Rep Gimenez warns China is ‘greatest threat’ to US, Trump admin will ‘project strength’ to CCP

0

EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Carlos Gimenez, a member of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), said China is the “greatest threat” to the United States and that President-elect Donald Trump will bring “peace through strength, not peace through appeasement.”

Gimenez, R-Fla., told Fox News Digital the CCP is the “adversary we have to watch, both militarily and economically.”

“China is making great strides around the world,” Gimenez said, pointing to its capacity in production, specifically with defense materials and weapons. “It surpasses that of the United States’ and we have seen that we are lacking.”

Gimenez said the Russian-Ukraine war has “demonstrated to us that our defense capacity has been degraded over the decades.”

“It shows we could run out of munitions fairly quickly if we had a prolonged fight with China,” he said, warning that China also “has the ability to produce many more ships than we do.”

Gimenez said the U.S. is “trying to do catch-up.”

“We have to update how we do things at the Pentagon, we have to be more nimble, we have to get the private sector involved, and we have to eliminate bureaucracy that has hampered our ability to protect ourselves,” he said.

But as for the approach to the China threat, Gimenez blasted the Biden administration, specifically President Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

“I think China, with Biden and Blinken, thought they could do just about anything they wanted or thought they could fool them,” he said. “The Biden administration was always exhibiting weakness and trying to appease our enemies, whereas Trump knows exactly who our friends are, who our enemies are and is going to put the security of America first.”

Gimenez added, “He understands that the security of America lies in peace through strength, not peace through appeasement.”

As for confronting the threat in the coming months, Gimenez pointed to the importance of the U.S. being energy independent.

Gimenez said he wants to “make America the energy spigot of the world, where the world goes to get energy is America.”

“It would help our financial situation, our balance sheet, and give us the ability to help our friends and weaken our enemies,” he said.

“We could use our energy dominance as an economic weapon against our enemies, helping our friends and hurting our enemies,” he continued. “We can substitute Iranian and Venezuelan oil with American oil, Russian oil with American oil, and then starve those countries which are allied with China of their greatest source of revenue and then impede their ability to help China.”

“If China finds itself isolated in the world, I think that’s the best way we can contain this threat,” he said. “But we have to project strength and the willingness to confront aggression by the CCP.”

As for the House Select Committee on the CCP, he said they have “much more work to do.”

“The China threat is increasing,” he said, noting that the committee is bipartisan in its nature and that members on both sides of the aisle have “bought into that China is the threat and that China will be the threat.”

“It’s not climate change, it’s China,” he said. “And we have to confront that threat or live in a world that is dominated by the Chinese Communist Party.”

“And Trump is going to project strength and back those words with action.”

High school flag football championships return to Mercedes-Benz Stadium

0

The state is preparing for the Georgia High School Football Championships at Mercedes-Benz Stadium Dec. 16 to 18, 2024.

GPB’s Pamela Kirkland spoke with Jon Nelson of GPB Sports about what to expect from the growing sport of flag football.

TRANSCRIPT

Pamela Kirkland: Joining me now is the man who’s been all over every game this season. GPB sports broadcaster Jon Nelson. Jon, thanks for joining me.

Jon Nelson: You know, I go from here to Mercedes-Benz for the next three days, so it’s going to be a fun ride, I’ll tell you that.

Pamela Kirkland: We know where your home is going to be. So, John, Southeast Bullock High School’s got a great story. McEachern High School has been ranked number one all season. But give us the lowdown. What are the matchups that you’re watching this week?

Jon Nelson: I love all of my children equally. Come on, now. I’m going to be watching all of them. Those four and the all the championship games that are tackle football. Hannah Goodin and the cast the thousands, the GPB Army, as Matt Stewart calls us, we’re going to be there the whole time. I’ve just been really enthused about how the sport has continued to grow. This is the fourth season, and it’s the first year that we have four separate divisions, four championship games. So you get to see just in championship games alone how the sport has grown here in the state of Georgia.

Pamela Kirkland: Yes. And I want to talk about the talent, too, because the level of skill on display in these games has just been so impressive. What do you think is behind this rise in competition and just the talent that we’ve seen across the board?

