Israeli ambassador to US says Hezbollah cease-fire deal could come ‘within days’ – Boston News, Weather, Sports

0

The Israeli ambassador to Washington says that a cease-fire deal to end fighting between Israel and the Lebanon-based Hezbollah could be reached “within days.”

Ambassador Mike Herzog told Israeli Army Radio on Monday that there remained “points to finalize” and that any deal required agreement from the government. But he said “we are close to a deal” and that “it can happen within days.”

Among the issues that remain is an Israeli demand to reserve the right to act should Hezbollah violate its obligations under the emerging deal. The deal seeks to push Hezbollah and Israeli troops out of southern Lebanon.

Israel accuses Hezbollah of not adhering to a U.N. resolution that ended the 2006 war between the sides that made similar provisions, and Israel has concerns that Hezbollah could stage a Hamas-style cross-border attack from southern Lebanon if it maintains a heavy presence there. Lebanon says Israel also violated the 2006 resolution. Lebanon complains about military jets and naval ships entering Lebanese territory even when there is no active conflict.

It is not clear whether Lebanon would agree to the demand.

The optimism surrounding a deal comes after a top U.S. envoy held talks between the sides last week in a bid to clinch a deal.

Hezbollah began attacking Israel on Oct. 8, 2023, a day after Hamas’ raid on southern Israel, setting off more than a year of fighting. That escalated into all-out war in September with massive Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon and later an Israeli ground incursion into the country’s south.

Hezbollah has fired thousands of rockets into Israeli cities and towns, including some 250 on Sunday.

Thanksgiving turkey buttermilk bath turns skin ‘golden brown’

0

Darryl Postelnick, host of the “Cooking With Darryl” social media videos, has a secret weapon for the juiciest Thanksgiving turkey ever: a milk bath.

“The milk and the buttermilk together, they break down the proteins – or the proteins in there break down the turkey, get inside and really make it juicy,” Postelnick told Fox News Digital from his Illinois home. (See the video at the top of this article, and another video a few lines down.)

“This brine, I mean — I was able to literally cut the drumstick and the entire back came off with it, dripping with juice. It was awesome,” he said.

STATES WHERE THANKSGIVING TURKEYS COST THE MOST AND LEAST ARE REVEALED IN NEW STUDY

And even though the turkey was juicy, the skin was “golden brown” and crunchy – his favorite part.

“That’s what I love,” Postelnick said. “I think when you cut up a turkey, everyone should get some skin along with the meat.”

In addition to brining the turkey in milk, Postelnick stands by another unorthodox method for cooking his turkey: spatchcocking it.

Spatchcocking is the process of flattening a bird after removing the backbone.

RETAILERS ANNOUNCE ‘INFLATION-FREE’ THANKSGIVING DINNER DEALS

Spatchcocked turkeys cook faster and more evenly than a traditional turkey, Postelnick said, and require much less liquid to brine.

This step can be made even easier, he said, because “a butcher or someone at a grocery store will spatchcock it for you if you ask them.”

The whole recipe is “so easy,” he said.

Man in hat with book in background.

Darryl Postelnick, a dad and chef, told Fox News Digital how his buttermilk-brined turkey was “dripping with juice.”  (Fox News Digital)

“You get a quart of each [milk and buttermilk], put some salt in and put it in a bag — and you’re done,” he said. “I mean, you just leave it and wait.”

After the turkey sits overnight in the milk mixture, he advised patting it dry, adding butter or any additional seasonings — and then roasting it or grilling it.

“Having that tenderness, juiciness and the flavor that comes through, that was a winner for me,” he said.

2 cups combined turkey drippings and turkey or chicken stock

1 cup heavy cream

½ teaspoon kosher salt

Fresh ground pepper

Directions

1. In a large pot, bring milk to a simmer. Pour in salt, stir and let simmer until salt has dissolved, about two minutes. Let cool completely, then stir in buttermilk.

2. Place the turkey in a two-gallon resealable plastic bag. Pour in the milk brine, seal the bag, and squish around the brine to distribute evenly around the bird. Set bag in a roasting pan or other deep tray or pot and place in the fridge for 24-36 hours, turning occasionally.

