Laura Ingraham: We’ve seen this ‘spending charade’ before

0

Fox News host Laura Ingraham unpacks the debate over the interim spending bill “teeming with nonessential junk” on “The Ingraham Angle.”

LAURA INGRAHAM: As I just said, we’ve seen this spending charade before, and the D.C. corrupt-a-crats — they usually win.

But let’s look at the good side tonight: The swamp creatures — they always scatter and scream when they’re under a spotlight — may not actually win this time.

I think the swamp has to have forgotten along the way that Donald Trump and DOGE, his crew, could actually read the bill.

They were betting on everyone just wanting to rush to the doors for Christmas, but what happened was social media — as Elon Musk noted tonight — social media was used for its best purpose, to reveal the truth to the American people.

In this case, the horrors that Chip Roy was talking about within that bill. It was teeming with nonessential junk.

Ex-NFL star Adrian Peterson has warrants out for arrest: report

0

Adrian Peterson is in legal trouble again.

The 2012 NFL MVP has warrants out for his arrest, according to USA Today, for failing to appear in court for two different child support cases.

The warrants were issued in Fort Bend County in Texas, USA Today reported. Its sheriff’s department did not immediately confirm this information to Fox News Digital.

“The current legal case is related to a misunderstanding regarding Adrian’s court appearances as it relates to child support, and he is actively working with his legal team to resolve this matter as quickly as possible,” his publicist, Denise White, said in a statement to USA Today. “He is committed to clearing up this situation and moving forward positively.”

Despite earning over $100 million in his career, the former Minnesota Vikings running back has also been in trouble with bank loans. Court records in February said Peterson had not paid any of the $8.3 million he owed to DeAngelo Vehicle Sales LLC, which he was ordered to pay over three years earlier. He was ordered to pay a creditor $2.4 million in 2019 and had to pay a Minnesota bank the year prior.

Peterson missed all but one game in the 2014 season after his indictment on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child. He pleaded no contest to assaulting his son, 4 years old at the time, with a tree branch.

In 2022, Peterson was arrested after an incident with his wife on a plane. But his wife said it was only an argument, and charges were dropped.

Peterson rushed for 14,918 yards in his career, leading the league in rushing three times. He’s one of six running backs to rush for 2,000 yards in a season and was eight yards shy of breaking Eric Dickerson’s single-season record in 2012.

Virginia man arrested for alleged planned attack on Israel NYC consulate

0

An Egyptian man living in Virginia who was slated to be deported has been charged with planning an attack on the Israeli consulate in New York City.

Abdullah Azz al-Din Taha Muhammad Hassan allegedly provided bomb-making instructions and plans on how to attack the Manhattan consulate to an undercover FBI source, according to court documents. He was arrested Tuesday, the FBI told Fox News Digital.

Hassan is charged with distribution of information relating to explosives, destructive devices and weapons of mass destruction in furtherance of the commission of a federal crime.

“The FBI’s New York Office wants to reassure our Jewish community here in New York that our office — along with our law enforcement partners — remains vigilant in our efforts to identify, investigate and disrupt potential threats to our community, using every tool at our disposal to do so. As always, we urge all community members to report suspicious activity to law enforcement and call 911 in cases of imminent violence or threats to life,” the FBI said in a statement.

“We will continue working to ensure our communities remain safe places for all, and we thank the public for their continued trust and partnership.”

US GROUP LOOKS FOR KIDNAPPED AMERICANS IN SYRIA AFTER FALL OF ASSAD REGIME

Hassan caught the FBI’s attention after the Fairfax County Police Department informed federal authorities that a tipster alerted police about his social media posts on X. The tipster said the account engaged in “radical and terrorist-leaning behavior.”

In several posts, Hassan praised the Islamic State terror group and other radical figures, federal prosecutors said. In August, he began messaging with an FBI confidential source whom he believed he recruited to conduct a “mass casualty attack,” authorities said.

Over several weeks, Hassan directed the informant on how to make a bomb, acquire weapons and how to make a “martyrdom video,” authorities said. In November, he allegedly selected the Consulate General of Israel as the target of the attack, saying it would be easier to commit an attack using small arms and be “martyred” by the police.

He believed New York would be “a gold mine of targets” for an attack, prosecutors said. As the pair planned the attack, Hassan also allegedly told him to book flights to countries without extradition agreements with the United States. During the attack, Hassan said the source could either murder people at the consulate with an assault rifle or detonate an explosive vest while standing in a group of targets, court documents state.

