Pop-Tarts Bowl trophy is also a fully functioning toaster

0

The winner of this year’s Pop-Tarts Bowl will be able to taste victory in the form of a toasted breakfast pastry.

The only bowl with an edible mascot now has a fully functional toaster for the winning team to enjoy on the field after the Dec. 28 game in Orlando, Florida.

Pop-Tarts Bowl officials on Sunday unveiled the new trophy, which features a silver football with two metallic slots to insert Pop-Tarts. (See the video at the top of this article.)

Last year’s trophy looked the same, but that one was for display only.

This year’s trophy, created with the help of GE Appliances, will allow the Pop-Tarts Bowl champions to toast their game-winning snacks.

As bowl games outside the College Football Playoff have become more diluted, organizers have sought new ways to steal the spotlight.

Food has often overshadowed the games because of the creative on-field celebrations.

Formerly known as the Cheez-It Bowl (not to be confused with the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl, also played in Orlando), the game pitting a team from the Atlantic Coast Conference and Big 12 Conference was renamed after the breakfast pastry in 2023. That was its sixth name change (and third food) since relocating from South Florida in 2001.

The bowl also has an anthropomorphic Pop-Tart mascot named Strawberry.

After Kansas State defeated North Carolina State in last year’s Pop-Tarts Bowl, Strawberry was lowered into a giant toaster and presented to players from the winning team to eat (replaced by an edible replica).

A fan vote was held this year to determine which flavor of Pop-Tart the players would get to eat after the game.

The choices were between cinnamon roll, hot fudge sundae and wild berry. The cinnamon roll won.

Pennsylvania mother infuriated after Biden commutes sentence for ‘kids-for-cash’ judge: ‘Ruined my son’s life’

This story discusses suicide. If you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide, please contact the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988 or 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

A Pennsylvania mother took aim at President Biden after he commuted the prison sentence for a corrupt judge who imposed sentences on juveniles in exchange for millions of dollars in return.

Sandy Fonzo’s son Edward Kenzakoski took his own life after having to spend eight months in juvenile detention, and she joined “FOX & Friends” to reveal her message to the president.

BIDEN COMMUTES 1,500 JAIL SENTENCES, GRANTS PARDONS FOR 39 OTHERS: ‘LARGEST SINGLE-DAY GRANT OF CLEMENCY’

“Joe Biden came here and campaigned multiple, multiple times that he was… ‘Joe Scranton.’ He was one of us. He knew of our struggles and he cared about our community and our kids and our families, and that is just absolutely not true,” Fonzo told Steve Doocy on Monday.

“He is not one of us.”

Fonzo called for reform of the system related to presidential pardons and commutations.

“I want to see his name removed because that’s just… another slap in the face, another injustice, on top of all of the grief that everybody in this community has already endured,” she continued.

Sandy Fonzo

Sandy Fonzo, whose late son was a victim of the corrupt kickback scheme, joined ‘Fox & Friends’ to discuss her reaction to the news Biden commuted the sentence of Pennsylvania Judge Michael Conahan.

In what came to be known as the kids-for-cash scandal, former Judge Michael Conahan shut down a county-run juvenile detention center and shared $2.8 million in illegal payments from the builder and co-owner of two for-profit lockups. Another judge, Mark Ciavarella, was also involved in the illicit scheme, the effects of which are still felt today among victims and families.

Ciavarella ordered children as young as 8 years old to detention, many of them first-time offenders deemed delinquent for petty theft, jaywalking, truancy, smoking on school grounds and other minor infractions. The judge often ordered youths he had found delinquent to be immediately shackled, handcuffed and taken away without giving them a chance to put up a defense or even say goodbye to their families.

In 2022, both Conahan and Ciavarella were ordered to pay more than $200 million to nearly 300 people they victimized, although it’s unlikely the now-adult victims will see even a fraction of the damages award.

The scandal is considered Pennsylvania’s largest-ever judicial corruption scheme with the state’s supreme court throwing out some 4,000 juvenile convictions involving more than 2,300 kids after the scheme was uncovered.

Biden granted commutation to Conahan, who was jailed for more than 17 years after he was caught taking the kickbacks for sending juveniles to the for-profit detention facilities.

