An appearance by Pete Buttigieg on Friday morning on New Hampshire talk radio is fueling ongoing speculation that the U.S. Secretary of Transportation in President Biden’s administration may be mulling another White House run in 2028.

Buttigieg, a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate who is considered a potential contender for the next nomination race, has made numerous radio appearances across the country during his four years steering the Department of Transportation, including a bunch in New Hampshire, which prides itself on being the first-in-the-nation presidential primary state.

But with President-elect Trump a month away from returning to the White House, and Democrats scrambling in the wake of November’s election setbacks to find a path out of the political wilderness, Buttigieg’s latest radio appearance in New Hampshire is grabbing increased attention as the extremely early preseason moves in the party’s 2028 presidential primary race will soon start.

And the guest segment by Buttigieg on the statewide morning news-talk radio program “New Hampshire Today” is bound to spark more 2028 speculation.

HERE ARE THE DEMOCRATS WHO MAY RUN FOR THE WHITE HOUSE IN 2028

“The only thing I’m sure is next is a little vacation,” Buttigieg said when asked by host Chris Ryan about his plans once his tenure as transportation secretary sunsets on Jan. 20.

Buttigieg said he and his spouse, Chasten, “are ready to spend a little time together. I’m ready to be around our three-year-old twins a little more, and I’m determined not to make any life decisions too quickly in the new year.”

VANCE IN ‘CATBIRD SEAT,’ BUT HERE ARE THE OTHER REPUBLICANS WHO MAY ALSO RUN IN 2028

“But I will find ways to make myself useful, and maybe that’s running for office, and maybe that’s not. I’ll take the next few weeks and months to work through that,” Buttigieg shared.

And he emphasized that “I know what I care about. I care about how communities, like the place where I grew up, find a better future. I care about how to make sure technology makes us all better off and not worse off. I care about how the infrastructure issues and opportunities I’ve worked on can develop. I care about public service. I care about our democracy, and I will find ways to work on that, whatever shape that might take.”

Buttigieg, a former naval intelligence officer who deployed to the war in Afghanistan and who served eight years as mayor of South Bend, Indiana, was a longshot when he launched his 2020 presidential campaign.

But his campaign caught fire, and he narrowly edged Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont to win the Iowa caucuses before coming in close second to Sanders in the New Hampshire presidential primary. But Buttigieg, along with the rest of the Democratic field, dropped out of the race and endorsed Biden as the former vice president won the South Carolina primary in a landslide, swept the Super Tuesday contests and eventually clinched the nomination before winning the White House.

During his tenure as Secretary of Transportation, Buttigieg has made a handful of official visits to New Hampshire, most recently earlier this year. And two years ago, in a political trip, he headlined the New Hampshire Democratic Party’s major autumn fundraising gala.

Asked in the interview whether he’ll be returning to the Granite State in the near future, he quipped, “I’m sure I’ll turn up before too long.”

Buttigieg, in recent years, has also made regular appearances on the Fox News Channel to highlight the Biden administration’s efforts. This year, he served as a high-profile surrogate on Fox News and elsewhere across the media landscape for Biden, and later for Vice President Kamala Harris, on the campaign trail.

After his 2020 presidential campaign, Buttiegieg moved from red-state Indiana to neighboring Michigan, which is a key battleground, and now calls Traverse City, Michigan, home.

In recent weeks, Buttigieg has fielded calls by some Michigan Democrats urging him to consider a 2026 run for governor, to succeed Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who is term-limited.

“I haven’t made any decisions about, big decisions about my future,” Buttigieg told reporters earlier this month in Detroit, in a line that he would repeat in this week’s New Hampshire radio interview.

Croatian school knife attack leaves 7-year-old dead, 6 people wounded, police say

0

  • A knife attack at a school in Croatia’s capital left a 7-year-old girl dead and a teacher and five other students wounded, police said.
  • Police described the attacker as a “young male” and said he had been detained.
  • State HRT television said the attacker entered the school and went straight into the first classroom he found and attacked the children.