Jon Nelson: I you know, the the attention to detail and when you have all of these these coaching staffs and these programs where you have multi-sport athletes that are diving into flag football and you’re now to the point where you are getting college scholarships to play flag football, there have been championships in the past where we’ve broadcast a game and a student athlete literally will get a college scholarship offer to play flag immediately on the field after the game is over. So the dedication to craft the attention to detail and just making sure that it is treated as serious as all of the other sports that are on our respective campus. That’s what you’re seeing. And the athleticism has been on display.

Pamela Kirkland: And for those who have may not tuned in before, what makes girls flag football such an exciting sport to watch?

Jon Nelson: t literally is like, and I’m going to date myself with this reference, literally, it’s like when you have a record player and the record player could either play 33 1/3 R.P.M., 45 RPM or 78. [Flag] is like football at 78 RPMs and literally it’s action. Everybody’s eligible. You’ve got to pay attention to the rules and all these kinds of things. We’ve had exciting games that have gone to overtime in the past to decide champions. So all of these things that go into this, this stew that is the championships, we get to see it. I actually had folks on social media reach out to us at GPB Sports and let us know that this (meaning flag football) was the addiction they didn’t know they had when it came to watching sports until they started watching the championship games. And so it’s been it’s fun to see folks get addicted to watching flag football at something that they didn’t watch before. They watch it. They get hooked.

Pamela Kirkland: That’s amazing. And I know you said you love all your children equally, but I want to talk about the first matchups we’re going to see. What can people expect?

Jon Nelson: Southeast Bullock In Columbus, Southeast Bullock. They had not lost in program history. Brooklyn, Georgia was one of the the foci, I think, is the proper focuses, foci. One of the the central points of flag football in the state of Georgia. Southeast Bullock had never lost a game in program history until the playoffs this year. 77 wins in a row. They’re going to be playing Columbus and it’ll be good to see them. Greenbrier makes a return to the championships on day one. Pace Academy and Pulp. Pulp has a father and son coaching duo, and they’re nationally ranked and Pope is chasing after another title in back to back years. And then McEachern. They’ve been running roughshod over everybody, putting up a lot of points and they’re going to start day three of the championships with title game number four in Flag Division four. So you’ve got offenses, you’ve got history, you’ve got pedigrees, you’ve got a husband and wife at Southeast Bullock. You’ve got a father and son at Pope that are part of the coaching trees. And there’s a lot of great storylines.

Pamela Kirkland: I’m going to have to look up folks, because I may have just learned a new word. You can watch every game and catch Jon on GPB TV. You can also stream the games online at GPB.org or through the GPB Sports app. Jon Nelson, GPB sports broadcaster. We’ll be watching. Thank you so much for joining me.

Jon Nelson: Good to be the focus of everything going on for the championships.

Bill White nominated as ambassador to Belgium by Trump

0

Bill White (File)

President-elect Donald Trump announced Saturday that he will nominate former Buckhead cityhood leader Bill White as his ambassador to Belgium.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, White raised millions for Trump’s campaign while actively pushing for the Georgia Legislature to put a referendum on the ballot to split Buckhead into its own municipality in 2022 and 2023.

In a statement, Trump said White was a “highly respected businessman, philanthropist, author and advocate” for military and veterans, “raising over $1.5 billion for our fallen heroes.”

White, who must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate, told the AJC that he and his husband, Bryan Eure, spoke with Trump Friday and “learned how important this post is to him.”

“We look forward to working tirelessly and giving our all in support of President Trump as he implements his critically important America First policies,” White told the AJC.

In 2023, the Georgia Senate overwhelmingly rejected a Republican bill that would have paved the way for the Buckhead neighborhood to secede from the city of Atlanta.

White and backers of the secession movement blamed Gov. Brian Kemp and other Republicans of conspiring to ensure the cityhood bills would not pass in a Senate floor vote.

Trump expected to announce Stephen Miller as deputy chief of staff for policy – Boston News, Weather, Sports

0

(CNN) — President-elect Donald Trump is expected to announce in the coming days that Stephen Miller, his top immigration adviser, will serve as White House deputy chief of staff for policy, two sources familiar with the plans told CNN.