Conahan, 72, pleaded guilty in 2010 to one count of racketeering conspiracy but was released from prison to home confinement in 2020 because of COVID-19 health concerns with six years left in his sentence.

WHO ELSE MIGHT BIDEN PARDON AFTER HE SPARED HUNTER FROM SENTENCING?

“I was filled with every kind of emotion,” Fonzo said after she heard the news. “Hurt. Defeat. Now that I’ve had more time to process it, it’s more of anger… This is very deeply upsetting and personal.”

Biden’s announcement last week was a part of the largest single-day act of clemency in modern history in which he commuted jail sentences for nearly 1,500 people and granted 39 pardons.

Fonzo said after her son, who was involved in an underage drinking incident, was locked up for months and never recovered from it. He eventually committed suicide.

“When my son did come out, it was eight months at that time,” Fonzo said. “He was not the same person. He was pent-up with anger and bitter for all the wrong. He would not accept any kind of counseling… He didn’t want to look you in the eye… I can’t imagine, and I try to not think about what happened to him in that facility, but he never recovered from that.”

“These judges just had control,” she continued. “They had all the power, and nobody could say anything. Nobody could step up.”

Other kids who fell victim to the “kickback” scheme have died since the lawsuit began in 2009, either by overdose or suicide.

“He ruined my son’s life. My life. He ruined multiple lives,” Fonzo said.

“There’s so many kids that have lost their lives, not just my son… One of the boys that was eight, Charlie, that’s actually in the documentary with us and went around and spoke out about this. He has lost his life since. There’s so many kids that are still struggling.”

Billie Eilish not thrilled after being hit in the face with necklace

0

Despite its name, Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour” is not an open invitation for fans to throw objects at her.

Stopping in Glendale, Arizona, on Friday, the 22-year-old pop star sat cross-legged on the Desert Diamond Arena stage to perform the emotional Grammy and Academy Award-winning ballad, “What Was I Made For?” from last year’s blockbuster “Barbie” movie.

Things took a turn when she was hit directly in the face with an object.

Video shared on social media shows Eilish being hit with what appeared to be a homemade fan necklace.

Eilish winced upon its impact, turning her head to show palpable disappointment. Fans booed before Eilish re-started, picking up the necklace shortly after and tossing it aside with disgust.

A representative for Eilish did not immediately return Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

The incident is yet another display of thoughtless decision-making by fans who have in the past two years thrown objects, including phones, bracelets and bottles, at performers. Kelsea Ballerini, Harry Styles and Bebe Rexha have all been hit by objects while singing on stage. Rexha was hospitalized and required stitches after a fan threw a phone at her face in the summer of 2023.

In June 2023, Eilish told The Hollywood Reporter that the troubling trend was nothing new. “I’ve been getting hit onstage with things for like, literally, six years, I don’t know why this is like new,” Eilish said. “People just get excited and it can be dangerous.”

“It’s absolutely infuriating when you’re up there,” she added. “I have mixed feelings about it, because when you’re up there it blows. But you know it’s out of love and they’re just trying to give you something.”

Eilish’s next performance is Monday evening at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, where Styles previously fell victim in 2022.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ deputy campaign manager Rob Flaherty said during an interview that the Democratic Party was “losing hold of culture” as more and more Americans look to podcasts.

“Campaigns, in many ways, are last-mile marketers that exist on terrain that is set by culture, and the institutions by which Democrats have historically had the ability to influence culture are losing relevance,” he said during an interview with Semafor. “You don’t get a national 8-point shift to the right without losing hold of culture.”

Harris and President-elect Donald Trump both made an effort to speak to podcasts and nontraditional media ahead of the 2024 election. Flaherty told Semafor during the interview that they had a hard time booking Harris on sports podcasts.

“Sports and culture have sort of merged together, and as sports and culture became more publicly and sort of natively associated with this Trump-conservative set of values, it got more complicated for athletes to come out in favor of us,” Flaherty said. “It got more complicated for sports personalities to take us on their shows because they didn’t want to ‘do politics.’”

KAMALA HARRIS CAMPAIGN AIDES SUGGEST TRUMP’S SIT-DOWN WITH JOE ROGAN TO BLAME FOR HER NOT JOINING PODCAST

Flaherty argued that sports culture was associated with right-wing culture, and made it difficult for their campaign to reach people.