ZAGREB, Croatia (AP) — A knife-wielding teenager walked into a school in Croatia’s capital Zagreb on Friday, killing a 7-year-old student and injuring three more children and a teacher, authorities said.

Authorities said the knife attack happened at 9:50 a.m. at the Precko Elementary School in the neighborhood of the same name. They described the attacker as a 19-year-old male and said he had been detained after inflicting injuries to himself.

Croatian Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic said one child died while three children and a teacher were injured.

“The attacker is a 19-year-old who is a former student of that school and still lives nearby,” said Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic. “Eventually he started injuring himself. Police prevented him from committing suicide.”

Bozinovic said the attacker was registered as previously having mental health problems and had already tried to kill himself: “It is hard to say this person was mentally balanced.”

Video footage released by Croatian media showed children running away from the school building and a medical helicopter landing in the schoolyard.

Authorities in Zagreb declared Saturday a day or mourning. President Zoran Milanovic said “there are no words to describe the grief over the horrible and unthinkable tragedy that shocked us all today.” MIlanovic called for unity and an effort to ensure that schools are a safe and careless place for children.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said at the a government session that he is “appalled” by the attack and that authorities are still working to determine exactly what happened. Plenkovic said several children have been taken to various hospitals in Zagreb.

State HRT television said the attacker entered the school and went straight into the first classroom he found and attacked the children.

School attacks are rare in Croatia. Last May, a teenager in neighboring Serbia opened fire at a school in the capital Belgrade, killing nine fellow students and a school guard.

House vote on ‘very similar’ spending bill expected Friday morning, GOP lawmaker says

0

The House is planning to vote on another CR proposal Friday morning to avert the looming partial government shutdown, a GOP lawmaker told reporters on Capitol Hill.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., speaking to reporters outside Speaker Mike Johnson’s office, said that lawmakers are “very close to a deal” and suggested that a vote could be held at 10 a.m. on Friday.

“I do not believe the government is going to be shutting down. You guys will see some great stuff, very similar to President Trump’s plan yesterday,” the congresswoman said.

However, Rep. Dusty Johnson, R-S.D., told reporters that he is not certain a vote will come as early as Friday morning.

“I don’t have any reason to believe there will be a vote at 10 o’clock,” Johnson said. “I know some people would like to get something not on the floor this morning.”

Legislation to avoid a partial government shutdown that was backed by Trump failed to pass the House of Representatives on Thursday night.

The proposal was hastily negotiated on Thursday after the initial 1,547-page bipartisan deal crumbled after Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy criticized the spending bill that would have extended the government funding deadline until March 14.

The bill needed two-thirds of the House chamber to pass but failed to even net a majority, with two Democrats voting with the majority of Republicans to pass the bill and 38 GOP lawmakers against.

Lies about Biden’s age, health during his presidency is a ‘scandal of epic proportions,’ Scott Jennings says

0

CNN’s Scott Jennings criticized the White House for hiding President Biden’s health and age issues from the public in a segment on Thursday.

“This is the biggest scandal in America,” Jennings said on CNN. “And the level and volume of people who dedicated themselves to lying to everyone at home about this man’s condition for four-straight years up through this summer is breathtaking.”

A Wall Street Journal report from Thursday that includes interviews with nearly 50 people, including current and former White House staffers who interacted directly with the president, revealed that Biden’s stamina issues were apparent even during his first few months in office.

BIDEN ADMIN OFFICIALS NOTICED STAMINA ISSUES IN PRESIDENT’S FIRST FEW MONTHS IN OFFICE: REPORT

Scott Jennings on CNN

CNN’s Scott Jennings criticized the White House for hiding President Biden’s health and age issues from the public.  (CNN)

“It‘s a scandal of epic proportions and it’s a fair question to ask, who is running the country?” Jennings said. “Who has been running the country?”

Jennings argued that Biden’s staffers lied about his health and age concerns for the entirety of his presidency.