Spatchcocking refers to the process of removing a bird’s backbone and then flattening it. The backbone can (and should) be saved to make stock. (iStock)

3. Remove turkey from bag and let excess brine drip off. Pat turkey dry with paper towels and place breast-side up in a roasting pan. Rub butter over the skin and let sit for 1 hour.

4. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Roast turkey until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh near the bone reads 165 degrees, about 1.5 to 2 hours. If breast is getting too dark toward the end of cooking, place a piece of tinfoil over top to shield it. While turkey rests, make gravy.

5. Drain turkey drippings from the roasting pan into a liquid measuring cup. Add stock to make 2 cups total.

6. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add flour and cook, whisking constantly, until flour mixture is fragrant and medium-dark brown. Pour in dripping mixture and whisk to combine. Bring this to a simmer, then add the cream. Bring to a simmer, lower heat, and cook five to 10 minutes, until gravy has thickened. Remove from heat and add salt and a few cranks of fresh ground pepper. Serve with turkey and other holiday sides.

Americans may want to pay close attention to their spouses this winter as Midwestern cities like Cincinnati and Minneapolis joined warm-weather party destinations as places where adultery is likely.

Controversial online dating service Ashley Madison, which caters to married people and uses the slogan “Life is short. Have an affair,” examines which cities have the most signups per capita across America on a regular basis. Ashley Madison chief strategy officer Paul Keable provided Fox News Digital with an exclusive look at the 20 cities across America that are ripe for winter affairs.

“It’s a really interesting time of the year as we walk into winter and what a lot of online daters like to refer to as ‘cuffing season,’ where you try to lock down a partner for the colder months. We at Ashley Madison wanted to take a look at our data to see where affairs are more likely to potentially happen this coming winter,” Ashley Madison chief strategy officer Paul Keable told Fox News Digital.

VALENTINE’S DAY DOESN’T REFLECT POPULARITY OF NON-MONOGAMY, ACCORDING TO ADULTERERS ON ASHLEY MADISON

Controversial online dating service Ashley Madison, which caters to married people and uses the slogan “Life is short. Have an affair,” examines which cities have the most signups per capita across America on a regular basis.

“What’s fascinating, the top hot spots for the cold nights are certainly in a lot of the warm weather spots with four of the top five places landing in Florida, including Miami, Orlando and Tampa. Incidentally, with Las Vegas dropping in at number three,” Keable added. “But when you drill down a little bit beyond the top five, you start to see that a lot of winter hot spots and possibly some après-ski areas are going to be the highlight of activity for a lot of online married daters this winter.”

Indeed, cold weather cities including Cincinnati, Minneapolis, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Denver have prominent placement on the scandalous list.

Top 20 U.S. hot spots for non-monogamy this winter, according to Ashley Madison:

  1. Miami
  2. Orlando
  3. Las Vegas
  4. Tampa
  5. Cincinnati
  6. Atlanta
  7. Minneapolis
  8. Richmond
  9. Buffalo
  10. Saint Paul
  11. Pittsburgh
  12. Spokane
  13. Cleveland
  14. Denver
  15. Baton Rouge
  16. Tuscon
  17. Reno
  18. Colorado Springs
  19. Bakersfield
  20. Aurora

Keable believes the findings prove “infidelity and adultery are ubiquitous across America,” and cheating could occur anywhere. He said members exist in every state in the country, across every ethnicity, religion and economic level.

“Cincinnati is a perfect encapsulation of why our business exists. It’s not a hotbed of traditional dating activity in the winter, people would assume because it’s colder weather, you’re going to get a lot of snow. But what it shows you is that typical middle America, average blue-collar people are looking for things outside of the traditional norms of monogamy,” Keable said.

“I think Cincinnati is a great representation of that. You know, it’s a good business city. You have some really top tier companies that operate out of there. But a lot of blue-collar workers,” he continued. “And what they’re saying to us and to the world is that maybe monogamy doesn’t work for everybody and we’re going to choose discretion and we’re going to choose Ashley Madison to fulfill what’s missing over the cold winter nights.”

ADULTERERS ON ASHLEY MADISON REVEAL WHAT THEY ARE FAITHFUL TO, 87% WOULD CHEAT ON THEIR PARTNER BEFORE TAXES

Ashley Madison

Colorado had three cities make the list, which doesn’t surprise Keable one bit.