“That’s not to say Steph Curry and Steve Kerr and LeBron [James] and all them coming out wasn’t impactful or important,” Flaherty said. “It was more impactful because it had gotten so much harder. But certainly the culture that has been associated with heavy sports-watching has become associated with right-wing culture in a way that makes it harder for us to reach people.”

Harris campaign aides who have spoken out about their failed bid for the presidency have complained about the media, and place some blame on their questions for Harris.

“Real people heard, in some way, that we were not going to have interviews, which was both not true and also so counter to any kind of standard that was put on Trump, that I think that was a problem,” Jen O’Malley Dillon said during a discussion on “Pod Save America.”

She also argued that when Harris did do an interview, the questions were “small and processy,” and they weren’t “informing” a voter.

Flaherty also spoke about Harris avoiding more traditional media outlets, though Harris did do several interviews with CNN, MSNBC and Fox News ahead of the election.

“There’s just no value — with respect to my colleagues in the mainstream press — in a general election, to speaking to the New York Times or speaking to the Washington Post, because those [readers] are already with us,” Flaherty said.

US warns Americans to flee Syria or prepare to ‘shelter in place for extended periods’

0

The U.S. Embassy in Syria is urging Americans inside the war-torn country to flee immediately or prepare to “shelter in place for extended periods.”

The warning comes as the “security situation in Syria continues to be volatile and unpredictable with armed conflict and terrorism throughout the country” following the downfall of Syrian President Bashar Assad, the embassy said in a statement Monday.

“U.S. citizens should depart Syria if possible. U.S. citizens who are unable to depart should prepare contingency plans for emergency situations and be prepared to shelter in place for extended periods,” it added.

The embassy suspended operations in 2012, “and is not open for normal consular services,” its website says. In its latest advisory, the State Department recommends Americans avoid traveling to Syria “due to the risk of terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping or hostage taking, and armed conflict.”

“The U.S. government is unable to provide any routine or emergency consular services to U.S. citizens in Syria,” the embassy said Monday. “U.S. citizens in Syria who are in need of emergency assistance to depart should contact the U.S. Embassy in the country they plan to enter.”

Americans who remain in Syria are also advised by the embassy to keep their cell phones charged in case of emergency and to “monitor the news closely for breaking developments that could affect internal security, and factor updated information into your travel plans and activities.”

6 sneaky scams that could ruin your holiday season

0

The holiday season is a time filled with joy, festivities and cherished moments with family and friends. However, amidst the hustle and bustle of shopping, cooking and celebrating, it’s easy to overlook a lurking danger: scams. Scammers thrive during this busy time, preying on our excitement and stress to trick us into revealing personal information or losing money. We’re going to discuss six sneaky scams that could ruin your holiday spirit and provide you with essential tips on how to protect yourself from these deceptive tactics.

6 sneaky scams that could ruin your holiday season

1) Package delivery scam

With the holiday season in full swing, the end-of-year sales have begun, and you probably have already started your holiday shopping and are expecting packages coming via different types of delivery services like FedEx, UPS or USPS. So, if you receive a text that mentions a package delivery, you may be likely to easily fall for a scam. I was expecting a package recently and received this text out of the blue (see image).

Even though the text says the sender is not in my contact list and that it may be junk, I almost clicked the link because I was so focused on the fact that there may have been a typo in my delivery address. But once I looked a little closer, there were a few red flags in this text message that tipped me off to it being a scam.

  • First, the link does not lead you to usps.com. It’s a fake link that scammers hope you won’t notice. Notice it is uspsts.top and not usps.com. This is a common scam going around called typosquatting wherein a scammer uses a domain that looks close to a real website. Next, the text says “pls,” which is lingo for “please” that you likely wouldn’t see in correspondence from the USPS. Scammers often make typos or use poor grammar when communicating, so always double-check.
  • Scammers are sending emails, texts and even occasionally there could be a phone call that is regarding an issue with package delivery. It may be something like this text I received that has a link where they’ll end up asking for information, or you may be asked to pay a “shipping fee” to get your package.
  • Be sure to always have strong antivirus software running on your devices to prevent any disasters from happening if you were to click on a malicious link. See my expert review of the best antivirus protection for your Windows, Mac, Android and iOS devices.

