Saturday showers, windy weekend – Boston News, Weather, Sports

0

Good morning! We’re waking up to a soggy start for southern New England. Steady showers favor the morning hours. Light rain tapers off through the afternoon. Then plan on it being a windy day! As we clear out, the wind picks up with strong gusts 30-40 mph.

We’re starting out with temperatures in the 40s and we won’t budge much thanks to thick clouds and cold air advection. While highs will be in the mid/upper 40s, it will feel chillier with the wind. Dress for the 30s.

Tonight, it’s still breezy. Temperatures will bottom out in the upper 30s/low 40s. Clouds will decrease. That sets the stage for sunshine Sunday. Keep in mind with our overnight lows and the breeze, it will feel like the upper 20s/low 30s if you’re up early tomorrow morning.

Sunday offers more sunshine and still plenty of wind. Gusts pick up again in the afternoon 30-40 mph. Highs do a tiny bit better in the upper 40s.

Looking ahead to next week, Monday and Wednesday are going to be your best Thanksgiving travel days. Tuesday, also the busiest travel day, there will be some light showers. I think about .25”of rain, but any raindrop can cause issues on the roads.

Thanksgiving and Black Friday, we’re eyeing another storm. It’s too far out for exacts details, but it could bring some towns snow. Friday looks like the wetter of the two days.

Trump’s sway over Republicans stronger than ever, but Sununu says GOP still a ‘big-tent party’

0

MARCO ISLAND, Fla. — With his convincing White House victory this month, President-elect Donald Trump’s grip over the Republican Party is firmer than ever.

But a popular Republican governor who has long been a vocal critic of the former and future president says that there’s still room in the GOP for those outside of the MAGA and America First base.

“The party is a big-tent party. There’s no question about it,” Sununu said in a Fox News Digital interview this week along the sidelines of the Republican Governors Association winter meeting, which was held at a waterfront resort in southwest Florida.

Sununu, who was a top surrogate and supporter of former U.N. ambassador and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Trump’s final challenger in the 2024 GOP presidential primaries, backed the Republican nominee in the general election.

EXCLUSIVE: WHAT THE NEW REPUBLICAN GOVERNORS CHAIR TOLD FOX NEWS

“It was a huge victory across the country, and the people of this country have spoken very loudly and unequivocally,” Sununu said of Trump’s electoral college and popular vote victory.

And the governor acknowledged that Trump is “the standard-bearer of the party” and “the voice of the party.”

“But this is a very large party. If it wasn’t, he (Trump) wouldn’t have won. If it wasn’t, we wouldn’t have had convincing wins all across this country in a variety of different states,” Sununu said.

REPUBLICAN GOVERNORS SAY WITH TRUMP ELECTION, ‘WE’VE GOT A FRIEND IN THE WHITE HOUSE’

Asked about the president-elect’s flurry of announcements on Cabinet nominations this month, Sununu said that “he definitely has a couple of controversial Cabinet picks that … I don’t mind saying I’m not the biggest fan of, but the vast majority of them are terrific.” (Sununu was interviewed before former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., withdrew his name from consideration as attorney general amid a growing scandal.)

“He’s bringing folks from the private sector, he’s bringing in governors, he’s bringing in folks that have real experience in all of these issues and that understand the mission, which is fiscal responsibility,” Sununu said, “getting regulations out of the way, which effectively lowers costs on business, lowers costs on consumers, lowers costs for everyday citizens.”

Sununu didn’t stump on Trump’s behalf in swing state New Hampshire, but he crisscrossed the campaign trail on behalf of down-ballot Republicans. The governor was a top surrogate for former Sen. Kelly Ayotte, the GOP gubernatorial nominee who emerged victorious on Election Day and has pledged to continue the Sununu agenda.

Asked if Ayotte’s nearly nine and half point win was also a victory for him, Sununu said, “It was a victory for New Hampshire.”