Miller, who served as a senior adviser to Trump during his first administration and has been a leading advocate for more restrictive immigration policy, is expected to take on an expanded role in the president-elect’s second term.

Miller is also a lead architect of Trump’s plans for mass deportation of undocumented immigrants. He has said that a second Trump administration would seek a tenfold increase in the number of deportations to more than one million per year.

“President-elect Trump will begin making decisions on who will serve in his second administration soon. Those decisions will be announced when they are made,” Trump spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told CNN.

Worries about mysterious drones spread to Massachusetts after reported sightings – Boston News, Weather, Sports

0

BOSTON (WHDH) – The worries surrounding recent drone sightings have moved to Massachusetts after video of a mysterious drone was captured on Cape Cod.

The local sighting comes on the heels of many sightings in New Jersey that prompted the FBI to announce it was investigating the drones and where they’re coming from. The flying lights have also been spotted over New York and Pennsylvania.

State leaders are now reacting to the sightings though federal officials are saying the drones don’t appear to pose a threat to civilians or military installations.

In a statement, Gov. Maura Healey wrote, “I’m aware of a growing number of drone sightings across Massachusetts and we’re monitoring the situation closely. @MassStatePolice is working together with local and federal partners, and they’re prepared to support federal authorities with jurisdiction over airspace. Drone operators should adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and appropriate operating procedures, ensuring the safe and responsible use of drones.”

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu also addressed the sightings, saying, “I’ve been in touch with Boston police. We have not had any reports so far but encourage everyone to reach out with any concerns they have, as always.”

The surge in sightings started in New Jersey. Officials say some cases are people confusing small planes for drones, others are people confusing stars for drones.

Local law enforcement officials say they’re passing on all the information they gather about these reported drone sightings to the FBI in Boston.

Friends, family of state trooper who died at training facility still demanding answers – Boston News, Weather, Sports

0

WORCESTER, MASS. (WHDH) – Family and friends of Trooper Enrique Delgado Garcia gathered in Worcester on Saturday to demand answers after their loved one died after suffering a health emergency while training at a state police facility in September.

It’s been three months since Delgado Garcia’s death and advocates say they’re still not any closer to getting answers about what happened on Sept. 13.

Speaking at the rally, one supporter said, “They want answers it’s been 90 days yesterday since be passed and they don’t have answers.”

Delgado Garcia passed away the day after police say he was hit repeatedly in a boxing match as he sparred with another trainee. State police and the Attorney General’s Office have since appointment former prosecutor David Meir as an independent investigator in the case.

But supporters of the family say more need to be done.

“They’re not being kept in the loop and that’s the issue that they have,” the supporter said. “They want justice the day that he died they’re family also feels like they died along with him.”

Delgado Garcia was scheduled to graduate with his class of fellow recruits this fall. He was officially sworn in as a state trooper in his final hours of life.

Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter wins Heisman Trophy as college football’s top player – Boston News, Weather, Sports

0

NEW YORK (AP) — Two-way star Travis Hunter of Colorado won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night, punctuating a tireless performance all season by a dynamic player with a unique combination of skills.

The wide receiver and lockdown cornerback dominated on both sides of the ball for coach Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes, joining late running back Rashaan Salaam in 1994 as the only players in school history to take home college football’s most prestigious individual award.

Hunter received 552 first-place votes and 2,231 points in a comfortable victory. Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty was the runner-up with 309 first-place votes and 2,017 points.

Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel came in third and Miami quarterback Cam Ward finished fourth in balloting for the 90th Heisman Trophy, presented annually since 1935 to the nation’s most outstanding player. This year’s ceremony was held at Jazz at Lincoln Center in Manhattan, where Sanders was in attendance.

It marked only the fifth time this century a quarterback didn’t win. The last time no signal-caller placed in the top two was 2015, when running backs Derrick Henry of Alabama and Christian McCaffrey ran 1-2 in voting.

Hunter also won The Associated Press player of the year award this week. He helped spark an impressive turnaround at Colorado, from 4-8 in 2023 when he missed 3 1/2 games because of injuries to 9-3 this year in Sanders’ second season. The 20th-ranked Buffaloes got their first bowl bid in four years and will face No. 17 BYU (10-2) in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 28.