How to avoid package delivery scams

If you are expecting a package, and you’re wondering if you’ve received real information or not about it, the best way to check is to go to the original confirmation you received about shipping. You most likely received an email regarding your package, and if you go to that email to get your order number, you should be able to look up the status of your order directly on any website.

8 PHISHING EMAIL SCAMS TO WATCH OUT FOR THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

2) Charity scams

Sadly, charity scams aren’t new, but they are way more prevalent during the holiday season since scammers are hoping you’re feeling more generous during this time of year. Sometimes, scammers may create fake names of organizations to get you to donate money, or they may reach out to you via phone/email/text posing as someone working for a legitimate charity. Social media has also become a popular place for charities to market themselves and reach more eyes in hopes of donations, so scammers may try to pose as fake charities. These schemes will try to appeal to your emotions during this season, so be sure to check where you donate your money so you don’t fall for a scam.

How to avoid charity scams

Never give your money to anyone immediately who approaches you or reaches out on behalf of any organization without doing your own independent research. Either do a little googling or check with a family member to see if it’s real, and if it is, you should be able to donate to an official website or an official address. You can always mention this to anyone who asks you to donate somewhere. Don’t fall into the pressure of donating right then and there. Also, always double-check the name of an organization. Sometimes (especially online), scammers will alter the name of a known organization slightly to trick you into donating.

9 WAYS SCAMMERS CAN USE YOUR PHONE NUMBER TO TRY TO TRICK YOU

3) Social media gift exchange scam

The Better Business Bureau is warning about a gift exchange scam with a new twist, which has been occurring during recent holiday seasons. It’s an online version of the popular “Secret Santa” gift exchange. However, the BBB says these social media-driven gift exchanges are actually pyramid schemes, and you will most likely be disappointed if you participate.

In the past few years, variations of the gift exchange have popped up, with someone asking you to select a random person and send them a gift to pay it forward. Another asks you to exchange bottles of wine with someone else, and while it seems fun and light-hearted, you don’t know who is on the receiving end.

How to avoid social media gift exchange scams

It may sound nice to send a holiday gift to a stranger in turn for receiving multiple gifts yourself, but you’re never going to receive many (if any) gifts at all. Don’t participate in gift exchanges with anyone you don’t know, or you won’t be able to guarantee you’ll actually be gifting someone who isn’t a scammer.

HOW TO REMOVE YOUR PRIVATE DATA FROM THE INTERNET

4) Gift card scams

Gift card scams are another popular method that has been rising in popularity recently, but it’s especially important to watch out for the possibilities, since you may be purchasing gift cards for friends or family for the holidays. Scammers often steal gift cards and use the information before they make it look like they didn’t. They have a number of methods for tricking you using gift cards, so if you can send an online one (so that you can ensure you’ve purchased it on a legitimate, official website), that would be a much safer alternative.

How to avoid gift card scams

If you’re getting anyone a gift card and buying it in person, be sure to check that the package hasn’t been tampered with. Double-check that nothing on the packaging looks suspicious since scammers will try to make it seem like the package was sealed, but they will already have used the gift card, so you’re essentially buying a useless piece of plastic.

6 sneaky scams that could ruin your holiday season

THE BEST WAY TO BUY GIFT CARDS EVER

5) Home Depot email confirmation scam

Scammers are capitalizing on the festive spirit with a deceptive email campaign targeting people at this time of year. This scam involves a deceptive email that appears to be from Home Depot with such wording as “Confirmation needed: please confirm receipt.” The email body typically contains enticing text like “Congratulations! The Home Depot – You are our winner!” along with a customer number and a blue circle that says, “Check if you won.” Who couldn’t use a little extra cheer or perhaps a holiday prize from Home Depot this season?

The problem is this is a scam, and the goal of this scam is to lure you into clicking on an embedded link, which can lead to various malicious outcomes. These include phishing for personal and financial information, installing malware on your device, redirecting to a fake website that resembles Home Depot’s or prompting you to pay a “delivery fee” for a non-existent prize.

