NFL insider rips ex-Titans coach for admitting years later to feeding him bogus story before firing

0

NFL insider Ian Rapoport called out former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Mularkey after Mularkey revealed more than six years after his firing that he fed Rapoport a bogus story to get back at his soon-to-be former employer.

During a recent interview on “The Jaguars Hour with Brent & Austen,” Mularkey confessed that he knew he was about to get fired despite leading the team to its first playoff appearance in nearly a decade.

To get back at the organization, Mularkey called the NFL reporter to plant a fake story that he was instead getting a contract extension despite the widespread belief that he was, in fact, on his way out.

“He reported it. It was all over the country that I was getting a contract knowing that I was gonna get fired, but I just wanted to see the faces on the owner and the GM, who was out to get me,” Mularkey said.

“When I walked in the next morning, there wasn’t a whole lot of conversation. It was like, ‘All right, you’re done.’”

While Mularkey may have found joy in the moment, Rapoport wasn’t laughing six years later.

NFL FANS TORCH OFFICIALS AFTER QUESTIONABLE CALL IN TITANS-VIKINGS GAME

“Those guys, yukking it up — pretty funny, for them, I guess, if you don’t care about accuracy and taking someone’s reputation and rubbing it in the mud,” Rapoport said on the NFL Network Friday.

“Everyone said Mike Mularkey’s a good guy — he always was to me. I liked him. Thought he was very respectable. That is not cool. That’s not funny. I was a younger reporter then, and the amount of online hate and ridicule I got because Mike Mularkey thought it would be funny to get back at his old boss — it was not fun.

“So, I don’t have much to say. I don’t blame Mike Mularkey, but I want to. And that was not cool, and that was not funny. And we should treat truth better than that.”

Mularkey took over as head coach in Tennessee halfway through the 2015 season. In his final season with the team, he led the Titans to the playoffs with a 9-7 record. They defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in the wild-card round before being eliminated by the New England Patriots.

ESPN’s Elle Duncan claps back at Giants fans irked by Daniel Jones criticism

0

ESPN’s Elle Duncan did a segment on Thursday during “SportsCenter” that irked some within the New York Giants organization and its fans.

Duncan did a segment, ‘Taking the Elle,’ mocking Daniel Jones for reading a statement to begin what was essentially his goodbye press conference.

“We normally reserve ‘Taking the Elle’ for Fridays, but Giants quarterback Daniel Jones just did something so inexplicable that we made an exception. After being benched this week, Jones took to the podium to say goodbye to the franchise and fans but with, like, seven games left in the season,” Duncan said in a mocking tone.

“I’m sorry, you have to write this down? Didn’t you go to Duke?” Duncan said incredulously.

“Do you guys think he had this saved in his notes since, like, 2020? In all seriousness, DJ, I could have saved you like 90 seconds. A re-write: ‘Sorry you paid me $108 million for one playoff win. And I look forward to reviving my career as Brock Purdy’s backup.’ The end,” Duncan concluded.

Giants senior V.P. of communications Pat Hanlon took exception to Duncan’s segment, while also taking a shot at ESPN in a post on X on Thursday night.

“That an #ESPN personality would mock Daniel Jones’ statement today is mind boggling. Given what has happened at that company over past few years, tone deaf,” Hanlon wrote.

The Giants agreed to release Jones on Friday, and during a rant bashing the Giants on “First Take,” Stephen A Smith said the team had reached out to ESPN to complain about Duncan’s segment.

Duncan took to X on Saturday morning to clap back at some of the fans upset about her segment.

“It started flurrying this morning after a surprising amount of snow on my drive yesterday. I guess you could say I can’t seem to escape all these snowflakes..”

One X user responded to her tweet saying, “Doubling down on being classless suits you. Not a Giants fan but if this is where ‘sports media’ has fallen then you are perfect for the job.”

Jones can sign with a team as early as Tuesday next week, once he clears waivers on Monday.

Novak Djokovic announces he has hired longtime rival Andy Murray to be next coach

0

Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray became rivals as they played against each other on some of tennis’s biggest stages.

Now, Djokovic and Murray will be working together. The pair announced on social media that Murray will be Djokovic’s coach during the offseason and at least through the Australian Open.

“We played each other since we were boys — 25 years of being rivals, of pushing each other beyond our limits. We had some of the most epic battles in our sport. They called us game-changers, risk-takers, history-makers,” Djokovic said on a video he posted to social media.

