Washington state proposes high school sports division for transgenders, separating them from female athletes

0

The state of Washington could be one of the first in the nation to introduce a third gender category for high school sports in order to prevent biological males from competing against girls.

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) announced a proposal to create a separate open division for transgender athletes to compete in. One of the amendments proposes the creation of a girl’s division and an open division in which athletes could participate, regardless of whether their gender identity matches their assigned sex at birth.

“In order to maintain fair and equitable competition, participation in girls’ sports and girls’ divisions of sports is restricted to students who were assigned female at birth. The purpose of this policy is to offer clarity with respect to the participation of trans and gender-diverse student-athletes. Additionally, this policy encourages a culture in which student-athletes can compete in a safe and supportive environment, free of discrimination,” the proposal reads.

The state’s high school athletes are currently allowed to compete based on their gender identity rather than their biological sex. The WIAA policy states that each athlete will participate in programs “consistent with their gender identity or the gender most consistently expressed,” and there are not even any medical or legal requirements. Bills that would prohibit transgender girls from participating in girls’ and women’s sports have been introduced but not passed.

Washington is one of 25 states in the U.S. to have laws in place to protect trans inclusion in girls’ and women’s sports.

The proposal comes weeks after a school board in the state voted to send a letter to the WIAA pleading for it to reconsider its current rules that allow trans athletes to compete against females.

The Central Valley School Board, which oversees schools in Spokane Valley and Liberty Lake, Washington, voted to send a message to the WIAA over the issues after much debate at a school board meeting.

The resolution, titled “Supporting Equity and Safety in Female Sports,” claims that the entire board is comprised of female members who have either competed in athletics themselves or have daughters who competed in athletics.

One of the women, an unidentified current cross-country runner, shared her experience during the hearing.

“When I ran cross-country for Greenacres Middle School, a boy who was biologically male but identified as female competed on the girls’ team,” she said. “While I respect everyone’s right to participate in sports, the situation made me question the fairness of competing of someone who had the physical advantage associated with male biology.”

In May, a trans athlete competed in a girls’ cross-country championship and won.

Veronica Garcia, who was previously known as Devina Brown and Donovan Brown, won the 400m heat race in the girl’s division with a time of 55.59 seconds. The second-place runner finished at 58.83 seconds. In the finals, Garcia won with a time of 55.75 seconds, a full second ahead of the second-place runner who finished with 56.75.

SJSU TRANSGENDER VOLLEYBALL SCANDAL: TIMELINE OF ALLEGATIONS, POLITICAL IMPACT AND A RAGING CULTURE MOVEMENT

The victory prompted outrage by women’s rights activists, including former NCAA swimmer and OutKick contributor Riley Gaines.

The idea of a third gender category in high school and college sports to accommodate trans athletes has been floated as opposition to trans inclusion has stirred outrage across the country over the last year. Deep-blue states like Washington, as well as Oregon and California, which also have laws in place to protect trans inclusion, have been considered the places where a third category makes the most sense due to the influx of trans athletes competing against females in those states.

Steve Garvey, the former California Senate candidate and Los Angeles Dodgers World Series champion, previously told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview that he would support President-elect Trump’s ban on trans athletes in girls’ and women’s sports, and that he believes trans athletes should compete against each other.

In Riverside, California, Martin Luther King High School is facing a student uprising over the issue after two cross-country runners wore T-shirts that read “Save Girls’ Sports,” in response to a trans athlete taking a varsity roster spot from a female athlete.

The two female athletes filed a lawsuit against the school, and another teammate gave an impassioned plea during a board meeting, which went viral on social media, to remove the trans athlete from the team. Now, hundreds of the school’s students have committed to wearing the T-shirts every week.

UNC ‘on board’ to have Bill Belichick become next head coach, still working out issues with deal: report

0

Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels are working to close a deal to make him their next head football coach, which would be his first-ever time coaching in college.

However, ESPN reported that “there are still issues that both sides need to work through.”

The report adds that the “ball is in Belichick’s court” as UNC officials are indeed on board with him taking over the program. And there is expected to be a “resolution” soon.