How to avoid Home Depot email scams

To protect yourself from this and similar scams, scrutinize the sender’s email address for any discrepancies. Hover over links without clicking to reveal their true destination. Be wary of unexpected “winnings” or requests for confirmation. If you receive an email that raises suspicion, contact Home Depot directly through their official website or customer service number to verify its legitimacy. Finally, remember that legitimate companies will not ask you to confirm sensitive information via email or require you to click on links to claim prizes.

6 sneaky scams that could ruin your holiday season

6) Fake online shopping sites scam

One of the most common scams during the holiday season is the fake online shopping site scam. Scammers create websites that look like legitimate online stores but are actually designed to steal your personal and financial information. They may offer products at very low prices or claim to have limited-time deals or exclusive items. They may also send you phishing emails or text messages with links to these fake sites.

6 sneaky scams that could ruin your holiday season

A woman shopping on her laptop (Kurt “CyberGuy” Knutsson)

Some signs of a fake online shopping site are:

  • The website address does not match the name of the store or brand.
  • The website has poor design and/or spelling and grammar errors.
  • The website does not have a secure connection (https) or a padlock icon in the address bar.
  • The website asks for too much personal information, such as your Social Security number or bank account details.
  • The website does not have a clear return policy, contact information or customer reviews.

How to avoid falling victim to this scam

By following a few simple precautions, you can significantly reduce your risk of falling prey to online scams and ensure a safer shopping experience.

1) Shop only from trusted and reputable online stores that you know and have used before.

2) Check the website address carefully and look for any red flags.

3) Do some research on the online store before making a purchase. Read customer reviews, look for ratings or search for complaints online.

4) Use a credit card or a secure payment service like PayPal when shopping online. Do not use debit cards, wire transfers or gift cards.

5) Keep track of your online purchases and monitor your bank statements for any unauthorized charges.

6) Use strong antivirus protection software. An effective antivirus software is a must-have. The best way to protect yourself from clicking on any malicious links on fake websites or in phishing emails and text messages is to have antivirus protection installed and actively running on all your devices. It’s the best to help stop and alert you of any malware in your system and ultimately protect you from being hacked. See my expert review of the best antivirus protection for your Windows, Mac, Android and iOS devices.

7) Use a personal data removal service. Scammers can obtain your information from various online sources, including data brokers, people search sites and public records. Using a data removal service can help reduce your digital footprint, making it harder for scammers to access your personal information. This proactive step can be crucial in preventing identity theft and minimizing the chances of falling victim to scams during the busy holiday season.

While no service promises to remove all your data from the internet, having a removal service is great if you want to constantly monitor and automate the process of removing your information from hundreds of sites continuously over a longer period of time. Check out my top picks for data removal services here.

I’ve been scammed! What to do next?

Below are some next steps if you find you or your loved one is a victim of identity theft.

1) If you can regain control of your accounts, change your passwords and inform the account provider

2) Look through bank statements and checking account transactions to see where outlier activity started

3) Use an identity theft protection service: Identity theft companies can monitor personal information like your Social Security number, phone number and email address and alert you if it is being sold on the dark web or being used to open an account. They can also assist you in freezing your bank and credit card accounts to prevent further unauthorized use by criminals.

One of the best parts of using some services is that they might include identity theft insurance of up to $1 million to cover losses and legal fees and a white-glove fraud resolution team where a U.S.-based case manager helps you recover any lossesSee my tips and best picks on how to protect yourself from identity theft.

4) Report any breaches to official government agencies like the Federal Communications Commission.

5) Get the professional advice of a lawyer

  • Before speaking to law enforcement, especially when you are dealing with criminal identity theft
  • If being a victim of criminal identity theft leaves you unable to secure employment or housing

6) Alert all three major credit bureaus and possibly place a fraud alert on your credit report.

7) Run your own background check or request a copy of one if that is how you discovered your information has been used by a criminal.

If you are a victim of identity theft, the most important thing to do is to take immediate action to mitigate the damage and prevent further harm.

Texans’ Calen Bullock talks scary play that left Dolphins’ Grant DuBose hospitalized

0

Houston Texans defensive back Calen Bullock delivered the hit on Miami Dolphins wide receiver Grant DuBose that created a scary situation for the player on Sunday.