“Colorado is a winter destination town and people don’t just hunker down there. They revel in winter life, and I think that creates a lot more opportunities to have adultery-type activities or not traditional or nontraditional non-monogamy activities,” he said.

Ashley Madison also released a report, “Lifting the Veil on Infidelity,” which explores the thoughts of people seeking non-monogamous relationships.

“What we really have found is both men and women are seeking intimate physical relationships as their primary rationale around joining a site like Ashley Madison. It’s not necessarily just for the excitement or the scandal,” Keable said.

In addition to “reasons for infidelity,” the study also explores rates of people willing to forgive their significant other for straying, the influence of pop culture and a “shift in shame” surrounding infidelity.

According to Ashley Madison, the data reveals “greater acceptance towards infidelity is occurring not only with Ashley Madison members, but among the general population as well.”

Young woman and man holding their hands behind the seat

A variety of Midwestern cities joined warm-weather party destinations as places where adultery is likely, according to Ashley Madison.  (iStock)

Keable offered advice to any men who are troubled by the findings.

“You partner, if she is going out on Friday and Saturday nights without you, and you think she’s with her girlfriends, maybe you want to check on that. And maybe more importantly, have a conversation with her about are her bedroom needs being met? Because that is why women are looking to have partners outside of their marriage,” he said.

“They don’t necessarily dislike their partner. In fact, they often will tell us they love their family. They love their husband, but they’re unwilling to compromise on an unfulfilling sex life,” Keable continued. “So, if you don’t want your wife joining Ashley Madison, not only should you ask her what she wants in the bedroom, you better figure out a way to deliver in a way that satisfies her needs more often than not.”

Fighter pilot, decorated combat veteran Jeff Witt announces bid to fill Florida House seat vacated by Gaetz

0

FIRST ON FOX: Fighter pilot and decorated combat veteran Jeff Witt announced Monday he is entering the race to fill former Rep. Matt Gaetz’s seat representing Florida’s 1st congressional district as a Republican who vows to “fight to get inflation under control, secure our borders, and strengthen our military,” while working with fellow GOP lawmakers to pass President Trump’s “America First” agenda, Fox News Digital has learned.

Witt, 38, is a two-time graduate of Harvard University, a businessman, decorated Afghanistan War veteran, F-35 fighter pilot and instructor with more than a dozen years of military service. Witt flew 82 combat missions in Operation Enduring Freedom.

MATT GAETZ SAYS HE WILL NOT SERVE IN THE UPCOMING SESSION OF CONGRESS

Witt is currently serving as a policy advisor on the Trump-Vance Presidential Transition Team.

“I have served my country in uniform for 14 years, and my dedication to service extends to the community in which my family and I live,” Witt told Fox News Digital. “I am excited to meet voters from all across the district in this campaign, and prove to them that they can trust me to be a leader in Congress who represents them with conviction, hard work, and integrity.”

Witt told Fox News Digital that he will “fight to get inflation under control, secure our borders, and strengthen our military.”

Jeff and his wife Courtney are the proud parents of four young children – Joan (6), Kirby (5), Grace (3), and Charlie (8 mos).

“I will listen to the needs of my constituents, and I will work on their behalf to make Florida’s 1st District the finest place in America for veterans, businesses, and families,” he said.

MATT GAETZ RESIGNS FROM CONGRESS OVER TRUMP NOD TO BE ATTORNEY GENERAL, JOHNSON SAYS

Witt and his wife Courtney are parents of four young children, Joan, 6; Kirby, 5; Grace, 3; and Charlie, 8 months old. The Witt family resides in Niceville, Fla., where he is an active member of his church and teaches his children’s Sunday school.

Witt attended Harvard University for his undergraduate studies and was a Harvard football quarterback. He also received his Master of Business Administration from Harvard University.

A 2024 Club for Growth fellow, Witt has already been endorsed by top former Trump administration officials, including former Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert Wilkie.

“Jeff Witt is a patriot and a staunch supporter of President Trump and his America First agenda,” Wilkie told Fox News Digital. “As the former Secretary of Veterans Affairs under President Trump, I know that Jeff’s mission will always be to put warriors first. I am honored to give Jeff my full endorsement.”

