CA school stops disciplining students for shirts protesting trans athlete as movement spreads to more schools

0

A California high school caved to a student uprising after hundreds of students showed up wearing T-shirts that read “Save Girls’ Sports” to protest a trans athlete on the cross-country team, defying the school’s latest dress code.

The school had previously put students in detention for wearing the shirts. But a source told Fox News Digital that the school did not dress-code students when they showed up wearing the shirts on Wednesday.

Parents of the school’s students provided an update to California Family Council outreach director Sophia Lorey, claiming that administrators had a meeting Wednesday morning where faculty was instructed not to dress-code students, Lorey told Fox News Digital.

“Today students once again wore their ‘Save Girls Sports’ shirts,” Lorey wrote to Fox News Digital. “According to the email sent out earlier this week from MLK HS Principal Leann Iacuone only the shirts that stated ‘XX=/XY’ should receive a dress code. Yet, as of now no student who is wearing that shirt today has received a dress code. I received information that there was a staff meeting today before school were the staff was told not to dress code.”

Lorey added that students at neighboring schools have begun to wear the T-shirts as Martin Luther King’s situation has garnered national attention. These schools include Arlington High School and Riverside Polytechnical High School, which share a school district with Martin Luther King. Ramona High School in Ramona, California, which is 83 miles south of Riverside, has also seen its students wear the shirts.

The students have worn the shirts every Wednesday, resulting in discipline by school administrators. But detention and dress code violations never shuttered their spirit.

Many students at the school have gone viral on social media by sharing details of the situation with photos and videos of them wearing the shirts. The student uprising came amid an ongoing lawsuit over two girls’ cross-country runners who alleged their T-shirts were compared to swastikas by school administrators.

Another student athlete on the school’s cross-country team, Rylee Morrow, brought more national attention to the situation when she gave an impassioned speech at a school board meeting in November in a clip that went viral due to her conveyed fears of having to share a locker room with a biological male.

Lorey commended the students for taking a stand and pushing the school district to withdraw its discipline on Wednesday.

“By wearing their ‘Save Girls Sports’ shirts, these young leaders are showing that they won’t back down in the face of pressure or opposition – even from their own administration. It’s not just about athletics—it’s about standing up for the integrity and rights of female athletes everywhere,” Lorey wrote.

But anti-trans messaging isn’t the only social media activity that has erupted from the school.

SJSU TRANSGENDER VOLLEYBALL SCANDAL: TIMELINE OF ALLEGATIONS, POLITICAL IMPACT AND A RAGING CULTURE MOVEMENT

On Wednesday, a trans athlete at the school allegedly made a private post on Instagram lashing out against detractors who have questioned and opposed trans inclusion on the school’s girls’ cross-country team. Multiple sources, including Lorey, have confirmed the message was posted to the athlete’s private Instagram story.

The athlete also allegedly expressed an intention to compete in girls’ pole-vaulting and said that competing against male opponents resulted in disappointing finishes.

In a statement previously provided to Fox News Digital, the Riverside Unified School District (RUSD) said it has allowed the transgender athlete to compete on the team because it must comply with California state law.

“It is important to remember that RUSD is bound to follow California law which requires that students be ‘permitted to participate in sex-segregated school programs and activities, including athletic teams and competitions consistent with his or her gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil’s records,'” the statement said.

“While these rules were not created by RUSD, the district is committed to complying with the law and CIF regulations. California state law prohibits discrimination of students based on gender, gender identity and gender expression and specifically prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender in physical education and athletics. The protections we provide to all students are not only aligned with the law but also with our core values, which include equity and well-being.”

The school said those who are upset by it should direct their anger to state and federal lawmakers.

“As these matters play out in our courts and the media, opposition and protests should be directed at those in a position to affect those laws and policies, including officials in Washington, D.C., and Sacramento,” the statement said.

California has had laws in effect to protect transgender athletes in women’s sports since 2014. That year, AB 1266 took effect, giving California students at scholastic and collegiate levels the right to “participate in sex-segregated school programs and activities, including athletic teams and competitions, and use facilities consistent with his or her gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil’s records.”

Other high school and college students in California have expressed opposition to trans athletes in girls’ sports.

The girls’ volleyball team at Stone Ridge Christian High School in Merced was scheduled to face San Francisco Waldorf in the Northern California Division 6 tournament in November, but it forfeited in an announcement just before the match over the presence of a trans athlete. Those girls were commended at a ceremony held by women’s athletic rights activist Riley Gaines at their own high school on Dec. 4.