Hunter has pledged to play, rather than skip the game to prepare for the NFL draft and prevent any possible injury as many top prospects do. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound junior from Suwanee, Georgia, plans to pass up his senior season in Boulder and is expected to be a top-five pick by the pros — perhaps even No. 1 overall.

Showcasing his blazing speed and explosive playmaking, Hunter rarely came off the field this year — making him an every-down throwback to generations gone by and the first full-time, true two-way star in decades.

On offense, he had 92 catches for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns, plus a rushing score. On defense, he made four interceptions, 32 tackles, broke up 11 passes and forced a critical fumble that secured an overtime victory against Baylor.

With the Buffaloes winning games and challenging for a Big 12 title, he soared from a long-shot underdog in Heisman futures last summer to a heavy betting favorite this week.

All the while, striking the Heisman pose with teammates to celebrate big plays as it became more and more clear Hunter was the man to beat.

He played 688 defensive snaps and 672 more on offense — the only Power Four conference player with 30-plus snaps on both sides of the ball, according to Colorado research.

It would seem an overly exhausting workload for any player these days, both mentally and physically, but not Hunter.

“I think I laid the ground for more people to come in and go two ways,” he said Friday. “It starts with your mindset. If you believe you can do it, then you’ll be able to do it. And also, I do a lot of treatment. I keep up with my body. I get a lot of recovery.”

Rated the country’s top recruit in the 2022 class, Hunter surprised many when he committed to play for Sanders at Jackson State, an HBCU that competes in the lower-level FCS, with the promise of playing both offense and defense.

After one season, Hunter followed Sanders to Colorado and was a consensus All-America selection as an all-purpose player last year despite sitting out three games with a lacerated liver caused by a late hit.

Following his recovery, a healthy Hunter finished strong in 2023 and then really took off this season, catching passes from Shedeur Sanders, the coach’s son, and becoming Colorado’s first Heisman Trophy finalist in 30 years.

Deion Sanders, nicknamed Prime Time during his playing days — seemingly by himself — was a two-time All-America defensive back at Florida State and finished eighth in 1988 Heisman voting.

An electrifying kick returner, who also played major league baseball by the way, Neon Deion went on to a Hall of Fame career as an NFL cornerback but mostly just dabbled on offense besides a 36-catch season with the 1996 Dallas Cowboys.

Nothing quite like Hunter, who now has a Heisman leg up on Coach Prime forever.

Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty’s Heisman Trophy acceptance speech will wind up in the same place as Kamala Harris’ presidential election victory speech.

Jeanty, a finalist for the award Saturday night, came up short to two-way Colorado star Travis Hunter in the voting. Jeanty had the best season of any Boise State running back in program history and one of the best in college football history.

He thought so highly of his chances to win the award, he wrote and practiced an acceptance speech and even told the world he did so.

“I practiced my speech last night to make sure I’m ready when I get up there,” Jeanty told reporters before the ceremony Saturday.

But Hunter’s dominance this season on both offense as a wide receiver and defense as a defensive back was too much for Jeanty to overcome.

Hunter received 552 first-place votes, beating out Jeanty’s 309. They were, by far, the top two finishers in the vote, and it was the closest vote since 2009.

As a wide receiver, Hunter had 92 catches for 1,152 yards and 14 total touchdowns. Hunter won the Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s top wide receiver. As a corner, Hunter had 31 tackles, 11 pass deflections and four interceptions, anchoring Colorado’s defense.

Hunter also won the Bednarik Award as the nation’s best defensive player, becoming the first player ever to win both the Bednarik and Biletnikoff.

Jeanty was the first running back Heisman Trophy finalist since 2017 after an impressive season in which he led the country with 2,497 yards rushing and 29 touchdowns.

The running back helped lead Boise State to the No. 3 seed in the College Football Playoff, which includes a first-round bye. Boise State will play the winner of SMU and Penn State.

Hunter’s Colorado team fell short of the playoff, finishing at No. 23. Colorado will play BYU in the Alamo Bowl Dec. 28.