Wilkie told Fox News Digital that Witt “stands for the right things—family and freedom.”

GAETZ WITHDRAWS AS ATTORNEY GENERAL NOMINEE

“There will be no one better than Jeff Witt to represent Florida’s 1st Congressional District,” former director of the Air National Guard Lt. Gen. (ret.) Stanley Clarke told Fox News Digital.

Witt served under Clarke, who praised him as “an amazing father, husband, and officer who has dedicated his life to serving this great country.”

“A true American patriot who will serve Americans with honor and distinction,” Clarke said of Witt.

Witt’s campaign comes after Trump tapped Gaetz as his attorney general to lead the Justice Department in his second term.

Gaetz had represented Florida’s 1st congressional district from January 2017 until earlier this month, when he resigned from his post upon receiving the nomination for attorney general.

Born in Orlando, Witt now resides with his family in Niceville. Witt is a Christian and an active member of his church, where he teaches children’s Sunday school.

Gaetz withdrew his name from consideration for attorney general on Thursday, saying his confirmation process was “unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump-Vance transition.”

Gaetz resigned from his seat representing Florida’s 1st Congressional District earlier this month when President Trump nominated him to serve as attorney general. Gaetz has since withdrawn his name from consideration to lead the Justice Department, but said Friday he would not attempt to return to Congress.

Witt joins a growing Republican primary field of candidates vying for the seat, including Florida State Sen. Michelle Salzman, Dr. Joel Rudman; Keith Gross and John Frankman; Bernadette Pittman; and former federal government official and teacher Kevin Gaffney.

The date for the special election has yet to be set.

Witt is the brother of Patrick Witt, a member of the Trump Transition team who ran for statewide office in Georgia in 2022 with the endorsement of President Trump. Patrick Witt also served in the first Trump administration as deputy chief of staff in the Office of Personnel Management.

Traveling with these Thanksgiving food items could get you stopped by TSA at airport

0

You technically might be able to go through TSA with a whole stuffed turkey, but there are other side dishes that won’t make it into the terminal with you.

As you make your way home after Thanksgiving celebrations, be mindful of the leftover goods you have in tow, since many are not TSA friendly.

The role of cooking also may not always be left to the host, which means some travelers might take it upon themselves to assist in the flavorful festivities by bringing some dishes with them on their flight.

AIRLINE TRAVELER GOES VIRAL FOR MIXING COCKTAIL BEFORE BOARDING A PLANE: IS IT LEGAL?

“Our rule of thumb is that if you can spread it, spill it, spray it, pour it or pump it, then it should be in checked bags because the 3-1-1 liquids, gels and aerosols rule still very much applies for carry-on items,” a TSA representative told Fox News Digital.

TSA security check-in at airport

Whether you are arriving with some extra ingredients or bringing back your favorite leftovers, TSA has specific rules about what food can fly with you. (iStock)

“Those items that are frozen solid at the time of the airport security checkpoint can travel without any issues or delays,” the spokesperson added.

The Points Guys, a New York-based travel blogger, wrote online that whole turkeys have been seen going through checkpoints.

‘AIRPORT TRAY AESTHETIC’ GOES VIRAL AS SOME TRAVELERS HALT SECURITY CHECKPOINTS FOR PHOTO OPS

TSA’s 3-1-1 rule means that all liquid containers must be 3.4 ounces, and you can only bring aboard what fits in one, 1-quart bag.

women preparing thanksgiving

Make sure you know what ingredients for your Thanksgiving feast can be stored in your carry-on bag and what must be checked before heading to the airport. (iStock)

This means that solids such as cakes, pies, stuffing, potatoes or fresh green beans are all able to pass through security.

Even an oven-roasted or frozen turkey from the grocery store could get through the checkpoint, but it is important to think about how you need to store something that large and what specific additives you will need, including ice packs that will stay frozen when going through TSA.

TSA suggests separating food items from your luggage when entering security checkpoints in case the items need to be inspected.

ARIZONA FLIGHT PASSENGER GOES VIRAL AFTER LEAVING UNMARKED POWDERY SUBSTANCE IN LUGGAGE, TSA INSPECTS HER BAGS

“Food items often need some additional security screening, so it is best to place those items in an easily accessible location of the carry-on when packing them and then removing those items from your bag and placing them in a bin for screening at the checkpoint,” TSA officials wrote in a press release.