“I thought our story may be over. Turns out, it has one final chapter. It’s time for one of my toughest opponents to step into my corner. Welcome on board, Coach — Andy Murray.”

In March, after winning 12 Grand Slam titles in six years with coach Goran Ivaniseiv, Djokovic split from his longtime coach and has not hired anyone permanently since.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion had a down season in 2024, not winning a Grand Slam or any tour-level tournament. Djokovic’s crowning achievement was winning a gold medal for Serbia at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Murray, 37, retired from competitive play after the Olympics in July and is looking forward to beginning his next chapter in tennis.

“I’m going to be joining Novak’s team in the offseason, helping him to prepare for the Australian Open,” Murray said in a statement released by his management team. “I’m really excited for it and looking forward to spending time on the same side of the net as Novak for a change, helping him to achieve his goals.”

Djokovic, also 37, and Murray were born a week apart in May 1987 and faced off 36 times in their professional career. Djokovic holds a 25-11 record over Murray, including Djokovic holding an 11-8 in finals, and 8-2 in Grand Slam tournaments.

Djokovic beat Murray in the Australian Open four times; in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2016.

Murray won two of three of his Grand Slams with Djokovic as his opponent, the 2012 U.S. Open and the 2013 Wimbledon final, when Murray became the first British man in 77 years to win the singles championship at the All England Club.

Next year’s Australian Open starts on Jan. 12.

Conor McGregor lashes out on rape accuser in social media rant after being found liable for assault

0

A civil jury in Ireland ruled that Conor McGregor assaulted a woman in a penthouse after a night of partying in 2018 during a sexual encounter, but McGregor says the claims are false.

The former UFC champion said, in a since-deleted post, that he would appeal the civil jury’s decision, but he ranted on X earlier Saturday about his accuser’s “lies.”

The accuser, Nikita Hand, also accused triathlete James Lawrence of assault on the same night that McGregor allegedly “brutally raped and battered” her.

Despite the court ordering McGregor to pay over $250,000, it also found that Lawrence was innocent.

“Justice was served for James Lawrence, yes! Deplorable what they done. Nikita hand, vicious liar! APPEAL!” McGregor posted on X Saturday morning in reposting a story from the Irish Independent.

McGregor also wrote that Hand had “falsely accused a man of rape and lost.”

“Two men falsely accused. One vindicated, the other soon to be! Congrats James Lawrence on absolute exoneration!” McGregor wrote in another post. “Twice this heinous accusation was put to you and twice it was shown as FALSE! LIES! It is absolutely disgraceful what they put you through here. Disgraceful! I look forward to seeing you further vindicate yourself and lambast those responsible in court! We know what happened that night! Everyone present knows, yet it was ignored. Every single statement of persons present on the night was ignored. And they all disputed Nikita’s LIES!”

Lawrence himself wrote in an Instagram Story post that Hand is “an absolute disgrace and a slap in the face to any girl that did ever go threw [sic] this for real.”

CONOR MCGREGOR FOUND LIABLE OF ASSAULT IN IRELAND CIVIL COURT STEMMING FROM SEXUAL ENCOUNTER

Hand said that McGregor had bruised her during sex, to a point where a paramedic testified that he had not seen someone with that intensity of bruising. She also claimed that McGregor had put her in a chokehold several times and later told her, “Now you know how I felt in the octagon where I tapped out three times.”

McGregor said that the two had had sex that had been athletic and vigorous but not rough. He said that “she never said, ‘No’ or stopped” and testified that everything she had said was a lie.

McGregor previously was accused of sexually assaulting someone in a bathroom at an NBA Finals game in 2022, but he avoided charges.

NY Times advice column ponders how Democrats should deal with Trump-supporting family members

0

The New York Times Ethicist advice column on Friday responded to a reader question about how Democratic voters should deal with close relatives who supported President-elect Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris in the election.

“I strongly oppose Trump, as do my wife and her family, who live nearby. I’m troubled by my mother’s support of someone I consider morally abhorrent and dangerous, especially when she voted in a former swing state,” the person seeking advice wrote. “With the result of the 2024 election, my wife and her family are directing their understandable fury at my mother. My wife’s sister said, ‘‘If she voted for Trump again, I’m completely done with her.’’ I expect that the next time they interact it will not be pretty.”

The Ethicist has tackled a similar question in October, answering a reader’s question about whether it is appropriate to leave the country if the “wrong” candidate becomes president.