ISRAEL’S UN AMBASSADOR INSISTS NATION IS ‘NOT GETTING INVOLVED’ IN SYRIAN REGIME CHANGE

Hassan also asked for the source to livestream the attack so he could watch it in real time, authorities said.

In a statement, Jonathan Harounoff, the international spokesperson for Israel’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, said the Jewish state “will not cower to terror.”

“We will not be silent in the face of hate and violence,” he said. “We will not stop in our pursuit of justice and peace. We will continue in our fight to return all 100 of our hostages still being held in Hamas terror tunnels in Gaza.”

Ofir Akunis, Israel’s consul general in New York, expressed gratitude to authorities for thwarting the alleged attack.

“This attempted attack by terror organizations is an attack on the sovereign soil of the State of Israel in its entirety,” he wrote on X. “It’s proof that terror knows no boundaries and that we must fight it everywhere and every time. The threat it poses to the western world and its values must be fought together by all western democracies alike. Together we will prevail.”

JESSE WATTERS: Democrats found out they weren’t going to get a raise and they started ‘chanting’

0

Jesse Watters explains how Congress’s reevaluated spending bill brought the number of pages from 1,547 pages to 116, yet it was still struck down by House members on “Jesse Watters Primetime.”

TRUMP-BACKED SPENDING BILL TO AVERT GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN FAILS HOUSE VOTE

JESSE WATTERS: Let me tell you a little story about Washington. In case you missed it, this is what’s been happening in the last 24 hours. The 1500 page spending bill that Congress tried to jam in yesterday just got hacked down to 116 pages. Congress just cut 1400 pages of spending. I’ve never witnessed that before. I’ve been doing this for over 20 years.

The $15 million to make recycling more accessible. That’s gone. The 12 bio-labs, VAX mandates, gain-of-function, gone. The law that puts them above the law.

But they did keep the $3 million to inspect the molasses inspectors. Nothing’s worse than bad molasses, can’t take that risk. Huge loss for the molasses lobby. Big molasses, not happy. Either way, it was a big win for Trump and DOGE and this is the best Congress is going to do.

Donald Trump/Elon Musk

When Democrats found out the news that they weren’t going to get a raise and they weren’t going to be able to opt out of Obamacare, they started chanting, “Hell no!” inside of their little meeting room. Yeah, they’re chanting when they don’t get their way, they’re chanting. Grown-ups are chanting.

The Trump team says it’s the new playbook. We don’t have to wait that long to figure out what’s in these secret spending bills anymore. We can read it on the Internet, and Musk can use his megaphone to blast out what’s in it.

The American people don’t have to be held hostage anymore to backroom deals the week before Christmas. Taxpayers shouldn’t get stuck up and have our money wasted on donor pet projects so politicians can get reelected. We’re catching these shady politicians in the act now.

Nick Jonas faces fan backlash over social media post responding to Elon Musk

0

Singer-songwriter Nick Jonas stirred reactions for what many X users interpreted as support for Elon Musk, after posting a picture of the multi-billionaire entrepreneur and incoming DOGE co-chair along with the caption, “Take us to the Year 3000.”

The apparent play on a 2006 Jonas Brothers hit song came in response to Musk commenting on an older GIF featuring the band rotating a coffee table with the caption “My, how the tables have turned” in reference Musk made to a story about Tesla’s success since President-elect Donald Trump’s win.

The presumption of support for Musk drew ire from many on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, though Jonas never explicitly voiced support for Musk’s ideas.

“I hope one day your daughter meets a man who treats her like Elon and the rest of his friends treat women. Let’s see how supportive you are then,” one critic wrote.

Another X user posted a screenshot from her device, showing Musk’s X account was blocked, but Jonas’ response to his tweet was visible.

“I’ll have to block you too, sorry,” she wrote.

A third commentor demanded that Jonas delete the post “now,” writing, “this man is horrible and even if this was meant as just a joke, it’s not funny.”

Widespread remarks similarly called for Jonas to take down the post or reflect on how his response to Musk impacted his fans.

An overwhelming number of X users rushed to Jonas’ defense, slamming the critics for overreacting, reading between the lines and feeding into cancel culture. Even some who dislike Elon Musk came to his defense.

One X user wrote, “You can think Elon has good ideas and is a visionary AND still disagree with him sometimes same with Trump., They both used to be democrats. Maybe we should all collectively chill and stop being so polarizing.”

Another commenter cited the wave of criticism as evidence of “why Trump won.”