Thanksgiving carry-on safe foods for TSA

TSA’s 3-1-1 rule is important to follow, but you must also consider that “if you can spread it, spill it, spray it, pour it or pump it,” you should avoid bringing it in a carry-on bag. (TSA)

Thanksgiving foods that can be carried through a TSA checkpoint

  • Baked goods (homemade or store-bought pies, cakes, cookies, brownies and other sweet treats)
  • Meats (frozen, cooked or uncooked turkey, chicken, ham, steak)
  • Stuffing (cooked, uncooked, in a box or in a bag)
  • Casseroles (fresh green beans and onion straws or something more exotic)
  • Mac and cheese (cooked in a pan or traveling with the ingredients to cook it at your destination)
  • Fresh vegetables (potatoes, yams, broccoli, green beans, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, beets, radishes, carrots, squash, greens)
  • Fresh fruit (apples, pears, pineapple, lemons, limes, cranberries, blueberries, strawberries, bananas, kiwi)
  • Candy
  • Spices

While some ingredients easily pass the 3-1-1 rule or solids that pose little threat to getting pulled by TSA, there are other ingredients and side dishes that clearly land on the “do not fly” list.

Canned vegetables and fruits or canned soups, a common ingredient for green bean casserole, must be stowed in a checked bag.

Other ingredients such as gravies, cranberry sauce, jams, etc., that are considered “spreadable,” must be checked and cannot go on the plane in carry-on luggage.

Thanksgiving foods that should be carefully packed in your luggage

  • Cranberry sauce (homemade or canned is spreadable)
  • Gravy (homemade or in a jar or can)
  • Wine, champagne, sparkling apple cider
  • Canned fruit or vegetables (liquid in the can)
  • Preserves, jams and jellies (spreadable)
  • Maple syrup

After making note of what you can pack in your carry-on or checked bag, the best thing you can do is help TSA security run smoothly in an effort to prevent any delays on one of the busiest days of the year in the air.

“It does seem as though this is the time of year that Transportation Security Officers see it all with foods coming through checkpoints and headed to far away tables, so there really are few surprises for those who have been on the job for a couple of Thanksgiving holidays,” the TSA representative added.

The TSA expects a record air travel season this Thanksgiving, according to TSA.gov.

“TSA is projected to screen 18.3 million people from Tuesday, Nov. 26 to Monday, Dec. 2, representing a volume increase of approximately 6 percent from this time last year,” TSA’s website says.

The College Football Playoff landscape was shaken up on Saturday with three top 10 teams falling to lower-ranked opponents, while three more in the top 15 also lost.

The SEC was the biggest conference to take a hit. No. 7 Alabama, No. 9 Ole Miss and No. 15 Texas A&M suffered losses to unranked teams. No. 5 Indiana, which had been writing a terrific Cinderella story, completely folded when going up against No. 2 Ohio State.

So, the question was: Who were the teams that were essentially locks for the College Football Playoff? The only answer could be No. 1 Oregon. The Ducks had the weekend off and already clinched a spot in the Big Ten Conference Championship.

The 11 other spots appeared to be up for grabs.

Which teams went home winners, and which teams went home losers? Let’s break it down here.

Arizona State: How about those Sun Devils? Head coach Kenny Dillingham has Arizona State sitting in a tiebreaker for the Big 12 conference, but they control their own destiny after beating BYU on Saturday in what was a wild final minute of action. The biggest takeaway is that with Colorado losing, this sets up a massive final weekend in the conference, and Arizona State is one win away from playing for a title and a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Tennessee: Yes, the Vols beat UTEP on Saturday in what was not much of a football game. But it was what happened around them in the SEC that now has Tennessee in a prime spot for a playoff spot. With Ole Miss and Alabama both being upset on Saturday, a path opened for Josh Heupel’s team to clinch a playoff berth next weekend against Vanderbilt. Just when you thought things wouldn’t go their way, the Vols are now sitting pretty.