“Kelly’s going to be phenomenal. She has that experience as an attorney general, as U.S. senator. She understands how the systems work,” Sununu said. “Our transition is already going incredibly smoothly; discussions virtually every single day about all aspects of government, where it’s going, how to build good teams and, most importantly … the opportunities to listen to what’s happening in the communities.”

“She’ll have my cell number. I don’t know if she’ll need it, because I think she’s going to be fantastic on her own, but she’ll always have my cell number,” Sununu said when asked if he’d be offering advice to his successor.

FORMER AND FUTURE GOP RISING STAR SPEAKS WITH FOX NEWS

And pointing to his two Democrat predecessors as governor, who Sununu said shared their cellphone numbers with him: “We want New Hampshire to be successful. So it’s not just me helping Kelly out. It is always a team effort. She’s going to have a host of people that she can lean on for any advice when she needs it.”

After mulling a 2024 White House run, Sununu announced in the summer of 2023 that he would launch a presidential campaign, and weeks later he also said he wouldn’t seek an unprecedented fifth two-year term steering the Granite State. (New Hampshire and neighboring Vermont are the only two states in the nation to hold gubernatorial elections every two years.)

New Hampshire sets date for presidential primary, bucking President Biden and national Democrats

“I’m excited to get back to the private sector. I like businesses, I like deal sourcing,” he said. “I’m not sure exactly what the private sector is going to bring, but I think it’s going to be pretty exciting.”

New Hampshire will likely have a competitive Senate contest in 2026 when longtime Democrat Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, a former governor, is up for re-election.

But Sununu reiterated what he told Fox News Digital in July.

“Definitely ruling out running for the Senate in 2026. Yeah, definitely not on my dance card,” he said.

But the governor predicted that Republicans will “have a good candidate. There’s no question about it. A couple of different folks that might be interested in running. I think that’d be fantastic. We’ve had an all-Democrat [congressional] delegation for a long time. I think the people in the state, especially with Kelly’s convincing win, would love a different voice, would love just some sort of change.”

Asked if there’s another run for office in his future, the 50-year-old governor said he’s “not thinking about that at all, excited for the private sector. And that’s all … that’s in my windshield.”

But he didn’t entirely shut the door, adding, “We’ll see what political chapters write themselves down the road.”

Bill Maher vows he won’t ‘pre-hate’ incoming Trump administration: ‘Let’s see what the disruptors can do’

0

“Real Time” host Bill Maher vowed that he wouldn’t “pre-hate” the incoming Trump administration despite his own personal animosity towards President-elect Donald Trump.

“They are calling themselves the ‘disruptors,'” Maher began during a panel discussion Friday night. “The country does need disrupting. I mean, the country needs a colonic and a slap in the face so bad.

“This is not who I would choose to administer the colonic but it’s not like the bureaucracy isn’t bloated. It’s not like the debt isn’t $36 trillion. it’s not like there aren’t thousands of regulations that do stop people from living lives that they could live better and don’t do anything. There is woke in the military. Whatever they’re going after… I’m not going to pre-hate anything,” Maher said.

“Do I have really good, optimistic feelings about it? No, I don’t. I’m just not gonna pre-hate. I can’t get into that mind[set]. Let’s see what the disruptors can do. Because, quite frankly, the experts have just sort of, like, let something go for so long that it’s just sclerotic now and constipated.”

BILL MAHER SAYS ‘MY HEAD’S NOT EXPLODING’ OVER TRUMP PICKING RFK JR. FOR HHS: ‘WE DO NEED SHAKING UP’

Bill Maher

The HBO star offered some skepticism towards how effective the “disruptors” will be when the “corn lobby,” “pharmaceutical industry” and “defense contractors” begin voicing their objections towards the administration’s policies.

“Let’s see what happens,” Maher said.

MAHER BLASTS LEFT ‘DOUBLING DOWN’ ON WHAT ‘F—ED’ THEM IN ELECTION: ‘TAKE ONE WEEK TO ASK WHAT YOU DID WRONG’

Later in the conversation, Maher conceded that Trump was correct in his assessment on how to resolve the Russia-Ukraine war after mentioning the Biden administration allowing Ukraine to fire US-made missiles into Russia, fueling fears of further escalation by the Kremlin.