After 24 seasons as the New England Patriots’ head coach, Bill Belichick tried his hand as a TV analyst. (IMAGN)

What exactly are the issues? Well, the potential role of Belichick’s son, Washington Huskies defensive coordinator Stephen Belichick, is one of them.

It was reported by The Guardian that, among the elder Belichick’s stipulations, his son would be named his heir to the head coach role once the 72-year-old moves on, whenever that would be.

ESPN added that NIL resources, Belichick’s salary for taking over and other issues need to be ironed out before a marriage can take place.

TOM BRADY EXPLAINS WHY HIS ANSWER IS ‘NO’ TO BILL BELICHICK HEADING TO COLLEGE FOOTBALL

It came as a shock when Belichick’s name was floated for the Tar Heels’ vacant position after longtime head coach Mack Brown said he wouldn’t return after this season.

Some of Belichick’s ex-pupils, like Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman, had some fun on FOX NFL Sunday this past week mimicking their old coach trying to deal with recruiting in this NIL age of college sports.

“There’s a lot of things he can do, and obviously he’s tremendous, and even showing his personality. But getting out there on the recruiting trail and dealing with all these college kids,” Brady said on the NFL pregame show. “’Listen, do you really want to come here?’” Brady said, acting as Belichick. “’I mean, we don’t really want you anyway, but I guess you could come, we’ll figure out if you play.’”

But this wasn’t just a publicity stunt. There’s more than just mutual interest in Belichick’s return to coaching in Chapel Hill.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Belichick and UNC officials spent five hours discussing a potential deal on Sunday, and in typical Belichick fashion, he wouldn’t divulge any details during his weekly spot on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday morning.

He admitted having a “couple of good conversations” with Lee Roberts, UNC’s chancellor, and added, “We’ll see how that goes.”

If a deal goes through, it would be one of the most polarizing head coach hires for a college program in history, as Belichick has only ever been a head coach in the NFL, where he won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots.

FORMER NFL COACH BRUCE ARIANS OFFERS ADVICE TO BILL BELICHICK AS NORTH CAROLINA FOOTBALL COACHING RUMORS SWIRL

His time with the franchise came to an end before this 2024 season. They mutually parted ways and Belichick’s attempts at finding another role elsewhere were all for naught. He has since joined the sports media space, offering his insight to various outlets, including ESPN, but being open to another opportunity in football was always in the cards.

However, it was always expected that such an opportunity would come from the NFL, and there are several head coaching roles already open in the league, making this situation even more surprising.

But Belichick told McAfee and his crew what would happen if he were to become a college football coach.

“If I was in a college program, the college program would be a pipeline to the NFL for the players that had the ability to play in the NFL,” Belichick said. “It would be a professional program: training, nutrition, scheme, coaching and techniques that would transfer to the NFL.”

Simply put, Belichick would bring to college football the system he knows works in the NFL, aiming for good players to join his team who will one day join the pros with the tools necessary for easy acclimation.

Time will tell if that program will be at UNC, but it appears some boxes need to be checked before a groundbreaking deal crosses the finish line.

“Kash Patel is the leader that the Federal Bureau of Investigation needs. The FBI has long been a beacon for hardworking and impressive investigators – but their leadership has failed both those brave men and women as well as the country. The FBI needs a smart, competent, reformer as its leader. Mr. Patel is the man for the job,” the letter of support read.

“As Attorneys General for our respective States familiar with the operations of justice departments, we have in the past weighed in on past nominees for the United States Department of Justice positions or when our own colleagues have been nominated,” the attorneys general said. “And we take the rule of law seriously. Many of us are also the chief law enforcement officers in our States – and we all partner with the federal government and FBI when needed to ensure justice is done. That the FBI is run well is important to us – and who runs the FBI is important to us, too.”

Neither Thune nor Schumer immediately provided comment to Fox News Digital.

‘EXCEPTIONALLY QUALIFIED’: TRUMP TRANSITION ROLLS OUT VIDEO HYPING HEGSETH AMID CAPITOL HILL MEETINGS

According to the state officials, “Americans have a crisis in confidence in FBI’s leadership. Years of scandal, including baseless investigations into President Trump have shaken the nation’s trust in the agency. Rather than focusing on investigating crime and America’s domestic threats, the FBI seems oddly focused on investigating President Trump. It is time for a leader to refocus the FBI on its core mission.”