Florida: Since the school came out and said head coach Billy Napier is going to stay for next season, the Gators have done something they haven’t done since 2003: They beat a ranked opponent as an unranked opponent for the second straight game. The Gators picked off Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart three times in the win, playing spoiler and delivering a crushing blow to the Rebels’ playoff hopes.

Notre Dame: Notre Dame is doing exactly what they are supposed to do, and the stink from their loss to Northern Illinois is gone. They went to a neutral field against a ranked Army team and ran them out of the building. Who knows if they can hang with Oregon, Ohio State and Texas, but they are rightfully within the top five. Oh, and how cool was it to see a Jeter back in the Bronx?

Nebraska: Taking down Wisconsin, 44-25, finally gave Nebraska its elusive sixth win under Matt Rhule. The midseason addition of offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen has transformed the Cornhuskers’ offense.

Oklahoma celebrates

Oklahoma coach Brent Venables celebrates with fans after a college football game against Alabama in Norman, Okla., Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024. (BRYAN TERRY/THE OKLAHOMAN/USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images)

Brent Venables: It’s been a tough couple of weeks for Oklahoma Sooners head coach Brent Venables. He revealed his wife was battling cancer again as the season seemed to have slipped away. He finally got a win with a big upset over Alabama. The Sooners are 6-5 this season.

Losers

Colorado: Well, Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes blew their opportunity at playing for the Big 12 championship. Sure, there are a few weird scenarios that could get them in, but the loss to Kansas all but confirms that the Colorado run has come to an end. The only good part about the game against the Jayhawks was Travis Hunter, who looks to have solidified the Heisman Trophy, in my opinion.

Ole Miss: If the Rebels had won out, they would be all but assured a spot in the College Football Playoffs. With their 24-17 loss to Florida, now they need nothing short of a miracle to make it. Jaxson Dart hadn’t thrown more than one interception in a game over the last two seasons prior to Saturday, when he threw three interceptions. Two of his interceptions came in the final two minutes of the game, sealing the Rebels’ fate.

Rutgers: A timeout that will live in infamy cost Rutgers a chance at its first win vs. a ranked opponent since 2009. The Scarlet Knights are bowl bound regardless, but it will be a senior day the program never gets back.

Greg Schiano glum

Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano looks on during the first half against Illinois, Nov. 23, 2024, in Piscataway, N.J. (Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images)

North Carolina: The Tar Heels were humiliated by Boston College, and even a pair of late meaningless touchdowns didn’t make it much prettier after falling behind 41-7.

The SEC: Things went sideways for the conference in a wild way on Saturday. Ole Miss losing to Florida was thought to be the only madness we’d see this past weekend, but Alabama decided to join the party of losing a spot in the College Football Playoff by getting drilled by Oklahoma. Then, Texas A&M was beaten by Auburn in four overtimes, which has caused full-blown chaos in the conference. Georgia clinched a spot in the SEC championship, and the winner of Texas vs. Texas A&M will face the Bulldogs in Atlanta. But what happens if the Aggies win this weekend, then upset Georgia in Atlanta? We can only imagine.

Texas influencer sentenced to 10 years in prison for murder-for-hire plot

0

A Dallas, Texas, woman who runs an online business was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison following her conviction in a murder-for-hire plot.

Ashley Grayson, 35, ran an internet-based business and gained notoriety from her online presence, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Tennessee.

Grayson described herself on her Instagram account as a bestseller, eight-figure business coach, course creator and philanthropist.

In 2021, Grayson had a falling out with a woman from Southaven, Mississippi, who had an online business similar to her own. This woman was the target of the murder-for-hire plot.

Grayson believed the woman had been creating fake online profiles that criticized her and her business, although the two women never met in person.

Then, in August 2022, Grayson asked a Memphis woman, whom she had worked with in the past, to fly to Dallas to discuss a “business opportunity.”

The Memphis woman and her husband arrived in Dallas the following month and met with Grayson and her husband, Joshua.

Grayson offered to pay the Memphis couple to kill the Southaven woman, Grayson’s former boyfriend and a Texas woman who had recently made social media posts criticizing Grayson. She offered to pay at least $20,000 for each killing.

On Sept. 10, 2022, the Memphis woman recorded a video call in which Grayson confirmed that she wanted the Southaven woman killed as soon as possible and even offered an additional $5,000 for the killing to be finished in the next week.