“If you‘re worried about Donald Trump‘s advisers having influence — for the last four years, apparently, this president, duly elected, this president was not capable of fulfilling the duties of the office. And his staff and the White House lied about it and kept it from the American people,” Jennings said. “It‘s an absolute scandal.”

BIDEN ‘A LITTLE OLDER AND A LITTLE SLOWER’ IN THE FINAL DAYS OF HIS PRESIDENCY: NEW YORK TIMES REPORT

Some news outlets, including The New York Times, are reporting that Biden appears even “older and a little slower” in the final days of his presidency.

The NYT report revealed: “[Biden] looks a little older and a little slower with each passing day. Aides say he remains plenty sharp in the Situation Room, calling world leaders to broker a cease-fire in Lebanon or deal with the chaos of Syria’s rebellion. But it is hard to imagine that he seriously thought he could do the world’s most stressful job for another four years.”

New Fox Nation episodic series dives deep into Trump’s controversial Cabinet picks

0

While Donald Trump’s allies have been steadfast in defending most of his Cabinet choices, some of the President-elect’s nominees have caused a stir from both sides of the aisle. Now, Fox Nation dives deep into each pick — however controversial — in its latest episodic series, “The Cabinet.”

ROBERT F. KENNEDY JR.

Trump’s secretary nominee for the Department of Health and Human Services (HSS) has caused some controversy. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ran as an Independent in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, but on Aug. 23 he dropped out and announced his support for Trump. If he is confirmed by the Senate, RFK Jr. plans to re-evaluate many health policies, from vaccines to ultra-processed foods. This initiative explains the viral motto, “Make America Healthy Again,” which summarizes his ambitions in the Trump administration.

RFK JR. SAYS HE PLANS TO ALSO MEET WITH DEMS IN BID TO GET CONFIRMED AS TRUMP HHS HEAD

“It ended up bringing a lot of credibility to the campaign,” Fox News contributor Charles Hurt said on RFK Jr.’s endorsement.

“I normally don’t think endorsements matter that much,” he continued. “But I think that RFK’s endorsement of Trump made a huge difference.”

SEN. MARCO RUBIO

During the 2016 Republican presidential primaries, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., traded barbs and insults with Trump. However, despite their differences, the two politicians joined forces during Trump’s first term, and the Florida senator became known as a loyal supporter of the president. In November, Rubio was nominated as United States Secretary of State and awaits his confirmation from the Senate.

“He has a lot of the qualities that Trump likes,” Fox News contributor Miranda Devine said in the Fox Nation episode. “He’s just a good politician. He’s smooth, he knows where the bodies are buried.”

Hurt also added that Rubio is “widely respected across the aisle,” and expects him to even pick up some Democratic votes in the Senate confirmation.

GOV. KRISTI NOEM

Kristi Noem, the current governor of South Dakota, is Trump’s nominee for his secretary of Homeland Security. Despite not being a leader from a border state, on multiple occasions she used her state’s resources to help stem the flow of migrants illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. Noem’s nomination was a surprise to many, but Fox News contributor Ben Domenech said she “is someone who can be a go-between with Congress.”

Domenech also added that she has the potential to be a “more traditional person in this role,” meaning she can build upon her relationships with fellow Republicans.

Kristi Noem has experience working with Republican leadership on border security, despite her state of South Dakota not being a border state itself.

While it remains to be seen which of the Cabinet nominees will be confirmed, one thing that is for certain is that the upcoming Senate confirmation hearings and elections will go a long way in determining the trajectory of the second Trump administration.

Law enforcement organizations and unions nationwide are throwing their support behind Republican South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem as Department of Homeland Security chief, citing her as the “best leader to restore justice” and tackle immigration woes left over from the Biden administration.

“We respectfully urge you and your colleagues in the Senate to confirm Governor Noem without delay. The border security crisis demands immediate attention, and the confirmation of Governor Noem is a critical step in addressing this urgent issue,” International Union of Police Associations Local 6020, Broward Deputy Sheriffs Association, President Donald Prichard wrote in one of the endorsement letters to Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., earlier this month.