The letter was sent to Thune and Schumer just over an hour before FBI Director Christopher Wray announced that he would be resigning ahead of the Trump administration.

“After weeks of careful thought, I’ve decided the right thing for the Bureau is for me to serve until the end of the current administration in January and then step down,” Wray said at a town hall in Washington, D.C. “My goal is to keep the focus on  our mission – the indispensable work you’re doing on behalf of the American people every day. In my view, this is the best way to avoid dragging the Bureau deeper into the fray, while reinforcing the values and principles that are so important to how we do our work.”

Patel ‘ready to serve’ as FBI director, seeks ‘smooth transition’ after Wray resignation news

0

FIRST ON FOX: President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for FBI director, Kash Patel, said Wednesday that he’s seeking a “smooth transition” to replace Christopher Wray, who had announced just moments earlier that he plans to step down from his post leading the bureau at the end of the Biden administration.

“I look forward to a smooth transition,” Patel told Fox News Digital on Wednesday in response to the announcement from Wray. “I will be ready to serve the American people on day one.”

Trump, during his first term as president, had tapped Wray to replace James Comey. Trump fired Comey in 2017, fewer than four years into his tenure.

Trump said earlier this month that he planned to replace Wray with Patel, a close ally of the president-elect. Patel served in the first Trump administration, both as a deputy assistant and as the senior director for counterterrorism.

In a statement shared on Truth Social, Trump praised the news of Wray’s resignation, describing it as a “great day for America” and a departure that would end what Trump has repeatedly criticized as the “Weaponization” of the Justice Department.

“Kash Patel is the most qualified Nominee to lead the FBI in the Agency’s History, and is committed to helping ensure that Law, Order, and Justice will be brought back to our Country again, and soon,” Trump added.

The remarks from Patel and Trump came shortly after Wray told FBI employees on Wednesday he planned to step down from his position as FBI director at the end of President Joe Biden’s tenure.

“After weeks of careful thought, I’ve decided the right thing for the Bureau is for me to serve until the end of the current Administration in January and then step down,” Wray told FBI employees, according to a copy of his prepared remarks. “My goal is to keep the focus on our mission — the indispensable work you’re doing on behalf of the American people every day. In my view, this is the best way to avoid dragging the Bureau deeper into the fray, while reinforcing the values and principles that are so important to how we do our work.”

House small business panel releases year-end report on ‘partisan’ Biden agency electioneering allegations

0

EXCLUSIVE: The House Small Business Committee is releasing its year-end interim report on what it found to be the “weaponizing [of] federal resources” for political purposes within the Small Business Administration.

Earlier this year, Rep. Roger Williams, R-Texas, committee chair, issued a rare subpoena to Small Business Administration officials over their work in connection with an official Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) forged with the Michigan Department of State.

The MOU was in accordance with President Biden’s 2021 executive order “14019: Promoting Access to Voting.” However, the committee alleged the SBA had been involved in partisan voter registration outreach in a key swing state – rather than simply aiding voters across the board.

The committee report, obtained exclusively by Fox News Digital, found Biden’s executive order to be an “improper use of executive authority” and that SBA actions in accordance with it thereby “pose unnecessary risks to the integrity of U.S. elections.”

LAWMAKERS SLAM SBA ‘STONEWALLING’ OVER MICHIGAN VOTER MEMO AS ELECTIONEERING CLAIMS SURFACE

“The SBA’s MOU with the State of Michigan and travel patterns of senior SBA officials indicate the conflation of official duty and partisan political activities,” the committee found.

“Either intentionally or negligently, the SBA has failed to refute concerns of this MOU’s partisan nature.”

The committee’s report also found the SBA “strayed from its core mission” in working with Michigan under the voter registration MOU, and that it “engaged in a protracted campaign to obscure the makeup of its implementation of E.O. 14019 and obfuscate the truth of alleged political activities at the SBA to the committee.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., praised the work of the committee and its interim report, saying it rightly exposed “not only the improper use of executive authority but also significant concerns about actions taken by an agency that may jeopardize the integrity of U.S. elections.”