“They’ll try to mob and guilt you for something as simple as tweeting at Elon. The left is so far gone and out of their minds,” they added.

A third chimed in with, “Amazing how many people are legit offended by this post. No one got emotional about Elon talking to Cenk Uygur, or replying to John Fetterman. Do y’all ever consider that you act a lot like zealots in a cult?”

RAND PAUL SUGGESTS REPLACING MIKE JOHNSON WITH ELON MUSK AS SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE

Sources close to Jonas reportedly told the Daily Mail, “Nick is not going to waver from his post on Elon Musk nor will he double down, and doesn’t plan on deleting it. He thinks many are taking things a little overboard in how they are reacting to it all… For Nick, there are a lot more important things to worry about than dealing with online trolls over what he thought was a fun and non-drama filled post.”

“Support or not, Nick was trying to be clever over making some type of statement or announcement of support, but on the internet, you can’t do anything without getting attacked. This will pass and Nick has already moved on from whatever controversy this somehow has made.”

Fox News Digital reached out to a representative for Jonas for comment but did not receive a response in time for publication.

Biden carried out the highest level of deportations since 2014, new report says – Boston News, Weather, Sports

0

(CNN) — US Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported 271,484 immigrants last fiscal year, marking the highest level of deportations since 2014, according to a newly released annual report.

President-elect Donald Trump plans to make mass deportation a cornerstone of his incoming administration, rebuking President Joe Biden’s handling of immigration policy.

But the latest ICE data reveals that the Biden administration carried out a significant number of removals last fiscal year, exceeding the previous two years of Biden’s presidency, and largely focused on public safety and national security threats.

Many of the deportations were of people who crossed the US-Mexico border illegally, reflecting the challenge Biden administration officials grappled with along the southern border amid record migration across the globe. ICE removed people to nearly 200 different countries, the report shows. It covers October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024.

“Throughout the year, the agency was called on to do more without commensurate funding, working within the confines of strained resources and competing priorities while steadfastly supporting the Department of Homeland Security and its component agencies in their efforts to secure the border,” acting ICE Director Patrick Lechleitner said in the report.

As Trump aides tout plans to detain and deport undocumented immigrants at large scale, they are also bracing to face what Biden and his predecessors grappled with in one of the key immigration agencies: limited resources and personnel.

Tom Homan, who Trump has tapped as his incoming administration’s “border czar,” said Wednesday that he’ll need funding from Congress to bolster the agency’s resources and fulfill the president-elect’s deportation promise.

In an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, Homan said he would need a minimum of 100,000 beds to detain undocumented immigrants – more than doubling the 40,000 detention beds ICE is currently funded for – and require more ICE agents. The agency has around 6,000 immigration enforcement officers.

“We want to arrest as many people as we can that are in the country illegally,” Homan said on “The Source” Wednesday.

Under Biden, ICE rolled out guidelines that would curtail enforcement measures to focus more narrowly on immigrants who pose a national security, border security or public safety risk. Homan has also said he plans to carry out targeted operations focused on public safety and national security threats but left the door open to picking up other undocumented immigrants who may be encountered.

ICE’s latest report reveals that of the 271,484 removals carried out last fiscal year, around 32% of those were people with criminal histories. ICE’s enforcement and removal branch also arrested 113,431 immigrants, down from the previous year. Of those, 81,312 were convicted criminals or had pending criminal charges at the time of arrest.

There are around 1.4 million people in the US with final orders of removal. But many of them can’t be sent back to their home countries because they won’t take them or there’s still some sort of potential relief available to them through the immigration system.

The agency managed more than 7.6 million immigrants in removal proceedings or subject to final orders of removal on what’s known as the non-detained docket, according to ICE’s report, meaning they are not currently in ICE custody and are still going through the immigration process.

Former President Barack Obama deported around 400,000 in one year, but a large number of those were recent border crossers. Trump faces a steeper challenge in targeting those already in the country.

“There’s a difference between arresting people and deporting people. We’ve been focused on ICE’s ability to arrest people, but unless they make a significant change in the immigration process, the act to get somebody deported does require some form of process,” a former Homeland Security official previously told CNN.

Other factors that drove the higher number of removals under Biden included country negotiations to ratchet up the number of accepted removal flights, as well as diplomatic efforts with countries in the eastern hemisphere like China.

DNC fundraiser Lindy Li tore into Democrats’ “delusions” about a Kamala Harris political comeback on Thursday, amid party buzz of the vice president staging a 2026 gubernatorial or 2028 presidential run.