“It just looks like everybody’s coming on board to the idea that, I hate to admit it, Trump said at the beginning, it’s gonna be a negotiated settlement. Marco Rubio was saying- he’s going to be Secretary of State,” Maher said. “And I feel like– that they are losing the war, Ukraine. And they are noble, and we support them, certainly in spirit, should we do it as we have been?”

He went on to compare the ongoing war to last week’s highly-watched boxing match between 27-year-old influencer Jake Paul and 58-year-old boxing legend Mike Tyson.

“I remember a week ago and I was leaving here, everyone was talking about it. ‘Oh, what’s gonna happen?’ And then you saw the fight and you realize- we kind of really knew in the rational part of our brain from the beginning that a 58-year-old man who was over the hill in the 90s was not gonna beat this [27]-year-old behemoth. And yet we all were like, ‘Maybe- oh, I’m gonna go home and watch it!’ Maher said.

Last week, Maher appeared open-minded about the prospect of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. leading the Department of Health and Human Services, saying “we do need shaking up.”

“Well, the system as it is, the way we do health, is already very f—ed,” Maher said. “So maybe he’ll make it worse. But, like, my head is not exploding about it.”

“The law is an ass” is an English proverb now liberally practiced by certain American judges who are neither sensible nor fair.

New York Judge Juan Merchan has consistently proven the point by his maltreatment of Donald Trump in the ill-conceived, if not farcical, prosecution brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.  The case resulted in preordained guilty verdicts last May in a trial that stands as a monument to injustice.

But on Friday, in the aftermath of Trump’s presidential victory, Merchan canceled next week’s scheduled sentencing and reluctantly agreed to formally consider a defense motion to dismiss the case entirely.  A sensible and fair judge would grant it.  That may exclude Merchan.

NEW YORK JUDGE GRANTS TRUMP REQUEST TO FILE MOTION TO DISMISS CHARGES, CANCELS SENTENCING INDEFINITELY

In previous letters to the judge, defense attorneys make a compelling argument that the convictions should be vacated given their client’s election as the next commander-in-chief.  It is a position that is constitutionally unique.

They correctly contend that “immediate dismissal is mandated by the federal Constitution, the Presidential Transition Act of 1963, and the interest of justice to facilitate the orderly transition of executive power…”

Indeed, it is well established that presidents are immune from any criminal process, state or federal.  This same principle necessarily extends to a president-elect who must be free from “disruption occasioned by the transfer of power.”  (3 U.S.C. 102 note)

States have no authority to transgress federal laws passed by Congress, including the Transition Act.  Interference by a local prosecutor and/or judge could jeopardize the national interest and prove detrimental to the safety and well being of its people, as the statute explains.

BRAGG VS. TRUMP: NYC IS DROWNING IN CRIME. HOW DOES CONVICTING THE FORMER PRESIDENT MAKE US SAFE?

In his Friday order, Merchan also recognized his authority to set aside the verdicts if mistakes were made at trial which would merit reversal.  There were so many that you’d need a calculator with infinity technology to keep track.

Chief among them was that prosecutors relied on tainted evidence prohibited in the presidential immunity standard enunciated by the Supreme Court on July 1.

Testimony from White House officials such as Hope Hicks and Madeleine Westerhout, as well as numerous presidential records, should never have been introduced.  They quite clearly constituted “official acts” that are protected and thereby inadmissible, just as the defense argued in vain pre-trial.  Merchan was unmoved.

Judge Merchan’s courtroom was a cesspool of incomprehensible rulings that deprived Trump of a fair trial.  Both judge and prosecutors worked in concert to engineer the guilty verdicts.

For months, Bragg has opposed dismissal. He implausibly claims that such immunity evidence was wholly unimportant and had “no bearing” on the outcome.  Really?  Why then did his prosecutors emphasize the crucial nature of that very evidence during closing arguments?