WATCHDOG GROUP SUES FEDS FOR RECORDS AS LAWMAKER CALLS VOTER REGISTRATION EFFORTS A ‘SLAP IN THE FACE’

“The stark contrast between the SBA’s core mission and its involvement in voter registration activities highlights the urgent need for greater transparency and accountability,” Johnson said.

Johnson added he and the GOP caucus are looking forward to working with President-elect Trump to end such “abuses.”

The 47-page report further alleged the SBA exceeded the requirements of state and federal laws, including the National Voter Registration Act of 1993, the Anti-Deficiency Act, and the Hatch Act, which prohibits government officials from politicking in their official capacity.

In May, Williams and his committee, along with Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, demanded travel schedules, official calendars and other documents from the SBA. In addition, at least one Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) suit was separately launched by the right-leaning Oversight Project for some of the same documents as Congress was being purportedly “stonewalled.”

Williams initially accused the SBA and Administrator Isabel Casillas-Guzman of shirking her responsibility to help “Main Street” and instead focusing on registering voters in heavily Democratic parts of Michigan like Detroit and Saginaw – while ignoring committee oversight demands.

Rep. Bryan Steil, R-Wis., chair of the House Administration Committee – whose panel has oversight over legislative matters relating to elections – said that while elections are partisan affairs, election administration should not be.

“The Biden-Harris administration partnering with the Michigan Department of State to use your taxpayer dollars for a partisan purpose should never be allowed,” he said.

Digging into the executive order that the SBA’s actions aimed to align with, Williams’ report found it changed the way the executive branch enforces the National Voter Registration Act, and uniquely requires agency officials to work with the White House to find ways to support federal employees who wish to volunteer as election workers or watchers.

The report added that the choice of Michigan as the petri dish for the SBA’s work under the executive order caught the committee’s attention early, due to its routine status as a swing state and the fact its top officials were “sympath[etic]” to the Biden-Harris campaign.

“This interim report illustrates how the MOU blurs the line between personal political beliefs and the official duties of SBA and Michigan state employees,” the document reads.

The report also included copies of email chains between the White House, SBA and/or outside advocacy organizations.

“The committee discovered that many senior SBA employees have relationships with these left-leaning organizations,” it read.

“Notably, the Biden-Harris Administration ‘warmly welcomed’ these relationships between nonpartisan agencies and left-leaning organizations.”

In summing up and reacting to the report, Williams said the SBA was created to “aid, counsel, assist and protect the interests of small business concerns.”

In previous remarks to Fox News Digital, the top Democrat on Williams’ committee expressed dismay at the subpoenas and investigatory practices by Williams in probing the MOU.

Small Business Administration chief Isabel Guzman speaks at an event

In a statement, Rep. Nydia Velazquez, D-N.Y., said the committee had long prided itself on “bipartisan cooperation to help American entrepreneurs.”

“Unfortunately, with [these] subpoenas, Republicans have rejected these principles to pursue a partisan inquiry,” Velazquez said.

Representatives for the SBA have repeatedly denied the allegations made by Congress’ investigation.

In October, a spokesperson for Guzman said the explicit allegations of “stonewalling” the committee’s work were “demonstrably false.”

A spokesperson for the SBA told Fox News Digital on Tuesday that any allegations of “stonewalling” are “demonstrably false.”

“For nearly two years, the SBA has cooperated with the committee’s inquiry, testifying at multiple hearings, providing the committee staff with briefings, making agency officials available for transcribed interviews, and producing thousands of pages of documents responsive to their inquiry,” the spokesperson said, calling the allegations “baseless.”

Democrat slammed for saying he’s tired of hearing from law enforcement: ‘Partisan hack’

0

Democratic New York Rep. Dan Goldman is being ripped for comments he made during a House hearing on illegal immigration about Nassau County law enforcement, saying he is looking forward to not having to hear from Nassau police officers again.

Nassau County Police Commissioner Pat Ryder, who testified during the hearing, told Fox News Digital he was “taken aback” by Goldman’s comments, which he said were “disrespectful” to him and all men and women in law enforcement.