“This is not what America wants. November 5th was a decisive defeat for the Democratic Party. She lost every single swing state. It wasn’t a squeaker like it was in 2016. This was a resounding defeat and, right now, Kamala Harris is indulging in delusions of running for governor of California, possibly in 2026 or even president again in 2028. America has said, ‘We don’t want to be coconut-pilled. We do not want Kamala Harris. We don’t want failed border policies,’ and I feel like I’m liberated, and I can finally tell the truth that the Democrats completely failed on the border,” Li said on “America’s Newsroom.”

Li’s rebuke comes after DNC Executive Board member Yvette Lewis said Wednesday she would be “on board 100 percent” with whatever Harris decides to do in the future, calling her a “phenomenal candidate” despite her crushing Electoral College loss to President-elect Trump.

HARRIS PAID OPRAH $1 MILLION IN FAILED BID TO HELP CAMPAIGN: REPORT

Li told Bill Hemmer she has been ostracized by fellow Democrats for speaking out about the state of the party after the election, particularly citing the moment she said the Democratic Party was plagued by the “stench of loser.”

“I lost tens of thousands of followers because I dared to tell the truth. Because in a cult, you can’t tell the truth. You can’t ask any questions, but I’m done with that,” she said.

“I’m probably going to get canceled again for what I am about to say — men are men and women are women, and it’s an issue when men are trouncing women in women’s sports. This should not be a controversial take. This is common sense, and the American people understand that the Democratic Party, they exist in their ivory towers that are so far removed from reality, and these ridiculous [culture] wars are not what Americans care about.”

ADAM SCHIFF SAYS ‘ENTIRE DEMOCRATIC PARTY’ BEARS THE BLAME FOR HARRIS LOSS: ‘MYSELF INCLUDED’

Democrats are now working to recalibrate and assess what went wrong during the 2024 election cycle. Many members of the party, like Li, have blamed “out of touch” messaging for the loss.

“We care about bread and butter issues. We care about putting food on the table, sending our kids to school, strong borders, not having millions of people rush to the border, and I’m a naturalized immigrant myself. Just because you care about these issues doesn’t make you a sexist, racist,” she said.

Some former aides say that Harris has limited time and political capital to decide whether she wants to run for office again.

“She doesn’t have to decide if she wants to run for something again in the next six months,” one former Harris campaign aide told Politico. “The natural thing to do would be to set up some type of entity that would give her the opportunity to travel and give speeches and preserve her political relationships.”

“There will be a desire to hear her voice, and there won’t be a vacuum for long,” a person close to Harris reportedly said.

Fani Willis’ reputation ‘damaged’ after disqualification from Trump case

0

Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Greg Bluestein told MSNBC on Thursday that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’s reputation was “damaged” after a court disqualified her and her office from prosecuting President-elect Donald Trump in the election interference case against him.

“Her reputation is damaged, right? This was an unforced error as we said earlier, and, you know, this was all of her own doing, and now it unravels or might unravel one of the signature cases, not just of her career, but in Georgia. It leaves her damaged and it will be interesting to see what case she tries to make when she is expected to appeal this to the Georgia Supreme Court,” Bluestein told MSNBC’s Ana Caberra when asked about what was next for Willis.

The Georgia Court of Appeals on Thursday disqualified Willis and her team from prosecuting Trump and co-defendants in her election interference case. The court did not toss the indictment but declared that Willis and her team now have “no authority to proceed.”

Bluestein noted that Willis had just won re-election in Georgia and that it wasn’t a surprise because Fulton County is a Democratic stronghold.

FANI WILLIS FACES NOTHING BUT SETBACKS IN CASE AGAINST TRUMP, THE LATEST PENDING WITH SUPREME COURT

“After carefully considering the trial court’s findings in its order, we conclude that it erred by failing to disqualify DA Willis and her office,” the filing states. “The remedy crafted by the trial court to prevent an ongoing appearance of impropriety did nothing to address the appearance of impropriety that existed at times when DA Willis was exercising her broad pretrial discretion about who to prosecute and what charges to bring.”

Bluestein said, “It is expected to be appealed to the Georgia Supreme Court, but this is a really decisive order against Fani Willis being able to continue this case.”

Willis, who was spearheading the sweeping prosection case against Trump, came under fire after she was accused in February of having an “improper” affair with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, whom she had hired to help prosecute the case.

Wade was ultimately forced to step down from the prosecution team.

