Patrick Mahomes plays through ankle sprain to lead Chiefs to victory vs. Texans

0

Patrick Mahomes remains undefeated against ankle injuries.

The Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback took the field on Saturday, battling through an ankle sprain to deliver a 27-19 win over the Houston Texans. Mahomes passed for 260 yards with one touchdown pass and one touchdown run.

Mahomes was never a guarantee to play after leaving last Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns with the sprain. But it didn’t even stop him from missing any practice this week, as Mahomes went through his typical routine despite the injury.

It was familiar territory for the three-time Super Bowl champion. Mahomes has played through an ankle sprain in the 2022 playoffs, when he returned in the AFC championship after suffering the injury to beat the Cincinnati Bengals and then played two weeks later to beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.

Mahomes’ most recent ankle sprain was said to be mild, which typically still takes two to four weeks to fully heal. However, Mahomes has proven to be a player who returns from injury more quickly than expected.

The last time Mahomes missed a game due to an injury was 2019 when he missed just two games after suffering a dislocated patella against the Denver Broncos.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters during the week that he was “amazed” by his quarterback’s ability to return from injury so quickly.

“I’ve been through it with him before, and he amazes me every time he does it,” Reid said. “He’s so mentally tough. It’s a mindset he has going into it. Where he was a few days ago, I’d probably say it was a longshot. He’s done well with it.”

Mahomes, meanwhile, under-promised and over-delivered on his availability this week. He suggested to reporters on Tuesday that he wouldn’t play unless he felt he wouldn’t “limit the game plan” with his injury.

“I don’t want to limit the game plan,” Mahomes said. “That’s another thing for me. I want to be able to still be able to move around the pocket so we’re not just sitting in one spot the whole entire game and leading the D-line to get after it. So, it’s about me finding that balance and seeing where I’m at and, like I said, I won’t know until closer to the end of this week.”

But with the win, Mahomes and the Chiefs close in closer on history. For vanity’s sake, they have won their 16th straight game by one possession, breaking a tie with the 2004 New England Patriots.

More importantly, they are now just one win away from securing the No. 1 seed in the AFC. That would grant the Chiefs a first-round bye and home-field advantage en-route to the Super Bowl.

Mahomes and company are looking to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls. Their road to achieving that just got shorter with Mahomes’ latest heroics.

Filmmaker says bloodied Superman represents ‘our country’

0

Filmmaker James Gunn says the battered-looking version of Superman seen in the trailer for his highly anticipated “Superman” film represents America.

During a recent Q&A session at the trailer’s premiere, the director acknowledged the political implications present in the film, saying there is a theme of a bruised and bloodied America running through it.

“We do have a battered Superman in the beginning. That is our country,” Gunn said at the event.

Gunn, Corenswet

The trailer debuted online Thursday, teasing a whole new cinematic universe for the legendary DC Comics superhero. Superman is played by actor David Corenswet this time around, alongside Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane.

In addition to reintroducing audiences to the classic Superman characters, the roughly two-minute trailer featured the titular character in dire straits, lying bloodied and bruised in an Arctic wasteland.

The opening shots of the trailer feature the roughed up superhero using his remaining strength to whistle for his dog, Krypto, to rescue him.

Gunn said the shocking images of the broken hero are a reference to an America that still stands for goodness despite what he called its current bloodied and beat-up state.

“I believe in the goodness of human beings, and I believe that most people in this country, despite their ideological beliefs, their politics, are doing their best to get by and be good people — despite what it may seem like to the other side,” he said.

But the beleaguered state of Gunn’s Superman represents America when corrupted by “darker voices,” he said.

“This movie is about that. It’s about the basic kindness of human beings, and that it can be seen as uncool and under siege [by] some of the darker voices are some of the louder voices.”

Elsewhere during the Q&A, Gunn reiterated the idea that the movie is about human goodness overcoming these “darker” influences.

He said, “It’s about the basic kindness of human beings. It’s a noble premise, and one that seems designed to appeal across the political spectrum. It’s a moral call to embrace decency and optimism.”

Gunn, who steered clear of political specifics, has long been a critic of President-elect Donald Trump, calling him in a 2017 post “an incompetent President forging a full-blown attack on facts and journalism in the style of Hitler and Putin.”

During the Superman event, Gunn also mentioned how he wanted his reboot to keep its distance from some of the themes of the franchise’s past iterations.

“Yet, given how often contemporary superhero stories have been scrutinized as allegories for our polarized era, there’s an undercurrent of concern,” he said. “After all, previous DC installments have been criticized for flirting with darker political undertones and ‘fascistic power fantasies.’”

“We all felt like we were doing something good… not a fascistic power fantasy,” he added elsewhere.

Yankees sign one-time MVP Paul Goldschmidt as they continue to pivot after losing Juan Soto: reports

0

The New York Yankees keep making moves.

The Yankees have signed first baseman Paul Goldschmidt to a one-year contract, according to the YES Network’s Jack Curry.