Considering Merchan’s blatant anti-Trump bias throughout the trial, he could still side with Bragg by asserting that the court’s reversible error was merely harmless and had little or no impact on the jury’s verdicts.  If he does, the judge must to turn a blind eye to how the high court specifically foreclosed this type of harmless-error analysis.

BRAGG CASE ‘EFFECTIVELY OVER’ IN ‘MAJOR VICTORY,’ TRUMP OFFICIALS SAY

Should Merchan reject dismissal, it would allow the Trump team to seek an immediate appeal on the immunity issue.  It represents such an affront to the law that the entire case stands an excellent chance of being overturned on that basis.

The trial court’s immunity mistake is just one of many egregious errors committed by Merchan.  His courtroom was a cesspool of incomprehensible rulings that deprived Trump of a fair trial.  Both judge and prosecutors worked in concert to engineer the guilty verdicts.

At every turn, they manipulated the law and mangled evidence while operating outside the confines of the legal process.  Political bias smothered the defendant’s due process rights.  They were run through an industrial-size shredder.

The charges themselves were so convoluted as to be incoherent.  We still don’t know what Trump was convicted of.  Theoretically, bookkeeping errors were allegedly committed to further another crime in an unlawful attempt to influence the 2016 election.

But what a minute. What crime exactly? Was it federal campaign law violations? Taxation laws? False business records?  Select from the aforementioned menu of imaginary possibilities.

TRUMP LAWYERS DEMAND BRAGG CASE BE ‘IMMEDIATELY DISMISSED,’ SAY ELECTION ‘SUPERSEDES’ POLITICAL ‘MOTIVATIONS’

Trump doesn’t even know because prosecutors never said. And neither did the jurors when they rendered their verdicts.  In an appalling instruction to the panel, Merchan declared that they did not have to identify which crimes were supposedly perpetrated and need not agree unanimously.

If you’re scratching your head, you are not alone.  Even a high school civics student knows that unanimity in criminal convictions is a bedrock principle. The Supreme Court has reinforced that standard repeatedly. Yet, Merchan ignored it with impunity.

The dilemma for Trump is that he can not appeal any of the judge’s legal errors at trial (with the exception of an adverse immunity ruling) until there is an official “adjudication” which occurs only at sentencing.  At present, that process is on hold indefinitely.

This is by design. Merchan and Bragg both know that the convictions will get tossed if an appellate court ever gets a gander at the trial charade.  That is precisely why they aim to defer or delay sentencing, perhaps until after Trump leaves office in 2029. The president would spend four years with a coercive “sword of Damocles” dangling overhead.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINION

If that is their unscrupulous scheme, it would violate New York state law (CPL 380.30) which requires sentencing at “a specified date no later than twelve months from the entering of a conviction.”  Not that Merchan cares.

Thus far, he seems unmoved by the great weight of the law that frowns on his Machiavellian machinations.  Either determined or desperate, his honor clings dishonorably to a vindictive prosecution.  Trump was falsely accused and wrongfully convicted.

Yet Merchan persists in propping up a tortured case that should have been quashed by him the moment the indictment was rendered.  It was a harebrained prosecution from the outset, motivated by a politically-driven DA who happily embraced the Democrats’ corrupt lawfare campaign against Trump.

This eight-year-old odyssey is the personification of a shameful miscarriage of justice.

The law itself is not an ass.  But Merchan has made it look like one.

Here’s how to protect yourself against E. coli – and when to see a doctor

0

Amid the news of yet another food recall due to E. coli contamination, many people are wondering what they can do to keep themselves safe.

A meatpacking company this week recalled more than 167,000 pounds of ground beef amid fears it was tainted with the bacteria.

At least 19 people in Minnesota became ill after consuming the beef, which was shipped to restaurants, according to federal health officials. An investigation is ongoing, the Associated Press reported.

KEEP YOUR KITCHEN BACTERIA-FREE WITH THESE FOOD SAFETY TIPS FOR HOME COOKS

The ground beef recall came on the heels of a massive recall of organic carrots that were also contaminated with E. coli. That outbreak, so far, has sickened people in at least 18 states and killed at least one, according to reports.