The incident occurred during a House Subcommittee on Emergency Management and Technology hearing titled “Given the Green Light: Open Border Policies and Threats to Law Enforcement.”

After being recognized by subcommittee Chairman Anthony D’Esposito, Goldman, who represents portions of Manhattan and Brooklyn, launched into a rant in which he said he was shocked to have to sit through another hearing about the illegal immigration crisis and indicated he was especially tired of hearing from Nassau County, New York, law enforcement officials.

BORDER PATROL CHIEF THRILLED WITH TRUMP BORDER CZAR PICK AFTER ‘EXHAUSTING’ BIDEN-ERA CRISIS: ‘I’M EXCITED’

Rep. Dan Goldman

“It is quite shocking that we are having another hearing about this same topic. We have certainly exhausted it,” Goldman said.

“I think we’ve probably had every single law enforcement official from Nassau County before this subcommittee. Can’t say I’m going to miss that when the chairman is not going to be with us next term.”

Goldman proceeded to repeatedly cut off some of the law enforcement officials testifying during his questioning. In one instance, Goldman shouted, “It’s my time sir,” when Jonathan Thompson, executive director of the National Sheriffs’ Association, attempted to finish answering a question.

D’Esposito, who represents Nassau County in Congress, pointed out during the hearing that Goldman, who has a net worth of $253 million and is heir to the Levi Strauss & Co. jeans company, owns a summer home in the county and is one of the residents kept safe by Nassau officers.

“Commissioner Ryder, I’m sure Mr. Goldman means no absolute disrespect to the people of Nassau County as he appreciates you keeping his summer home safe each year,” D’Esposito said immediately after Goldman’s time talking had expired.

“Unfortunately, it’s as expected from a partisan hack like Dan Goldman,” the chairman told Fox News Digital.

“These are the men and women that hold the line between good and evil. And the idea that Congressman Goldman had to talk about the fact that he was looking forward to not having to hear from Nassau County police officials, well, he should take inspiration from the work that’s been done here in Nassau County,” said D’Esposito.

Bill Johnson, executive director of the National Association of Police Organizations, told Fox News Digital Goldman “uniformly winds up on the wrong side of the issue” whenever he speaks out about public safety issues.

“Thus, it isn’t very surprising that he doesn’t want to hear from the men and women who are actually out on the streets trying to protect our communities. He’s just playing to form and doesn’t know it. That’s all,” said Johnson.

Ryder told Fox News Digital he was struck by the unprofessionalism displayed by Goldman during the hearing.

“I take time out of my schedule to prepare a statement, present the PowerPoint and I send it all in. I fly down here yesterday morning at 4 a.m. I get in front of Congress … and before he even got into asking me a question, which he never did, he makes that blanket statement like I’m offending him by being there And then, [regarding] law enforcement, he’s tired of hearing from the Nassau County Police Department,” said Ryder.

Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y.

It was Ryder’s first time testifying before Congress. He said he was eager to share his expertise on the challenges law enforcement faces responding to the migrant crisis and migrant crime in his community. Ryder had no idea why Goldman seemed to be personally bothered by his presence.

“We have to do what we have to do for our residents in Nassau County. He’s got to do what he’s got to do for his residents in New York City. But to be disrespectful at a public hearing like that for no reason — I didn’t do any attacks on him — I was really taken aback. And I thought it to be quite unfair that he would attack somebody who is a citizen coming there to do the right thing and give up my opinion and my statistical data in support of our migrant crime issue,” he said.

While he believes his message was received on the right side of the aisle, he said, “I don’t believe it was received by everyone on the left side of the aisle, especially not Congressman Goldman.

“He got up right after he made his statement and left, he just walked out,” added Ryder. “I thought that was also disrespectful, the hearings were not over.”

Ryder said he believes Goldman and many other politicians who have criticized law enforcement for doing their jobs could learn a lesson from the officers of Nassau County.

“The men and women in law enforcement, law professionals, they will go out and do their job no matter what the law is, no matter what the challenges. We don’t question it. We just go and do it. … We have a very proactive approach towards dealing with the migrant issues, but we are respectful and fair,” he said. “They can all take a little bit of a lesson on that professionalism.”