Goldschmidt, 37, has spent the last six seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, winning the NL MVP in 2022.

Last season was a down year by Goldschmidt’s standards, as he hit just .245 with 22 home runs.

However, over the last two months of the season, Goldschmidt hit better, batting .273 while getting on base more.

Goldschmidt is a career .289 hitter with 362 career home runs and 1187 RBIs over his 14-year career.

First base last year was a position where the Yankees did not get a lot of offensive production, as rookie Ben Rice and veteran Anthony Rizzo both struggled.

The Yankees first basemen in 2024 combined for an OPS (On-base plus slugging percentage) of just .619, the lowest in Major League Baseball.

The seven-time All-Star will slot into the middle of the Yankees lineup, deepening an already strong Yankees lineup despite losing Juan Soto to the New York Mets.

Since losing Soto, the Yankees have turned to their “Plan B.” The team signed starting pitcher Max Fried, acquired closer Devin Williams, acquired outfielder Cody Bellinger and signed Goldschmidt.

Goldschmidt is not the first MVP winner the Yankees have acquired this offseason, as Bellinger won the 2019 NL MVP with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Yankees have four MVP winners in their lineup with the addition of Goldschmidt, Bellinger, Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge.

Stanton won the NL MVP in 2017 with the Miami Marlins, while Judge has won the AL MVP in both 2022 and 2024.

Lawmakers react to stopgap funding and averting government shutdown

0

As the dust settles on Congress frantically passing a stopgap bill at the eleventh hour to avoid a government shutdown, lawmakers are having their say on a chaotic week on Capitol Hill.

President Biden signed the 118-page bill into law on Saturday, extending government funding into March, the White House announced. The bill provides over $100 billion in disaster aid for those affected by storms Helene and Milton in the U.S. Southeast earlier this year. It also includes a $10 billion provision for economic assistance to farmers.

President Biden has not yet publicly commented on the passage of the legislation, nor has President-elect Trump, although sources tell Fox that the incoming president is not that happy about the bill, because it does not suspend the debt ceiling.

PRESIDENT BIDEN SIGNS STOPGAP FUNDING BILL INTO LAW, NARROWLY AVERTING SHUTDOWN

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., who faced criticism from both Republicans and Democrats for his handling of the negotiations, said after the House vote that the result was “a good outcome for the country.” He said he had spoken with Trump and that the president-elect “was certainly happy about this outcome, as well.”

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., considered the legislation a win for his party.

“The House Democrats have successfully stopped extreme MAGA Republicans from shutting down the government, crashing the economy and hurting working-class Americans all across the nation,” Jeffries said, referring to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., praised Democrats, including Jeffries and Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., for “their unity and courage withstanding the Trump-Musk irresponsibility.”

“Democrats will always fight to protect the needs of America’s working families, veterans, seniors, farmers and first responders against the GOP’s agenda for billionaires and special interests.”

A bulging 1,547-page continuing resolution was thrown into disarray earlier in the week following objections by Elon Musk and President-elect Trump. A slimmed-down version was then rejected by House members on Thursday before the House approved Speaker Mike Johnson’s new bill overwhelmingly on Friday by 366 votes to 34.

The Senate worked into early Saturday morning to pass the bill 85-11, just after the deadline.

WHITE HOUSE PRESSED ON BIDEN REFUSING TO SPEAK PUBLICLY AHEAD OF SHUTDOWN

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer praised the passage of the funding legislation early Saturday.

“There will be no government shutdown right before Christmas,” Schumer wrote on X. “We will keep the government open with a bipartisan bill that funds the government, helps Americans affected by hurricanes and natural disasters, helps our farmers and avoids harmful cuts.”

Meanwhile, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., said the revised funding package keeps government funded at current levels, delivers aid to Americans suffering from natural disasters and protects agricultural supply chains.

“Not only is this straightforward bill much more palatable to me, but it respects the taxpayers we represent, unlike the previous backroom boondoggle I opposed that was over 1,500 pages long and gave unnecessary and costly giveaways to the Democrats,” Malliotakis wrote on X.

“Passing this legislation today gives us what we need until President Trump is sworn in and settled so our Republican trifecta can deliver the results the American people voted for.”

Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., questioned why President Biden appeared to play a limited role in negotiations.

“People fail to recognize that even though the focus has been on President Trump, Joe Biden is actually still the president, which is really mind-boggling, because nobody’s heard from him in weeks,” Lawler told Fox and Friends Weekend on Saturday, adding that the debt ceiling has been used as a “political piñata for decades.”

“The party in the minority uses it as leverage in a negotiation, and I think what President Trump is trying to avoid is giving Democrats a loaded gun to hold to his head here.”

Elsewhere, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., applauded the Senate for approving the D.C. Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium Campus Revitalization Act, which he had introduced and helped pass in the House.

The bill would give the District of Columbia control of the 174-acre RFK campus and revive potential plans for a new Washington Commanders stadium.