E. coli — the more common name of the bacterium Escherichia coli — is a type of bacterium found in the environment, foods and intestines of people and animals, according to the CDC’s website.

People can contract E. coli through a myriad of sources, including contaminated water and food and contact with animals.

Eating meat that has not been cooked sufficiently to kill E. coli can cause infection, according to Mitzi D. Baum, CEO of Stop Foodborne Illness in Chicago.

“Among other known sources of infection is consumption of sprouts, lettuce, salami, unpasteurized milk (and milk products) and unpasteurized juice, and swimming in or drinking sewage-contaminated water,” she told Fox News Digital.

How to stay safe

So how can people stay safe — and when should they go to a doctor if they suspect they are ill?

E. COLI OUTBREAK LINKED TO MCDONALD’S BURGERS: HOW TO SPOT THE SYMPTOMS

Mena Mirhom, M.D., FAPA, an assistant professor at Columbia University Medical Center in New York, told Fox News Digital that concerned consumers should exercise the “4C” method when it comes to food safety.

These four Cs, he said, are “clean,” “cut,” “cook,” and “chill.”

A person should “wash food and hands thoroughly, especially now.”

A person should “wash food and hands thoroughly, especially now,” he said.

Additionally, people should “separate raw chicken, beef and seafood” to prevent contamination, including using separate cutting boards when preparing food.

Cooking food “thoroughly” will inhibit bacteria growth, he said, as will refrigerating food immediately.

Letting food sit at room temperature can result in a favorable environment for bacteria, including E. coli, to flourish.

While anyone can contract E. coli, certain groups – including children under age 5 and adults over age 65, as well as those with weakened immune systems – are at an increased risk of serious complications, including death.

Some types of E. coli bacteria cause diarrhea, noted the CDC website. Diarrhea can be dangerous, particularly in young children.

To decide about seeking medical treatment, Mirhom referenced a mnemonic device known as “BATHS.”

Esophageal cancer

People should seek medical help if they have symptoms for more than three or four days, or dehydration issues, a doctor told Fox News Digital. (iStock)

B, said Mirhom, stands for “bloody diarrhea,” “A” is for “abdominal pain that’s persistent,” “T” is for “temperature” – meaning a fever over 101 degrees – H is a “hydration issue, becoming dehydrated or showing discolored urine,” and “S” is for “symptoms that persist for three to four days.”

Anyone with suspected E. coli with symptoms that fall under the “BATHS” conditions should contact a doctor, he said.

Hilton Grand Vacations CEO Mark Wang talks love of F1, providing opportunity of lifetime

0

Hilton Grand Vacations CEO Mark Wang’s love for Formula 1 started when he was young.

He made an impromptu trip to the 1980 Long Beach Grand Prix. Hearing the roar of the engines as the speed machines traveled by left an indelible mark on the future executive of one of the most well-known resort brands in the world.

Wang’s interest in the world-renowned sport also helped spark the offer of a lifetime — sitting trackside for the Las Vegas Grand Prix over the weekend.

It’s the second year the race is being held in the entertainment capital of the world and the second year Hilton Grand Vacations has offered the experience.

Wang recalled to Fox News Digital while sitting in the Owners Lounge high above the Strip that he knew once he saw the track layout that Hilton Grand Vacations would be in a terrific spot to capitalize on a partnership with Formula 1 and offer fans of the sport a way to get close to the action.

“This would be a really great opportunity for us to be able to provide our members and guests with an experience that probably most of them never experienced before,” Wang recalled thinking at the time. “So, the teams went to work and came up with a concept around the HGV Clubhouse.”

It’s more than just feeling the engines roar by or the glitz and glamor that the Las Vegas scene can provide. Wang sought to give guests and members a high-class viewing of one of the more lavish sports in the world.

“We built this amazing clubhouse. Two-story structure. It sits right on the track, and, so, you get a great viewing. We also put a lot of A/V in there so you can watch a live simulcast from three different angles. You can tell where each car is on the track.