JUDGE RULES FANI WILLIS MUST STEP ASIDE FROM TRUMP CASE OR FIRE SPECIAL PROSECUTOR NATHAN WADE

In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Trump said the “whole case has been a disgrace to justice.”

Trump additionally said that the case “should not be allowed to go any further.”

Catherine Christian, a former assistant Manhattan district attorney, also weighed in on the disqualification on MSNBC.

“But usually appellate courts defer to the lower court, the trial judge, who fashioned a remedy. He said Nathan Wade, the man she was having an affair with, had to leave so the office could stay, and this court has said, nope. This court said that Judge MacAfee did not really appreciate that her decision-making wasn’t just the indictment. It was who to charge, how to charge it, and that’s at the time when this alleged romantic relationship was going on, and they said that also was one of the reasons why they think it’s more than an appearance of impropriety. It’s a conflict of interest, and not just her, the entire office is disqualified,” Christian said.

Bird flu leads to severe human illness and state of emergency

0

Bird flu (H5N1) continues to spark warnings around the country.

On Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed the country’s first severe case of bird flu in a human.

The patient, who lives in southwestern Louisiana, is currently hospitalized, according to a release from the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH).

BIRD FLU SURGES IN SEVERAL US STATES WITH REPORTS OF NEW OUTBREAKS: ‘GETTING WORSE’

The infected person is known to have been exposed to sick and dead birds that are “suspected to have been infected,” the same source stated.

The LDH is working with the CDC on genomic testing of the virus infecting the hospitalized patient. Fox News Digital reached out to the department for comment.

There have been a total of 61 human cases throughout the country since April.

No human-to-human transmission has been reported, leading the CDC to maintain its stance that risk to the public is low.

GOVERNOR NEWSOM DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY IN CALIFORNIA DUE TO BIRD FLU

Despite the low risk, California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday declared a state of emergency due to the bird flu.

The declaration follows an outbreak of the virus among dairy cows in Southern California farms, according to the news release on the governor’s website.

“This proclamation is a targeted action to ensure government agencies have the resources and flexibility they need to respond quickly to this outbreak,” Newsom said in a statement.

“Building on California’s testing and monitoring system — the largest in the nation — we are committed to further protecting public health, supporting our agricultural industry, and ensuring that Californians have access to accurate, up-to-date information,” he continued.

“While the risk to the public remains low, we will continue to take all necessary steps to prevent the spread of this virus.”

Doctors discuss bird flu risk

Sam Scarpino, PhD, director of AI and life sciences at Northeastern University in Boston, said the “tragic case” in Louisiana is evidence of the “widespread nature” of H5N1 in the U.S.

“It also reinforces the very serious situation we are facing,” he told Fox News Digital.

“We need to take more decisive action to control the spread of H5N1 in animal populations.”

“We need to take more decisive action to control the spread of H5N1 in animal populations. Until then, we will continue to see human spillover cases, and some of them will unfortunately be severe.”

Dr. Marc Siegel, clinical professor of medicine at NYU Langone Health and Fox News senior medical analyst, pointed out that this severe case represents just one instance of the infection and is not necessarily cause for alarm.

“We’d have to know more about the patient’s particular medical details,” he told Fox News Digital. “We can’t conclude [from one case] that it’s becoming more severe in humans.”

Previous iterations of bird flu have had a 50% death rate in humans, Siegel noted, but the 61 human cases in the U.S. this year have been “very mild.”

“That is actually a good sign, that the virus is mutating away from severity, as traditionally H5N1 makes humans very sick,” he told Fox News Digital.

The most critical thing to watch, according to the doctor, is whether bird flu will begin to spread from human to human.

“That’s the key thing we’re concerned about — that it doesn’t get into the upper respiratory tract among humans,” Siegel said.

“It hasn’t up until now, and that’s because it would take some mutations — at least one. We’re tracking that, but probably not closely enough.”

The vast majority of recent human cases have stemmed from direct contact with animals, he said — “but it’s now spread into the cattle population and into milk, which worries a lot of people, including me.”

Rebecca C. Christofferson, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Pathobiological Sciences at Louisiana State University, commented to Fox News Digital about the potential for a pandemic.

“Nobody wants another pandemic.”

“Bird flu is a group of influenza viruses that primarily circulate among bird populations,” she told Fox News Digital.

“However, influenza viruses are also known to jump species, and bird flu has done this a few times in history.”

“The more the virus gets into mammals and then the more it passes from mammal to mammal, the greater the concern that it will adapt to mammals and spread more easily among them and then spill over into humans,” Christofferson added.