At least eight police groups or unions have issued letters to Paul, calling on the upcoming chairman of the committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs to swiftly confirm Noem to combat the immigration crisis along the southern border, as well as stem the flow of deadly narcotics coming across the border and crack down on crime. Trump announced Noem as his pick for DHS chief shortly after his decisive win over Vice President Kamala Harris in November.

The DHS oversees U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the U.S. Secret Service and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

‘KNOWS HOW TO GET THINGS DONE’: BORDER PATROL UNION RALLIES AROUND NOEM AS DHS CHIEF

Kristi Noem and President Trump

Law enforcement groups that have endorsed Noem include: the National Fraternal Order of Police, the largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers in the U.S.; the National Association of Police Organizations; the International Union of Police Associations; the Toledo Police Patrolman’s Association; International Union of Police Associations Local 6020; the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association; the Police Officers Association of Michigan; and the National Border Patrol Council.

‘SECURE OUR BORDER’: MASSIVE POLICE ORG CALLS FOR SWIFT CONFIRMATION OF NOEM TO DHS

The Police Officers Association of Michigan – the Great Lakes State’s largest law enforcement group – endorsed Noem in a letter to Paul this month, lamenting that, under the Biden administration, police have faced a more difficult job as illegal immigration moved north and rocked the state.

“We represented our members as they reported for work every day while others remained home during COVID and as groups of rioters attacked our members with a variety of weapons,” James Tignanelli, the president of the Michigan police group, wrote in a letter to Paul on Dec. 5.

“The job has grown even more difficult because the Biden Administration has intentionally failed to enforce our immigration laws. Criminal aliens and deadly fentanyl have crossed our open borders and have increased crime in both rural and urban communities across Michigan. We always had the northern border to patrol. Now, the open border across the south has consumed Michigan as well. The current leadership of the Department of Homeland Security has betrayed us. Claims of ‘the border is secure’ were and are absurd,” he continued.

The National Border Patrol Council, a union representing about 18,000 Border Patrol agents, called on Paul and his Senate colleagues to “quickly” consider Noem’s confirmation.

TRUMP SELECTS SOUTH DAKOTA GOV KRISTI NOEM TO RUN DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY

“On behalf of the men and women of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) who protect our nation’s borders, we are excited to provide our support for President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee, Governor Kristi Noem, to be the next Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security,” National Border Patrol Council President Paul Perez wrote in a letter this month.

The union said Noem has already established her ability to “get things done” both at home in South Dakota, and on the national stage when she aided Texas’ “Operation Lone Star” to battle the immigration crisis.

”Governor Noem was the first governor to deploy National Guard personnel to the border in Texas to support Operation Lone Star. This deployment bolstered our resources at a critical time along the border and helped to protect Texans and Americans alike.”

“The border is a war zone, so we’re sending soldiers,” Noem said in a press release in February, which marked the fifth deployment of National Guard troops to the border under the Biden administration. “These soldiers’ primary mission will be construction of a wall to stem the flow of illegal immigrants, drug cartels, and human trafficking into the United States of America.”

Fraternal Order of Police President Patrick Yoes wrote in his letter to Paul that his organization also looks “forward to working with [Noem] to secure our border.”

“The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) employs more law enforcement than any other Federal department, and as such we ask the Committee to expeditiously review and confirm nominees as soon as possible to ensure a seamless transition. We especially encourage the committee to hold the earliest possible hearing on Governor Kristi L. Noem to be the next Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The FOP supports her nomination, and we look forward to working with her to secure our border,” Yoes wrote.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT KRISTI NOEM, THE ‘BORDER HAWK’ NOMINATED BY TRUMP TO LEAD DHS

Trump, who ran on a pledge to end the immigration crisis at the southern border and crack down on the deadly drug epidemic ravaging communities across the nation, announced his nomination of Noem just days after winning the election.