“In any of these races, for the most part, they’re flashing by you, and you want to get a sense of where everything is. Then, some really great culinary we put in place for our guests.”

Not to mention live music and driving simulators to keep fans entertained in between practice runs, qualifying and the race itself.

Wang said his love for F1 brought him to the 1982 Caesars Palace Grand Prix. The course was 2.268 miles in length and fit in a parking lot. It was a far cry from the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix, which is 3.853 miles in length, where cars whiz by down Las Vegas Boulevard.

MCLAREN’S ZAK BROWN TALKS MENTALITY IN TIGHT RACE FOR F1 CONSTRUCTORS’ CHAMPIONSHIP

Where Wang drew inspiration for the HGV Clubhouse was from F1 races around the world.

“I think I’ve drawn my inspiration from the hospitality and the experience that we were trying to provide for our guests,” he said. “Our business always had this great spirit of hospitality — the Hilton brand and being stewards of the Hilton brand. But the spirit of experiences is something we’ve been building into our business, especially over the last four or five years.”

Wang said providing an experience that was different from watching on TV was important.

He used professional hockey as an example, where seeing the game on TV doesn’t exactly translate to the energy and fast-paced play seen in arenas.

“It’s like watching car racing on TV. You don’t really necessarily get the same feel exactly,” he explained. “For me, it’s talking to our members and them expressing to me how exciting this opportunity is for them to be able to experience this.”

The Las Vegas Grand Prix is one of the three final races left in the season. Max Verstappen holds a lead over McLaren’s Lando Norris, and the Red Bull driver could win the championship if everything goes his way this weekend.

Wang said he’s pulling for Norris to contend for the championship but was excited how the season fared overall.

“What’s really exciting about the race, it’s like six or seven guys who can win,” he said. “Everybody can put their money on Max Verstappen. He was winning everything, right? So, it’s been very competitive. It’s nice to see it that way.

Texas AG sues Dallas for decriminalizing marijuana

0

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced a lawsuit Thursday targeting the blue city of Dallas over a ballot measure that decriminalizes marijuana.

Paxton alleges that Proposition R, which “prohibits the Dallas Police Department from making arrests or issuing citations for marijuana possession or considering the odor of marijuana as probable cause for search or seizure,” violates state law.

The attorney general argues in the lawsuit that the ballot measure is preempted by Texas law, which criminalizes the possession and distribution of marijuana. Paxton also claims the Texas Constitution prohibits municipalities from adopting an ordinance that conflicts with laws enacted by the state legislature.

“Cities cannot pick and choose which State laws they follow,” Paxton said in a statement. “The City of Dallas has no authority to override Texas drug laws or prohibit the police from enforcing them.”

Paxton called the ballot measure “a backdoor attempt to violate the Texas Constitution” and threatened to sue any other city that “tries to constrain police in this fashion.”

The lawsuit comes after interim Dallas Police Department Chief Michael Igo directed Dallas police officers not to enforce marijuana laws against those found to be in possession of less than 4 ounces.

Ground Game Texas, a progressive nonprofit group that campaigned in favor of the ballot measure, argued it would help “keep people out of jail for marijuana possession,” “reduce racially biased policing” and “save millions in public funding.”

“It’s unfortunate but not surprising that Attorney General Ken Paxton has apparently chosen to waste everyone’s time and money by filing yet another baseless lawsuit against marijuana decriminalization,” said Catina Voellinger, executive director for Ground Game Texas.

“Judges in Travis and Hays counties have already dismissed identical lawsuits filed there. The Dallas Freedom Act was overwhelmingly approved by 67% of voters — this is democracy in action.”

Caesars Sportsbook senior trader talks F1’s explosion in United States

0

It’s nearly time for the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Formula 1’s impact in the United States has increased significantly.

If the fanfare in Las Vegas didn’t prove it, then three races and the possibility of an American race team joining the fold does.

And so do the betting markets.