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch says police have matched a 3D-printed gun allegedly recovered from suspected killer Luigi Mangione to shell casings found outside a New York City Hilton where UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was gunned down from behind last week.

“First, we got the gun in question back from Pennsylvania,” she told reporters at a news briefing Wednesday. “It’s now at the NYPD crime lab. We were able to match that gun to the three shell casings that we found in Midtown at the scene of the homicide.”

They also have his fingerprints on a snack bar wrapper and a water bottle, she said.

“We were also able at our crime lab to match the person of interest’s fingerprints with fingerprints that we found on both the water bottle and the KIND bar near the scene of the homicide in midtown,” she added.

Tisch and NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny previously told Fox News they found a burner phone and other physical evidence linked to the suspect which they were checking for prints and DNA evidence.

Altoona police likely fingerprinted Mangione after his arrest in Pennsylvania Monday on fake ID and firearms charges and uploaded them to a law enforcement database the same day, according to Paul Mauro, a former NYPD inspector.

From there, investigators in New York could quickly match them with samples recovered in the Big Apple after the murder.

Altoona police said they found a black 3D-printed pistol and a black suppressor when they arrested Mangione.

“The pistol had a metal slide and a plastic handle with a metal threaded barrel,” according to court documents. “The pistol had one loaded Glock magazine with six nine-millimeter full metal jacket rounds.”

The NYPD previously said it recovered both spent casings and unfired rounds from outside the Hilton hotel, where Thompson was murdered on Wednesday, Dec. 4. The shells had writing on them, according to authorities, including the words “deny,” “defend” and “depose.”

Those words are similar to the title of a book critical of the health care industry, “Delay, Deny, Defend: Why Insurance Companies Don’t Pay Claims and What You Can Do About It.” Although Mangione had an active Goodreads account, that particular missive was not on his reading list.

But investigators said they were looking into whether a denied claim played a role in the slaying.

Mangione is being held without bail in a Pennsylvania jail awaiting extradition to New York to face murder and other charges.

His lawyer said in court Tuesday that he planned to fight extradition, potentially delaying his transfer to New York custody by days or weeks.

He is also facing firearms and other charges in Pennsylvania, where police say they found him with a 3D-printed ghost gun, the same fake ID he used to check into a New York hostel, and $10,000 cash.

Local prosecutors said they planned to move forward with their case but the more serious homicide charges out of state will take precedence.

The New York Mets, who already landed Juan Soto on a record-breaking $765 million deal, were reportedly also in the running for Crochet’s services next season. The Red Sox, a team with a deep farm system, unloaded four top-15 prospects to get the deal done, per MLB Pipeline.

What the Red Sox get in return is a budding star in their rotation, which needed a stud from the left side. Crochet is also under cheap team control for two years before becoming a free agent in 2027.

YANKEES SIGN ACE PITCHER TO HISTORIC CONTRACT AFTER LOSING JUAN SOTO SWEEPSTAKES: REPORTS

The White Sox made all the wrong MLB history last season with the worst record ever in a single year, but Crochet was a lone bright spot on the roster.

In his first All-Star season, Crochet pitched to a 3.58 ERA over 146 innings with 209 strikeouts and 33 walks.

His swing-and-miss stuff is what the Red Sox hope can be delivered at Fenway Park and beyond this season as a top-line rotation piece.

After the New York Yankees landed Max Fried, another reported Red Sox target in free agency, on an eight-year deal, Boston GM Craig Breslow quickly pivoted to Crochet to make sure they got a key piece for 2025 and beyond.

The Red Sox are not expected to be done, however. They were in on the Soto sweepstakes while also checking in on other position players as they hope to build a team worthy of reaching the postseason.

We need to know whether the drones over New Jersey pose a threat to the homeland

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Two years ago, a Chinese balloon the size of three school buses hovered 60,000 feet in the air, drifting across the continental U.S. for seven days. It passed over sensitive security areas, including Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana, that’s home to stockpiles of missiles and nuclear defense infrastructure. Only after it was shot down did we learn this “civilian research airship” that President Biden claimed “was not a major security breach,” was communicating with China through an American internet service provider and equipped with thousands of pounds of equipment, including a “massive surveillance payload.”