“Kristi has been very strong on Border Security. She was the first Governor to send National Guard Soldiers to help Texas fight the Biden Border Crisis, and they were sent a total of eight times. She will work closely with ‘Border Czar’ Tom Homan to secure the Border, and will guarantee that our American Homeland is secure from our adversaries. I have known Kristi for years, and have worked with her on a wide variety of projects – She will be a great part of our mission to Make America Safe Again,” he wrote last month in his announcement.

EX-TRUMP OFFICIAL PREDICTS ‘ENTIRE MINDSET CHANGE’ AT SOUTHERN BORDER, HAILS ‘FANTASTIC’ PICK TO LEAD DHS

Noem has served as governor of the Mount Rushmore State since 2019, and notably gained national attention and praise from conservatives during the pandemic when she bucked lockdown orders and mask mandates common in liberal states such as California and New York. Ahead of her tenure as governor, Noem served in the U.S. House from 2011 to 2019.

Mike Lee predicts demise of Johnson speakership, calls for ‘DOGE speaker’

0

Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, predicted that House Speaker Mike Johnson would not retain the gavel next year and called for either Elon Musk or Vivek Ramaswamy to fill the leadership role.

“I don’t think the speaker is going to remain in power,” Lee predicted during a Thursday night appearance on “Jesse Watters Primetime.”

The senator went on to say if he is correct, the next speaker should be a “DOGE speaker,” a reference to the Department of Governmental Efficiency. President-elect Donald Trump tapped Musk and Ramaswamy to lead the effort to advocate for reduced government spending.

“Vivek, Elon if you’re watching, please sign up, America needs you,” Lee said.

TRUMP-BACKED SPENDING BILL TO AVERT GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN FAILS HOUSE VOTE

Sen. Mike Lee

In a Thursday morning post on X, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., had floated the idea of Musk for House speaker.

“Nothing would disrupt the swamp more than electing Elon Musk . . . think about it .  . . nothing’s impossible. (not to mention the joy at seeing the collective establishment, aka ‘uniparty,’ lose their ever-lovin’ minds),” Paul posted Thursday morning.

This week, with the prospect of a potential partial government shutdown looming, conservatives railed against a 1,547-page government spending measure advocated by House Speaker Mike Johnson.

President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance also weighed in, declaring in a statement, “Republicans want to support our farmers, pay for disaster relief, and set our country up for success in 2025. The only way to do that is with a temporary funding bill WITHOUT DEMOCRAT GIVEAWAYS combined with an increase in the debt ceiling.”

Before a vote on Thursday, in which 38 House Republicans and most Democrats rejected a reworked proposal with a much lower page count, Trump lambasted Rep. Chip Roy, R-Tx., claiming that the lawmaker was “getting in the way, as usual, of having yet another Great Republican Victory – All for the sake of some cheap publicity for himself.”

“Weak and ineffective people like Chip have to be dismissed as being utterly unknowledgeable as to the ways of politics, and as to Making America Great Again,” Trump asserted in a Truth Social post.

Lee spoke highly of Roy after Trump trashed the Lone Star State lawmaker.

“There is not a more faithful advocate of conservative policy, constitutionally limited government, or MAGA principles than @ChipRoyTX,” Lee declared in a post on X. “President Trump will not have a more principled, hardworking ally than @ChipRoyTX,” he added. “If a more devoted advocate for the Constitution exists today, I have not met that person.”

Roy delivered a fiery speech ahead of the vote on Thursday, in which he blasted the new version of the spending proposal and the Republicans supporting it.

“Yes, I think this bill is better than it was yesterday on certain respects,” Roy noted, adding that to “congratulate yourself because it’s shorter in pages but increases the debt by $5 trillion is asinine.”

Roy said he was “sickened by a party that campaigns on fiscal responsibility and has the temerity” to suggest the proposal was “fiscally responsible. It is absolutely ridiculous,” he asserted.

Sen. Paul, R-Ky., reposted a clip of Roy’s speech, and commented, “We are either fiscally conservative or not. An unlimited increase in the debt ceiling for 2 years is not fiscally conservative and should be rejected.”