DuBose was down on the field for several moments and medical personnel had to cut off his jersey and remove his shoulder pads before placing him on a stretcher and carrying him out of the arena. DuBose spent the rest of the night in the hospital.

Bullock told reporters he didn’t think he was going to face discipline for the play.

“My intention was never to go out there and just try to completely take someone out of the game and hurt somebody,” he said, via KPRC-TV.

“My intentions was never to go out and hurt nobody, that’s never any of our intentions. So, prayers out to him and his family. I hope he’s good. I was just seeing the ball, and I was breaking on the ball, and it just happened to be one of those type of plays.”

Bullock was flagged on the play. DuBose appeared to clench his fists after the hit – movements consistent with the “fencing response.”

“Very tough to have seen live,” Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said. “I’m my toughest critic when it comes to ball placement, when it comes to knowing where to go with the ball and all that. I just feel bad that I even put him in that situation to have gotten hit. It was tough to move on after that happened.”

Tagovailoa had multiple concussions in his NFL career – some extremely scary for a live audience to witness firsthand.

“We all know that I’ve gone through something similar, and that’s no fun,” Tagovailoa added. “You never want to be put in any of those situations, but you also understand that this is a physical sport. It’s a contact sport. Again, I just think of what I could have done to not put Grant in that situation.”

It was the second straight Texans game in which an opposing player was injured by a sketchy hit. Houston linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair hit Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence on Dec. 1.

Jesus is the gift | Fox News

0

James* is not the type of person you meet every day.

He stands over six feet tall and has a commanding presence. He lives in Minneapolis and has struggled, like some of us, with addictions.

One day, he was down on his luck and feeling lost. He asked God for a sign that he was real, that he was alive. It was the summer of 2023 and James often walked up and down city blocks, looking for something to feed his addiction, to fill that empty space inside.

That same day, James encountered a group of young people who were on a mission of their own. These young evangelists were looking for people who would listen to them share the Good News of Jesus. They approached James on the street and asked him: “Do you believe in God?”

James didn’t know what to say, but he believed this might be a sign.

The group shared the Gospel with him, but he still had questions like: “Who is Jesus? How do I put my faith in Him? How do I know I’m saved?” He was looking for answers.

Making the connection

I find myself using social media quite often, mostly as a way to connect with others. I started the outreach ministry Pulse Evangelism 20 years ago because I wanted to make Jesus known to a world that is distracted and in despair.

When I saw a Facebook chat message from a guy named James, I thought: This is not normal.

“Hey, this is James. I had a few questions for you about Jesus,” he wrote.

I found out he had encountered a group of our young evangelists that same day.

He told me there was a hole in his life, and he had tried to fill it with everything you can imagine. I told him about the grace of Jesus, that He died for his sins–and mine. I invited him to my office to talk.

When James arrived, I had to crane my neck to look up at him. This guy is tall! We talked about what grace means and how Jesus paid it all for our sins.

And then James did something that surprised him as much as me: He gave his life to Jesus. Right there in my office, realizing how God’s grace wasn’t just for a few people. It wasn’t for those who are good or perfect. It was for someone like him.

“A relationship with Jesus Christ has filled me more than anything I’ve ever tried, bought, or stole,” he says. He’s now plugged into a church and growing in his faith.

It’s an amazing story of grace, but I have to tell you: It doesn’t always turn out that way. Sometimes, grace shows up in unexpected places.

Are you ready for revival?

Revival is breaking out around the world, and people like James who struggled with addictions, younger generations like those sharing Jesus that day in Minneapolis, and those from every race and tribe are leading the charge.

Maybe you are doubting that revival is really happening. I understand.

We think it should be the rich and famous, the politically astute – the smart ones among us. Maybe you think the world has gotten too dark, too divided.

As someone who has devoted the entirety of my adult life investing into people of all walks of life, there is certainly much to be discouraged about.

That said, REVIVAL IS HAPPENING — and you don’t have to take my word for it.

This Christmas, you can see for yourself exactly what God is doing.

My challenge in this season is to think about the anthem of your life. Like James, have you asked yourself: What are you living for? What drives you and motivates you?

To me, an anthem can form the basis of a global conversation. It’s a vision to challenge every individual on earth to answer the question: What is the anthem of my life?