“I think it was a slow burner initially,” Caesars Sportsbook Senior Trader Chris Pearce told Fox News Digital. “I think recently, because there’s more and more Grands Prix in the Northern Hemisphere, and in the U.S., especially with the Austin Grand Prix as well as Vegas, it is picking up.

“And there’s definitely more interest. It’s one of those things that if you spend the time on the products, you offer more markets, you give it the showcase that it deserves, then the punters will latch onto that.”

Pearce said the growth in F1 bets exploded over the last few years with the Las Vegas Grand Prix helping in 2023.

“The growth is definitely at least three times higher than when I first took the product over two years ago. And the Vegas Grand Prix has again really helped to grow the products,” he said. “Last year, it was the glitz and the sparkle. You don’t really get that from the more established grand prix. Obviously, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone was key globally and was the signature grand prix of the year.

“I think, last year, everybody was looking forward to Vegas more than the British Grand Prix and followed on into this year. So, yes, it’s growing, and I expect it to grow more as well. I think that year the turnout for the Vegas Grand Prix was three times that of Daytona, which obviously is an established U.S. race. If we offer the markets, it should grow even further.”

MCLAREN’S ZAK BROWN TALKS MENTALITY IN TIGHT RACE FOR F1 CONSTRUCTORS’ CHAMPIONSHIP

There won’t be an American on the starting grid this year after Logan Sargeant’s time with Williams Racing abruptly came to an end this season.

But with the success and popularity of Netflix’s “Drive to Survive” docu-series, superstars like Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, who have international appeal in Europe and Asia, have helped become household names in the U.S.

“It’s a little bit of both, I think,” Pearce said of whether an American driver affects the betting market. “Last year, Logan Sargeant was on the grid. He was by far our biggest liability going into the race. He was a multimillion-dollar loser for us last year. So, when he was going into free practice and qualifying, there was a little bit of worry that something may fall into the race. Luckily, we dodged that bullet.

“Yes, the U.S. driver does help. And, that said, because of the recent Netflix series with F1, that’s helped to push the sport and the names within the sport. I think more people now do tend to know drivers outside of (Lewis) Hamilton, outside of, say, the past (Michael) Schumacher. They will know Lando Norris. They will know Carlos Sainz.”

The Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research raised more than $3.7 million through its 17th annual Benefit Bash on Nov. 15.

“Rally Foundation is doing outstanding work, and this mission is not just about raising funds for childhood cancer research — it’s about raising awareness and hope for these young children fighting cancer,” Alain Bellemare, Delta Airlines international president said in a news release. “The generosity of our community seen here tonight, coming together around this cause, is making a big difference.”

Bellemar and Altium Packaging President and CEO Sean Fallmann served as the corporate chairmen of the event, which raises funds for cutting-edge, dual peer-reviewed childhood cancer research projects.

Fallmann said he and his wife have witnessed firsthand the work done by Rally for years, seeing the impact the foundation has made in funding research to help kids overcome cancer, according to the release.

“This is why we are here — to drive change and improve outcomes for childhood cancer patients today and for generations to come,” Fallmann said.

Rally Foundation founder and CEO Dean Crowe thanked the sponsors, attendees, committee members, and volunteers who generously gave their time and resources throughout the night.

In its 19 years, Rally Foundation has awarded $35 million funding 597 grants across the U.S. and worldwide to pioneering researchers and institutions, driving innovative breakthroughs in treatment, according to the release. Its advocacy has secured $223 million from the Department of Defense Medical Research Program, expanding access to cutting-edge research and therapies for cancers in children, adolescents, and young adults.

Key sponsors of the Rally Foundation Benefit Bash included: Delta Air Lines, Altium Packaging, RTX, Adonis Partners, Airbus, American Express, AWS, Consello, Deloitte, Kaiser Permanente, Penske Corporation, Sabre, SkyHop Global, Adobe Systems, Aercap, BCD Travel, Cox Enterprises, CWT, DirecTV, DoMyOwn.com, EY, GA Telesis, Georgia Pacific, Heico, IBM, Loews Corporation, MRO Holdings, Republic Airways, ServiceNow, Sharecare and T-Mobile.