In a post on X, Roy noted, “Currently, I’m against raising the debt ceiling without major spending cuts/reform.”

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., who like Roy, voted against passing the spending proposal on Thursday, suggested that instead of voting on a catchall measure, there should be multiple measures that receive individual votes.

“This isn’t complicated. Separate the bills and vote on them individually. one vote on the clean CR one vote on the debt limit one vote on disaster relief one vote on farm bailouts Radical right? Individual bills for each issue,” he posted.

Lee agreed with him.

“Separate the bills,” he wrote. “Vote on them individually,” he added. “Revolutionary!”

Here’s a list of the 38 Republicans who defied Trump by voting ‘no’ on the failed spending bill

A bill to avert a partial government shutdown that was backed by President-elect Donald Trump failed to pass the House of Representatives on Thursday night, pushing Congress closer to a government shutdown.

The bill, which had won the approval of President-elect Donald Trump, still lost the approval of 38 Republicans.

The deal roundly lost 235 to 174, scoring only 2 Democratic ‘yes’ votes and 197 Democratic nos.

It comes after two days of chaos in Congress as lawmakers fought among themselves about a path forward on government spending – a fight joined by Trump and his allies Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.

Meanwhile, the national debt has climbed to over $36 trillion, and the national deficit is over $1.8 trillion.

The new deal also includes several key policies unrelated to keeping the government open, but the 116-page bill is much narrower than its 1,547-page predecessor.

‘HELL NO’: HOUSE DEMS ERUPT OVER GOP SPENDING DEAL

Like the initial bill, the new iteration extended the government funding deadline through March 14 while also suspending the debt limit – something Trump had pushed for. It also included $110 billion in disaster relief and a farm bill extension.

“Why would we give Joe Biden more money this late in his administration?” said Rep. Bob Good, R-Va., after the vote. “The money intended for disaster victims should have been paid for, there should have been offsets.

The Democrats who voted ‘yes’ on the legislation were Reps. Kathy Castor, Fla., and Marie Gleusenkamp Perez, Wash.

Biden would be making a ‘huge mistake’ with preemptive pardons, legal expert warns

0

Fox News legal contributor Jonathan Turley warned on “Fox & Friends” Thursday that the idea of President Biden preemptively pardoning President-elect Trump’s political foes, like former Rep. Liz Cheney, would set a “dangerous” precedent for future administrations.

WV DEMOCRATS SAY BIDEN’S ‘EGREGIOUS’ PARDON CHOICES ARE ‘WHAT WE WOULD EXPECT FROM TRUMP’

JONATHAN TURLEY: I’m very much opposed [to pardoning Liz Cheney.]. I think that she is likely to get one, but these types of preemptive pardons are very damaging to our system. There are people who are suggesting that Joe Biden give up the thousands of pardons, of preemptive what I call white knight pardons, and part of this is really designed for a political rather than a legal purpose. I don’t think Cheney is in serious threat of prosecution, but we have a legal system to protect her rights and to protect the interests of the American people. So if she’s investigated, they find something we don’t know, then perhaps there is a basis for prosecution. But at the moment, I’m very skeptical. But when it comes to these preemptive pardons, it would change the pardon power in a dangerous way. We have gone through a very decisive period, a divisive period. I mean, Thomas Jefferson called the Adams administration the reign of the witches, but none of them engaged in this type of preemptive pardons. And it would be a huge mistake for President Biden.

According to recent reporting from Politico, the White House is currently discussing pardoning prominent Trump critics, including Dr. Anthony Fauci; Sen.-elect Adam Schiff, D-Calif.; and former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo.

Cheney is facing calls from GOP legislators that the FBI investigate her for “potential criminal witness tampering” related to her former role on the Jan. 6 House Select Committee, according to a report released Tuesday by House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight Chair Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga.

Politico noted that White House counsel Ed Siskel is arranging discussions about the potential pardons with several other senior Biden aides, including chief of staff Jeff Zients, though Biden himself has not been a part of the conversations yet.