“Nobody wants another pandemic.”

The good news, Cristofferson said, is that it’s easy to protect yourself from catching bird flu.

“If you have to handle birds or suspected ill animals (or be around ill people), wearing gloves and masks and washing your hands will protect you as it does with other respiratory viruses,” she said.

Ex-CNN pundit apologizes for ignoring Biden’s mental decline: ‘I should’ve pushed harder’

0

A former CNN pundit has offered a mea culpa for shrugging off concerns about President Biden’s mental decline.

Chris Cilizza, who served as CNN’s editor-at-large before leaving the network in 2022, spoke candidly about his lack of journalistic curiosity about Biden’s condition to serve following a pair of damning reports this week from The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal that shed light on the president’s diminished state.

“As a reporter, I have a confession to make,” Cillizza began his “apology” on his YouTube channel Thursday. “I should have pushed harder earlier for more information about Joe Biden’s mental and physical well-being and any signs of decline.”

BIDEN ADMIN OFFICIALS NOTICED STAMINA ISSUES IN PRESIDENT’S FIRST FEW MONTHS IN OFFICE: REPORT

Chris Cillizza

Former CNN editor at large Chris Cillizza issued an apology for not pushing hard enough on President Biden’s mental decline. (Screenshot/CNN)

Cillizza acknowledged how Republicans would “regularly ping me” during his time at CNN, asking him why he hadn’t addressed Biden’s decline and how he would “brush them off” since he had not seen “evidence” of the president’s decline.

And not only did he admit to taking the word of the White House, he conceded he felt guilty of “age shaming” Biden.

“The White House and the people around Joe Biden were absolutely adamant that suggesting anything- asking the question about whether he was in some physical, mental or both decline, was offensive. ‘How could you? It’s age shaming.’ And I think that impacted me at some level,” Cillizza said. “Because while I did ask the question from time to time… I didn’t really push on it, if I’m being honest. Now, once I left CNN and once it became a little bit more clear to me about Biden’s age, I think I did write pretty regularly and talk pretty regularly about how I wasn’t sure that this guy was up to it. And then obviously, after the June 27 debate, everybody, including me, was writing and talking about it.”

The former CNN pundit went on to read excerpts from the Journal report about Biden’s limited interactions with his own cabinet members and Democratic lawmakers, as well as the Times’ assertion finding it “hard to imagine” Biden lasting in the job for another four years.

“I probably should’ve pushed harder on the Biden age stuff because, in retrospect, it’s clear that the people close to him knew that at best, he had some good days and some bad days. June 27, the debate clearly was a bad day. But if the bad day was that bad, as bad as he performed on that debate stage, the fact that he had been president without a whole lot of questions being asked about his physical and mental decline, and I’ll add the fact that he continued to be president from June 27 until January 20, 2025, I think is a little bit concerning and begs the question of, like, when did people near him know, what did they know, and why did they not share?” Cillizza said.

“I know journalists did ask, and I can tell you, I mean, I know from my experience, there was a shame factor that went into that. People around Biden worked to make you feel bad when you asked whether he was up to the job of being president, running for president again and serving as president for another four years. ‘How could you?’ … And they did a very good job, at least until they couldn’t hide it anymore, of hiding it,” he continued. “But journalists, and I put myself here, we should have been pushier. We should have- I should have not let the shame campaign to make you feel bad for asking the question get to me because it’s now clear from both the Wall Street Journal and The New York Times piece that there was real deterioration… and significant decline in Joe Biden, and that it was being managed by the people around him. They were insulating him. They were keeping sort of the world, the political world, out, and keeping him sort of bunkered in.”

“And so I think it’s a lesson that we have to learn going forward. Because again, Donald Trump will be the oldest person ever to hold office if he serves for four years, and I will be mindful of that. Because again, asking those questions isn’t a partisan thing. Asking those questions is a journalism thing, and I should have pushed harder and not been as willing to accept the ‘Nah, he’s fine. Look at him when he’s in public’ campaign,” Cillizza added.

Some critics took aim at Cillizza’s delayed apology. One of them, conservative podcast host Meghan McCain, drew scrutiny towards his sincerity, invoking his past commentary of her late father, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., during his 2008 presidential run.

“When I say this is too little too late, I mean this is absolutely pathetically too little too late,” McCain reacted on X. “There was no bigger and more obsessive ‘McCain truther’ regarding my dad’s age when he ran in 2008 (when he was 71 mind you) than Chris. He ignored Biden because he’s a hack.”