For the current query, the Times reader revealed, “But my mother is a member of our family, and an invaluable caregiver to our children. She’s pleasant and kind in daily life and moved far from her home primarily for us and her grandkids. And she is my mother, after all. I’m torn. My wife and her family expect me to brook no compromise and to speak out on an issue that feels existential to them (as it does to me), but because I know that her vote here doesn’t make a difference, I have trouble feeling motivated to admonish her for her past and possibly present support of Trump.”

HOLLYWOOD ACTRESS DESPONDENT OVER TRUMP VICTORY FEELS ‘ANXIETY’ FOR PEOPLE STUCK IN AMERICA

The Ethicist suggested they speak honestly with their mother about their own views, but advised against “cudgeling her with them.”

“Once you’ve said your piece and listened to what she has to say in her defense, repeating the same arguments over and over would be the act of a bully. Citizens, let alone family members, shouldn’t be eager to direct vitriol against people whose political views they don’t share. If the rest of your family wants to go on doing that, you should tell them that they’re being unkind and unhelpful,” the NYT Ethicist suggested.

The NYT author, Kwame Anthony Appiah, offered a personal anecdote.

“A friend of mine who is active in progressive politics and served in the Biden administration has a mother who voted for Trump. The mother, who is Black, Southern and religiously devout, is a single-issue voter: She’s fervently opposed to abortion. My friend deeply disagrees with her mother’s position but finds it intelligible. They’ve made their peace,” he wrote.

The NYT author encouraged the person to remember that people are much more than “the sum of their political views.”

“Today, family gatherings routinely unite Catholics and Protestants, Jews and gentiles, Baptists and Episcopalians, Blacks and whites and Latinos and Asians; not so long ago, they could unite Democrats and Republicans. In perfect harmony? Far from it. But it helps to remember people are more than the sum of their political views — and that intolerance has a habit of breeding intolerance,” he wrote.

The column comes as others also question how to grapple with the results of the election. Yale University chief psychiatry resident Dr. Amanda Calhoun spoke to MSNBC host Joy Reid about how liberals who are devastated by Trump’s re-election can cope with the news, including separating from loved ones.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

“There is a push, I think just a societal norm that if somebody is your family, that they are entitled to your time, and I think the answer is absolutely not,” Calhoun told the talk show host. “So if you are going to a situation where you have family members, where you have close friends who you know have voted in ways that are against you, like what you said, against your livelihood, it’s completely fine to not be around those people and to tell them why, you know, to say, ‘I have a problem with the way that you voted, because it went against my very livelihood and I’m not going to be around you this holiday.’”

“The View” co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Whoopi Goldberg appeared to agree with the argument.

Hostin said she “completely” understands Calhoun’s point about distancing oneself from family this holiday season.

“I really do feel that this candidate, you know, President-elect Trump, is just a different type of candidate, from the things he said and the things he’s done and the things he will do, it’s more of a moral issue for me and I think it’s more of a moral issue for other people,” she said. “We’re just — you know, I would say it was different when, let’s say, Bush got elected. You may not have agreed with his policies, but you didn’t feel like he was a deeply flawed person, deeply flawed by character, deeply flawed in morality.”

NFL says Packers blocked game-winning field was legal play, despite Bears’ protests: reports

0

The Chicago Bears were in position to snap their three-game losing streak last Sunday with kicker Cairo Santos needing to make a 46-yard field goal as time expired to beat the Green Bay Packers.

Santos’ kick was blocked by Karl Brooks, and the Packers held on for a 20-19 victory, handing the Bears their fourth straight loss and dropping them to 4-6 on the season.

Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said on Monday they were going to submit the blocked kick to the league, saying he thought there should have been a penalty on the Packers because “they were obviously on our long snapper.”

The NFL rule prohibits players from lining up directly across from the long snapper, or contacting the long snapper while his head is still down immediately after the snap.

Eberflus thought Packers defensive lineman T.J. Slaton made contact with Bears long snapper Scott Daly immediately and that the referees should have thrown a flag.

If officials rule that a defender illegally contacts the long snapper with his head down, it is a 15-yard unnecessary roughness call. The Bears would have had a chance to try another field goal.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the NFL’s league officiating office informed the Bears that the Packers had made a clean play on the blocked field goal attempt.

While there was contact between Slaton and Daly, the NFL deemed Slaton’s contact legal, as players are allowed to contact the long snapper as long as his head is not down.

It wouldn’t have mattered if the NFL agreed with Eberflus and deemed the contact illegal, because there are do-overs. The call instead would have been acknowledged as a missed call by the league, and the Bears would still be 4-6.