Liberal media outlets and Democratic lawmakers have grasped onto a new talking point as the incoming administration gets ready to enter the White House — Elon Musk is a “shadow” president, taking the reins from President-elect Donald Trump.

House GOP leaders are working toward a backup plan after an initial bipartisan deal to avoid a partial government shutdown was killed by conservative opposition led by Musk, Trump’s pick to co-chair his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), alongside Vivek Ramaswamy.

“Your elected representatives have heard you and now the terrible bill is dead. The voice of the people has triumphed! VOX POPULI. VOX DEI,” Musk posted on X Wednesday.

A plethora of prominent figures across the media then insinuated that Musk was pulling the strings inside Trump’s team.

“Elon Musk, the guy who really runs things. He’s not just Trump’s co-president. I think that’s way too low a title,” MSNBC’s Chris Hayes said during his Wednesday monologue. “He’s the head dude in charge and House Republicans certainly know who they are taking their marching orders from.”

Jen Psaki expressed a similar sentiment on the network, suggesting that Musk may begin to “outshine” Trump and inadvertently draw the scorn of the president-elect.

“Elon Musk is around Trump all the time. He was in that picture that you referenced, that was at the Army-Navy game, creepily kind of right over his shoulder. He seems to be living at Mar-a-Lago. I don’t know how Trump feels about that. Maybe he’s enjoying it currently. Will he still? And he’s also getting credit for having power over Congress, over Trump. How does that sit with Trump? We know from history, typically doesn’t sit well,” she said.

The ladies of ABC’s “The View” also waded into the conspiracy, with Whoopi Goldberg asking Thursday who really is in charge of Trump’s circle. After Joy Behar suggested that Musk and Vice President-elect JD Vance may be colluding against Trump, Goldberg took it a step further and joked the pair may be conspiring to kill the incoming president.

“Hey, you know who; stay away from the stairways,” she said as the crowd erupted in laughter.

CNN commentator David Axelrod highlighted competing visions between Musk and Trump about the spending bill during a Wednesday appearance on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360.”

“What was confusing to me is Musk sends out one of his tweets, and he says no one should do anything until January 20th, when Trump gets there; Trump sends out a tweet saying they ought to pass a clean CR with a debt ceiling — raising the debt ceiling because … he doesn’t want to be blamed for it,” he said. “So, they seem to be saying different things, and eventually they’re going to have to get together and decide who the president is.”

“Morning Joe” co-anchor Willie Geist took the narrative further on Thursday, claiming that current and former Republicans are now referring to the incoming commander-in-chief as “Vice President Trump.”

“That is not going to sit well,” Geist said.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Trump-Vance Transition spokeswoman and incoming press secretary Karoline Leavitt threw cold water on the media talking point.

“As soon as President Trump released his official stance on the CR, Republicans on Capitol Hill echoed his point of view. President Trump is the leader of the Republican Party. Full stop,” she said.

A swathe of Democrats also indicated that they believe Musk is directing the Republican agenda.

“Apparently America elected Elon Musk President. Trump is just his errand boy,” Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Wisc., wrote on Musk’s X.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., posted on Wednesday that it is “clear who’s in charge” of the party—and it’s not Trump.

“Shadow President Elon Musk spent all day railing against Republicans’ CR, succeeded in killing the bill, and then Trump decided to follow his lead,” she wrote on X.

Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., echoed the claim later that night, telling MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell that it was not Trump who asked for the spending bill to be killed, but rather “President” Elon Musk.

Trump adamantly opposed the bill on Wednesday through a series of posts on Truth Social.

“Sounds like the ridiculous and extraordinarily expensive Continuing Resolution, PLUS, is dying fast, but can anyone imagine passing it without either terminating or extending, the Debt Ceiling guillotine coming up in June?” the incoming president asked. “Unless the Democrats terminate or substantially extend [the] Debt Ceiling now, I will fight ’till the end. This is a nasty TRAP set in place by the Radical Left Democrats!”
