onto the train shouting death threats May 1, 2023.

Witnesses testified Neely’s threats scared them more than a typical subway outburst would, and they were thankful for Penny’s intervention.

Neely had a lengthy criminal record, an active arrest warrant, a history of psychosis and was high on K2, a synthetic form of marijuana that pathologists described as a stimulant.

When jurors declared they had found Penny not guilty of criminally negligent homicide Dec. 9, his side of the courtroom in New York City erupted with cheers. At the same time, the verdict prompted an angry response from Neely’s side, including his father, Andre Zachary, who was escorted out of the courthouse along with several Black Lives Matter leaders.

Penny thanked the jurors for their verdict in an interview with Fox News Wednesday.

“I’d like to give them a hug. I’d like to thank them. Yeah, definitely. It takes a lot of courage, especially in this climate in New York City, to stick up for me,” he told “The Five” co-host Judge Jeanine Pirro in a preview Wednesday during an exclusive interview airing on Fox Nation.

The marine veteran said if he faced the same situation on the subway with someone making threats and acting erratically, he would take action again.

“I would not be able to live with myself if I didn’t do anything in that situation and someone got hurt,” he said. “I would feel guilty for the rest of my life.”

Vance was one of the first politicians to express support for Penny in the aftermath of the verdict and said he extended the initial invitation to Penny for the suite Saturday.

“Daniel’s a good guy, and New York’s mob district attorney tried to ruin his life for having a backbone,” Vance wrote on X Friday. “I’m grateful he accepted my invitation and hope he’s able to have fun and appreciate how much his fellow citizens admire his courage.”

Penny still faces a lawsuit from Zachery, who accuses the 26-year-old of causing his son’s death through “negligence, carelessness and recklessness.” Zachery is seeking unspecified damages for assault and battery, according to a copy of the complaint.

Donald Trump speaks out after Duke lacrosse accuser admits to making false allegations, years later

0

President-elect Donald Trump addressed the recent confession by former stripper and current murder convict, Crystal Mangum, who admitted this week to lying about being raped by three Duke lacrosse players in 2006.

Trump wrote a message on Truth Social early Saturday morning, lambasting Mangum for “destroying the lives” of the innocent men she accused.

“Woman admits to totally fabricating accusations in the horrible Duke Lacrosse Case. She destroyed the lives of these young men,” Trump wrote.

Mangum’s confession came on Thursday during an interview from her jail cell with the independent media outlet “Let’s Talk With Kat.”

“I testified falsely against them by saying that they raped me when they didn’t, and that was wrong, and I betrayed the trust of a lot of other people who believed in me,” Mangum said. “[I] made up a story that wasn’t true, because I wanted validation from people and not from God.”

The former Duke players, David Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann, were declared innocent in 2007. The state attorney general’s office concluded there was no credible evidence that an attack had ever occurred, and its investigation found no DNA, witnesses or other evidence to confirm Mangum’s story.

However, the player’s lives were severely affected, according to one of their lawyers.

One of the former players’ attorneys, Jim Cooney, told The Associated Press that Mangum’s allegations caused an “enormous tornado of destruction” for countless people involved, including the accused men, and that they were wrongfully vilified nationally as “racially motivated rapists.”

CRYSTAL GAIL MANGUM: PROFILE OF THE DUKE RAPE ACCUSER

Other individuals who helped perpetuate the false allegations include Durham County district attorney Mike Nifong, who was the lead prosecutor in the case, and former Duke University president Richard Brodhead, who punished the team over the false allegations and canceled the rest of the 2006 season.

Nifong was later disbarred, and Brodhead apologized for the university’s “failure to reach out” in a “time of extraordinary peril.” Brodhead was then one of 30 individuals named as defendants in a lawsuit filed in 2007 by the players and stepped down in 2017.

Mangum can not be prosecuted for perjury now, because the statute of limitations on perjury charges in North Carolina only lasts around two years.

Mangum was later indicted on a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of larceny in March 2011. A year before that, she was convicted on misdemeanor charges after setting a fire that nearly torched her home with her three children inside. In a videotaped police interrogation, she told officers she had gotten into a confrontation with her boyfriend at the time, not Daye, and burned his clothes, smashed his car windshield and threatened to stab him.