The Memphis couple later sent Grayson a picture of police lights from an unrelated incident in Memphis to make it appear as if they had unsuccessfully attempted to carry out the killings. The couple demanded $10,000, or half of the promised amount, from Grayson. The Memphis couple then went to Dallas and met with Grayson and her husband and collected $10,000 from them for the “attempt.”

In July 2023, a grand jury in Tennessee indicted Grayson and her husband for use of an interstate facility in commission of murder-for-hire. The case went to trial in March of this year, when a jury found Grayson guilty but acquitted her husband.

Last month, Grayson was sentenced to 120 months in prison, the maximum sentence permitted for her crime, and three years of supervised release. She will not be eligible for parole since this was a federal case.

“This was a twenty-first century crime where online feuds and senseless rivalries bled into the real world,” Acting U.S. Attorney Reagan Fondren said in a statement. “The defendant tried to hire someone to murder a woman over things that happened exclusively on the internet.”

“Fortunately, no one was physically hurt in this case, but the victim and her family still felt a severe and emotional impact as the result of the defendant’s actions,” the statement continued. “The proactive response from the investigating agencies and our prosecutors prevented an even more serious crime from occurring.”

Judge rejects 2nd Amendment argument from illegal immigrant living in Ohio

0

A federal judge denied a request to dismiss a gun charge against an illegal immigrant in Ohio who had been in the U.S. for more than 15 years, rejecting the man’s argument that he has a right to bear arms.

Carlos Serrano-Restrepo was charged earlier this year and was subsequently indicted for possession of a firearm by an alien unlawfully in the U.S., according to WSYX.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives began investigating and watching Serrano-Restrepo after he purchased at least 22 firearms, and claimed to be a U.S. citizen on the firearms forms.

Agents conducted a search of his home and seized roughly 170 firearms, tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition and smoke/marine markers.

Serrano-Restrepo said some of the guns were purchased for self-defense.

Photos that agents took at his home revealed he kept firearms in gun safes. Some handguns were also mounted in holsters on the wall of a closet.

The suspect’s lawyer submitted a motion to dismiss the charge on the argument that he has the right to bear arms under the Second Amendment.

The judge denied his motion to dismiss the charge on Thursday, writing in his opinion that “disarming unlawful immigrants like Mr. Serrano-Restrepo who have not sworn allegiance to the United States comports with the Nation’s history and tradition of firearm regulations.”

“Mr. Serrano-Restrepo’s as-applied challenge lacks merit,” the judge continued. “The swearing of an oath of allegiance occurs through the naturalization process, not through his asylum application or his years of living in the United States.”

He also owns a business that remediates fire and flooding damage.

0

Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley entered the record books with his performance in a 37-20 over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night.

He was four yards away from passing Jamaal Charles, who had 259 rushing yards in a single game. Adrian Peterson has the record with 296 yards.

Barkley, who has had a resurgence this season, was the sparkplug Philadelphia needed. He ran for a 70-yard touchdown to jumpstart the team coming out of halftime.

He put the exclamation point on the game in the fourth quarter. He received the hand off from Hurts, made a move and zoomed through the Rams’ secondary for 72 yards.

Barkley also had four catches for 47 yards.

Kenneth Gainwell added a touchdown of his own late in the third to add to their lead.

Jalen Hurts was 15-of-22 for 179 yards and had a touchdown pass to A.J. Brown. The star wide receiver had six catches for 109 yards.

Los Angeles was within six points of the lead after Matthew Stafford threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Demarcus Robinson with 10:51 left in the third quarter. But after the Gainwell touchdown, the Rams missed a field goal on their next drive and punted after that.

Stafford threw a garbage-time touchdown to Cooper Kupp but the offense was far from what it needed to be to compete against the high-octane offense of the Eagles. They had no answer for Barkley.

The veteran quarterback had 243 passing yards on 24-of-36 passing. Puka Nacua led the team with nine catches for 117 yards. It’s the second straight game Nacua was over 100 yards receiving.

The Eagles (9-2) increased their NFC East lead over the Washington Commanders, moving two wins over them in the win column. The Commanders fell to the Dallas Cowboys in a barnburner earlier in the day.