One would think the President of the United States and our nation’s federal law enforcement agencies would have learned a lesson from this blatant security breach, however, dozens of mysterious drones have been spotted in the skies across New Jersey and New York City in recent weeks, suspiciously near Picatinny Arsenal Military Base, Trump National Golf Club Bedminster and the Verrazzano Bridge in my district which connects Brooklyn’s U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hamilton and Staten Island’s U.S. Coast Guard Station New York, the largest of its kind on the East Coast.

US MILITARY RESEARCH CENTER DENIES NJ DRONES ARE THEIRS

We know by the sheer size of these aircraft that they are not commercially available drones; some have been described as 15 feet long, “unusually large,” or similar to the size of a car. The drones are so large and prevalent that a medevac helicopter in New Jersey was blocked from picking up a seriously injured accident victim.

Despite requesting briefings from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and urging the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to impose temporary drone flight restrictions until the origins of these devices can be identified, our federal agencies tasked with keeping us safe have no idea where these drones are coming from or who may be operating them.

In a House Homeland Security Committee hearing this week, I asked officials from the FBI if these drones could potentially be our own, as there are federal programs that test unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), such as the System Assessment and Validation for Emergency Responders (SAVER) program which supports emergency response agencies by providing assessments of commercially available equipment, including drones, to aid in purchasing decisions. SAVER’s recommendations enhance law enforcement’s capabilities in handling complex threats, hazardous material detection and protecting public safety.

The answer was: “I don’t know that to be the case, and I couldn’t really comment on that.”

This would be the best-case scenario because New Jersey has taken an active role in increasing the visibility of UAS technology. The SAVER program has been working to integrate drones into their public safety applications, such as search and rescue, disaster response and damage assessments, and the New Jersey Institute of technology also participated in a first-of-its-kind ship-to-shore drone delivery to demonstrate the capacity of UAS to provide lifesaving aid to victims of a disaster, such as a hurricane or system-wide failure of electrical or communications infrastructure. The National Urban Security Technology Laboratory (NUSTL) has also been testing UAS platforms in New York City to gain more knowledge about how these devices can overcome urban challenges, like high-rise structures, dense populations and diverse environmental conditions.

However, the NYPD and our local military bases have no knowledge of these tests occurring either.

At the hearing, the FBI said these drones could range from “sophisticated state actors/adversaries” that want to hurt us, all the way to “counterterrorism matters” to just a “nuisance drone” that could cause harm, but they “don’t know the answer” to our questions yet.

During the same hearing, my colleague, Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey suggested they just shoot one out of the sky to figure it out. In his district, an officer from the Ocean County Sherriff’s Office witnessed 50 drones come in off the water.

The safety and security of the American people must always be our top priority, and we need to know whether these devices pose a threat to our homeland. While drones can be a tremendous tool for our law enforcement agencies, unchecked and unidentified flights near sensitive locations demands immediate action and close coordination across our federal agencies. The fact that the current administration and its agencies have neither intercepted these objects nor acted with urgency is shocking, concerning and unacceptable.

Anything less than real answers and an action plan leaves us vulnerable to threats we cannot afford to ignore.

Chicken, espresso and hot honey among popular picks in Grubhub’s 2024 report

Grubhub has released its annual end-of-year report on the food trends of American consumers, analyzing orders placed throughout 2024.

Chicken was the top protein of 2024, espresso orders spiked in the summer and hot honey was a popular pick at the grocery store this year, the report noted.

The data breaks down orders made to businesses such as restaurants, grocery stores and convenience stores and delivered to customers at home, work, college campuses and hotel rooms, among other places.

The new report “highlighted the undeniable influence of social media and pop culture on the foods we crave and order,” Grubhub spokesperson Christoppher Krautler told Fox News Digital.

Protein is popular

Protein was popular in 2024 – and chicken led the way.

Chicken was included in nearly 40% of all Grubhub restaurant orders, and poultry was part of Grubhub grocery store orders almost three times as often as beef.

June was the first month with a noticeable spike in demand, Krautler said – around the time that people started baking cottage cheese in the oven as part of a social media trend.