Bird flu causes deaths of cats and zoo animals as virus continues to spread

0

Just days after the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued a new order that all raw (unpasteurized) milk must be tested for bird flu, reports have emerged of animals dying of the virus.

In Los Angeles County, the public health department is investigating the deaths of two cats that reportedly consumed recalled raw milk.

After drinking the milk, the felines displayed symptoms that included lack of appetite, fever and neurologic issues, according to a press release from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

BIRD FLU SURGES IN SEVERAL US STATES WITH REPORTS OF NEW OUTBREAKS: ‘GETTING WORSE’

“The infected cats died after severe worsening of their illness, and subsequently tested positive for influenza A, a rare result in cats,” the release stated.

Reports have emerged of animals dying of bird flu in various parts of the U.S. (not pictured). The USDA recently issued a new order that all raw (unpasteurized) milk must be tested for the virus. (iStock)

Health officials are considering these “suspected H5 bird flu cases” and confirmatory testing is underway.

Cats can contract bird flu by consuming infected birds or other animals or drinking raw milk from infected cows, according to health officials.

Although it is possible for cats to transmit influenza strains to humans, there have been no reports of it happening with the current H5 bird flu outbreak.

FLU VACCINATION RATES ‘CONCERNINGLY’ LOW AMONG US KIDS, HEALTH OFFICIALS WARN

“The risk of H5 bird flu remains low in Los Angeles County, but this suspected case of the virus in a pet cat that consumed raw milk is a reminder that consuming raw dairy products can lead to severe illness in cats,” said Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, in the release.

“To avoid the spread of disease, including H5 bird flu, we strongly encourage residents and their pets to avoid raw dairy and undercooked meat products, limit contact with sick or dead animals, report sick or dead birds, and keep pets or poultry away from wild animals and birds.”

Meanwhile, at the Wildlife World Zoo in Maricopa County, Arizona, a few resident animals have reportedly died after becoming infected with bird flu.

Local reports stated that a cheetah, a mountain lion, a swamphen, an Indian goose and a kookaburra died as a result of bird flu, according to a zoo official.

A white tiger also was confirmed to be infected but “appeared to be responding to treatment,” per the report.

DEADLY VIRUS SAMPLES WENT MISSING FROM LAB IN ‘MAJOR BIOSECURITY BREACH,’ SAY AUTHORITIES

“Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) is working closely with state and federal partners to respond to detection of avian influenza in a small number of animals that are part of a zoo collection in Litchfield Park,” health officials stated in a press release this week.

“Overall risk to the public and zoo visitors remains low.”

A zoo representative provided an update to Fox News Digital on Friday.

Sam Scarpino, PhD, director of AI and life sciences at Northeastern University in Boston, said the animal deaths are “continued signs” that the situation with H5N1 in the U.S. is “getting worse, not better.”

“The reported infections in humans and now domestic cats due to their consumption of raw milk also highlights how dangerous it is for people to consume raw milk,” he told Fox News Digital.

“It’s important that we take steps to better control the transmission of H5N1 in dairy cows and better understand how it’s spreading between states in the U.S.”

“Studies indicate that even a single mutation could significantly enhance its infectivity in humans.”

Dr. Jacob Glanville, CEO of Centivax, a San Francisco biotechnology company, warned that H5N1 has been found in “relatively high concentrations” in raw milk.

“Without pasteurizing it, the virus remains viable in the milk and could potentially infect someone who drinks it,” he told Fox News Digital.

“It’s not that common of an occurrence, as we’ve not seen a rash of H5N1 infections from raw milk drinkers, but the virus is mutating and is therefore a potential risk.”

Although most cows have only had mild infection, Glanville noted that the strain has been “highly virulent” in birds, ferrets and primates.

Dairy farm milk

“The reported infections in humans and now domestic cats due to their consumption of raw milk also highlights how dangerous it is for people to consume raw milk,” an expert told Fox News Digital.  (iStock)

“Studies indicate that even a single mutation could significantly enhance its infectivity in humans,” he said.

“Given the virus’ ability to persist in milk and infect mucosal membranes, along with the potential for a pandemic, avoiding raw milk is strongly recommended,” Glanville added.

The expert also emphasized that it’s critical to only drink pasteurized milk to prevent the spread of harmful pathogens commonly found in raw milk.