The Bears hope to stop their losing streak when they take on the 8-2 Minnesota Vikings in an NFC North battle on Sunday.

Dog stuck on the ‘slippery’ roof of a home brings out a crew of rescuers

Firefighters were called to help a stranded St. Bernard that found itself trapped in an unusual spot this week.

The dog became trapped on a home’s “icy, slippery roof” while its owners were away, according to reports.

A concerned neighbor spotted the St. Bernard as it was positioned on the home’s roof in Pitsea, Essex, England, on the morning of Nov. 22.

Aaron Rodgers interested in playing in 2025 but not with Jets: report

0

The honeymoon is officially over.

The New York Jets’ tumultuous season has led to a massive overhaul that saw owner Woody Johnson fire head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas in a span of just a few weeks, and, according to a report, the quarterback position could be next on the chopping block.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported Saturday that tensions between Johnson and Aaron Rodgers have boiled over this season, which began with Super Bowl aspirations.

Sources told the NFL insider that Johnson has lost confidence in Rodgers’ ability to end the Jets 14-season playoff drought, and while no decisions have been made, Rodgers “could be placed on injured reserve or possibly benched over the next few weeks.”

Sources around the league even speculated the four-time league MVP could be cut before the season ends.

But the feeling is reportedly mutual.

JETS OWNER WOODY JOHNSON FLOATED BENCHING AARON RODGERS BEFORE FIRING COACH, GM: REPORT

Russini reported that the relationship between Johnson and Rodgers has been strained for months, and, according to sources with the team and around the league, the former Green Bay Packers star wants to play next season, just not with the Jets.

The report follows an earlier report from the publication that indicated Johnson’s desire to bench Rodgers after the team’s Week 4 loss to the Denver Broncos. According to sources, Johnson was talked out of the move, but, after another loss, the decision to fire Saleh was made.

Hoping to restart the offense, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett was then stripped of play-calling duties just a few days later in favor of passing game coordinator Todd Downing. Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, the team’s one bright spot at the time, was also promoted to interim head coach.

Despite the changes, the Jets went 1-5 after Saleh’s exit and sit at third in the AFC East with a 3-8 record heading into their bye week. Douglas was fired this week after the team’s latest loss, and the Jets appear further away from a playoff push than ever before.

‘Gladiator II’ director compares Denzel Washington’s character to Trump: ‘A clever gangster’

0

Ridley Scott, the director of “Gladiator II,” said during an interview that Denzel Washington’s character in the movie, Marcinus, was similar to President-elect Trump.

“[Macrinus] was a prisoner of war — probably at a North African state — and actually was taken to Rome probably as a gladiator. Survived. Got free. Got into the business of maybe making wine and bread. He evolved into a very rich merchant selling s— to the Roman armies — food, oil, wine, cloth, weapons, everything. He maybe had a million men spread around Europe. So he was a billionaire at the time, so why wouldn’t he [have ambitions toward the throne]? ‘Why not me?’ He’s also a gangster — very close to Trump. A clever gangster. He creates chaos and from chaos he can evolve,” Scott told The Hollywood Reporter.

“Gladiator II” hit theaters on Friday and also stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Joseph Quinn, and Fred Hechinger.

“He’s trying to use everybody. He’d use his mother, he’d use his own children; he’s already used up his soul, so he didn’t have any left. He’s in bed with the devil,” Washington told the outlet about his character.

‘GLADIATOR II’ DIRECTOR RIDLEY SCOTT BACKTRACKS ON AI AFTER CALLING IT A ‘TECHNICAL HYDROGEN BOMB’

The Hollywood Reporter also asked Scott about how it was working with Washington.

“We were right in the middle of Harlem and Denzel was like, ‘Do you know what you’re doing?’ ‘Of course I know what the f— I’m doing.’ ‘Do you know about this music?’ ‘Of course I do.’ Once he saw I knew what I was doing, he was very sweet. With [Gladiator II], I think he was a bit shocked by the scale. How could he not be? Of course, I’m used to it,” Scott responded.

Washington recently opened up about his sobriety during an interview with Esquire. He revealed he was drinking two bottles of win a day.

“Wine is very tricky. It’s very slow. It ain’t like, boom, all of a sudden,” Washington said. “And part of it was, we built this big house in 1999 with a 10,000-bottle wine cellar, and I learned to drink the best. So, I’m going to drink my ’61s and my ’82s and whatever we had. Wine was my thing, and now I was popping $4,000 bottles just because that’s what was left.”