Put another way: What are you living for and most loud about? Literally, an anthem is defined as the song or sound of a movement. So, my challenge to people of all walks of life is to consider whether the anthem of your life is what you want it to be.

For those whose life has been changed by Jesus, this is an invitation to get loud about what matters most—namely, it is to share the hope of Jesus this Christmas season.

And, I have a great way you can help.

Anthem Christmas broadcast coming December 18

Coming up on December 18, the Anthem Christmas broadcast includes stirring new renditions of the song Amazing Grace by Rend Collective and Katy Nichole, plus some of their well-known songs. It also features testimonies by two emerging young adult evangelists. There’s even an interview with former Pro Bowl and Super Bowl winning quarterback, Carson Wentz.

Most importantly, because this is about leading people to Jesus and finding hope in Him, I will be sharing a Gospel message and giving an invitation to respond.

That’s where you come in.

Will you help us by watching the Anthem Christmas broadcast, sharing it with others, hosting events at your church, and most of all encouraging your friends and family to watch and share their story? Will you join the anthem with others this holiday season?

As someone who was trained and mentored under Billy Graham, Luis Palau, and others, I know firsthand the impact this kind of investment in other people can make.

I believe so many of the scandals we see in the world today could have been avoided if we had invested in those around us, sharing the hope of Jesus.

Through the Anthem Christmas broadcast, we are praying for hundreds of thousands to say yes to Jesus. We know it’s all worth it for the One — King Jesus, the Son of God, born in a manger, who lived the life we could not live, died the death we deserved on the cross, and rose triumphantly from the grave.

Through the power of his Spirit, we follow his example of going after each person, testifying to the reality that Jesus forgives, heals, delivers, and saves all who call upon his name.

Join the revival. Join the anthem.

Trump allies push for more White House control over Congress’ purse strings

0

House GOP allies of President-elect Donald Trump are pushing for him to have greater control over Congress’ annual government spending process next year.

Rep. Andrew Clyde, R-Ga., is introducing a bill on Monday that would repeal a measure that forces the president to direct the federal government to spend the full amount of money allocated by Congress every year.

Clyde told Fox News Digital on Thursday that he also plans to introduce the bill in the next Congress, when Republicans control the House, Senate and White House – and that the issue is already being discussed in Trump’s circle.

“That was certainly a topic that was brought up” with Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk when they were on Capitol Hill earlier this month to discuss the Department of Government Efficiency, Clyde said.

“They’re in favor of it, because how can you be efficient and not have the ability to reduce spending? You simply can’t.”

He also told a small group of reporters earlier this month that incoming Trump Office Of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought “is very much in favor of this.”

The Impoundment Control Act of 1974 was passed during the Nixon administration and aimed at stopping the president from having unilateral say over government spending.

Currently, a president must get congressional approval to rescind any funding that has been allocated for a certain year. The funds in question can be held for up to 45 days while the request gets processed.

“I think the authority is very, very important for the president to exercise,” Clyde said. “Ever since Congress introduced that act, you’ve seen spending literally spiraling upwards. And that’s just not good for our country.”

Clyde’s bill would roll back the Impoundment Control Act. A corresponding bill is being introduced in the Senate by Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah.

Clyde said over a dozen House Republicans are backing his bill as well.

Musk and Ramaswamy advocated for Trump to have greater authority to rescind funding in an op-ed published by the Wall Street Journal last month, after the president-elect tapped them to lead an advisory panel on cutting government waste.

The Georgia Republican acknowledged that the bill has long odds in the current Democrat-controlled Senate and with just one week left in the congressional term, but said he would “definitely” introduce it in the next Congress.

Rep. Brendan Boyle

He described Monday’s introduction as “putting a flag in the ground, saying ‘Hey, this is an authority that the president should be able to use in an unhindered fashion, and we are going to help.’”

However, the issue is likely to fall along partisan lines. Rep. Brendan Boyle, D-Pa., the top Democrat on the House Budget Committee, responded to Musk and Ramaswamy’s op-ed by calling their ideas “as idiotic as they are dangerous.”

“Unilaterally slashing funds that have been lawfully appropriated by the people’s elected representatives in Congress would be a devastating power grab that undermines our economy and puts families and communities at risk,” Boyle said in a statement.