The surprising move came after a provision in the initial continuing resolution (CR) — to transfer control of the RFK campus from the federal government to the District — was eliminated from Thursday’s slimmed down version of the bill.

“The Senate’s passage of the D.C. RFK Stadium Campus Revitalization Act is a historic moment for our nation’s capital. If Congress failed to act today, this decaying land in Washington would continue to cost taxpayers a fortune to maintain,” Comer said.

“Revitalizing this RFK Memorial Stadium site has been a top economic priority for the city, and I am proud to have partnered with D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser to get this bill across the finish line and to the President’s desk. This bipartisan success is a testament to the House Oversight Committee’s unwavering effort to protect taxpayers and our full commitment to ensuring a capital that is prosperous for residents and visitors for generations to come,” he added.

Texans’ Tank Dell suffers gruesome leg injury, leaving teammates in tears

0

Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell was taken off the field in an ambulance during Saturday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs after suffering a gruesome leg injury while scoring a touchdown in the second half.

The heartbreaking scene came just a little over three minutes into the second half when quarterback CJ Stroud connected with Dell in the endzone for a 30-yard touchdown pass.

Almost immediately after making the catch, the second-year receiver remained down in obvious pain. He appeared to have sustained a serious knee injury.

Texans players gathered around Dell and prayed over him, as Stroud was visibly shaken by Dell’s injury.

He was eventually taken off the field by what looked to be an ambulance.

Blake Lively sues Justin Baldoni for sexual harassment, retaliation and infliction of emotional distress

0

Months after rumors of an on-set feud between “It Ends with Us” costars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni first surfaced, the “Gossip Girl” alum filed a complaint against the actor for sexual harassment.

According to court documents obtained by Fox News Digital, the complaint — which was filed with the California Civil Rights department — details allegations of sexual harassment, retaliation, intentional affliction of emotional distress, negligence and more.

On Jan. 4, an “all hands” meeting was convened to address the” hostile work environment that had nearly derailed production,” the documents state. Attendees included Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, Baldoni, who is the co-chairman and co-founder of Wayfarer Studios, director and actor Jamey Heath, and more.

“Ms. Lively was forced to address concerns about Mr. Baldoni and Mr. Heath’s misconduct with them directly, and began doing so months before filming began. The concerns she raised were not only for herself, but for the other female cast and crew, some of whom had also spoken up.”

According to the documents, some of the demands addressed included no more showing nude videos or images of women to Blake, no more mention of Baldoni’s or Heath’s previous ‘pornography addiction,’ no more discussions about personal experiences with sex, no more descriptions of their own genitalia, no more adding sex scenes outside what was in the original script, no more discussions about Blake’s weight or deceased father, and more.

At the time, all parties agreed that the outlined conduct would cease. Despite the agreement, Lively claims in the complaint that Baldoni executed and participated in a “social manipulation” campaign to “destroy” her career and reputation.

In a statement given to The New York Times, Lively said, “I hope that my legal action helps pull back the curtain on these sinister retaliatory tactics to harm people who speak up about misconduct and helps protect others who may be targeted.”

Additionally, Lively denied that she or any of her representatives planted or spread negative information about Mr. Baldoni or Wayfarer, according to The Times.

Bryan Freedman, an attorney for Baldoni and Wayfarer, told The Times, “These claims are completely false, outrageous and intentionally salacious with an intent to publicly hurt and rehash a narrative in the media.”

Freedman added that Wayfarer, and its executives and PR team “did nothing proactive nor retaliated” against Lively. Freedman claims Lively’s complaint is “another desperate attempt to ‘fix’ her negative reputation.”

Representatives for Baldoni, including Freedman, did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment. A representative for Lively referred to the New York Times article for additional information.

Rumors of a feud between the costars started during the film’s press tour this summer.

Fans took to TikTok and other social media platforms to share theories behind peculiar aspects of the press tour.

Baldoni largely did his portion of the press tour solo despite being the lead alongside Lively. The two never posed together for cast photos and Lively rarely mentioned her costar in interviews.

Trump names Aaron Reitz, Chad Mizelle and David Fink as newest admin nominees

0

President-elect Trump dropped his latest round of nominations on Saturday afternoon, naming two picks to help lead the Department of Justice (DOJ) and one to work within the Department of Transportation (DOT).

In a Truth Social post, the president-elect announced that he was nominating Aaron Reitz to lead the DOJ’s Office of Legal Policy (OLP). Trump wrote that Reitz would “develop and implement DOJ’s battle plans to advance my Law and Order Agenda, and restore integrity to our Justice System.”

“Aaron is currently Senator Ted Cruz’s Chief of Staff, and was previously Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s Deputy, where he led dozens of successful lawsuits against the lawless and crooked Biden Administration,” Trump continued, adding that Reitz would work closely with Trump’s pick for U.S. attorney general, Pam Bondi.

“Aaron is a true MAGA attorney, a warrior for our Constitution, and will do an outstanding job at DOJ. Congratulations Aaron!”