Meanwhile, another California transgender high school volleyball player was booed and harassed at an Oct. 12 match between Notre Dame Belmont and Half Moon Bay High School, according to ABC 7. Half Moon Bay rostered the transgender athlete.

At the college level, San Jose State’s volleyball team was at the center of a national media firestorm this season over the presence of a transgender athlete on the team and a teammate being involved in multiple lawsuits over the issue. The team saw eight of its matches forfeited, including a conference tournament match, amid the controversy, which only brought more national attention to the team as it made it all the way to the Mountain West championship game.

Marine critic of Afghan withdrawal to lead rank-and-file enlistees in Senate visits promoting Hegseth

0

EXCLUSIVE: A Marine lieutenant colonel from Ohio who publicly spoke out against the Afghanistan withdrawal will lead rank-and-file service members door-to-door in the Senate next week in support of defense nominee Pete Hegseth.

Stuart Scheller, who was imprisoned in a Jacksonville, N.C., brig for his public criticisms of military brass, told Fox News Digital Wednesday he is organizing enlisted men and women to engage with senators next Wednesday.

Scheller stressed that service members who are participating are not prominent fellows at think tanks or in any governmental or related seats of power.

“Pete has made public comments that he wants to move to a meritocracy, and he believes that we need more courage in the ranks. So, I’m not saying that I wouldn’t have been reprimanded [if he was secretary],” Scheller said.

MCCAUL: SADLY IRONIC THAT MARINE HELD IN BRIG AT LEJEUNE WHILE BIDEN WH LACKS ACCOUNTABILITY

“I still think there probably was some reprimand that needed to happen, but it would go across the board.

“The difference is, if Pete was the secretary of defense, the general officers would have also been held accountable [for the botched withdrawal], and I would not have had to go to the lengths that I had to go to bring attention to the situation.”

Scheller said that, in the last decade or two, the U.S. military is “not winning anything, and we need to turn it into a winning organization.”

Scheller said Hegseth has planned to hold accountable Pentagon leaders who have “become stagnant” in the lieutenant colonel’s words.

He also stressed that Hegseth is the first Pentagon nominee in decades who is not from the officer corps or defense contracting firms.

Outgoing Secretary Lloyd Austin III is a retired CENTCOM general but also came from the board of Raytheon.

“Forty years to become a four-star general really removes you from the forces,” Scheller said of the past several officer-corps secretary choices overall.

“Pete’s middle management — a major. I mean, he’s like the perfect guy … and he’s been sitting here talking to veterans when he was developing his book, trying to understand their pulse and the heartbeat. So, that book that he wrote probably prepared him in terms of the current culture and sentiment and frustrations more than any other secretary of defense.”

As for his plans for the Hill next week, Scheller said he and fellow service members are focused on those who may appear to be on the fence about Hegseth.

“I’m looking for more [of] the right people than the total quantity,” he said.

Scheller will also release a video announcing his Wednesday mission.

“[Hegseth] is a combat veteran from our generation and … he’s not a puppet for the military industrial complex. He’s not going to end up on one of their boards like every general officer of our generation,” Scheller says in the video.

“I’m going to be in Washington, D.C., walking through the halls of the U.S. Senate, talking to all the U.S. senators, advocating for peace.”

Bill Belichick finalizing deal to become UNC’s next head football coach: reports

0

Look out Chapel Hill, Bill Belichick is coming.

Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels have reportedly finalized a deal for the 72-year-old coaching legend to become their next head football coach, per ESPN. The terms of the deal were not yet disclosed.

The six-time Super Bowl-winning coach remained interested in returning to the sidelines at some point in the future, but it was always expected that he would make his way back to the NFL after missing out on a new gig following his departure from the New England Patriots before this season.

Fox News Digital contacted the UNC Athletic Department on Tuesday and requested comment on Belichick’s reported offer. However, school officials declined to provide a comment.

“We don’t comment on coaching searches,” an athletic department spokesperson wrote.

Earlier this week, The Guardian US reported that Belichick agreed to become the new head coach in Chapel Hill. The report added that Belichick handed the school a 400 page “organizational bible” with structure, payment plans, staffing choices etc.

Furthermore, the 72-year-old spoke with UNC athletic leaders about a succession plan. Per the report, Stephen Belichick would become the coach in waiting and would step in when his father decides to leave the program or retire.

Less than 24 hours later, UNC seemed to have reached its decision and is soon expected to confirm Belichick as the program’s next coach. Details pertaining to an introductory press conference remain unclear.

This will mark Belichick’s first stint as a college football coach. His father, Steve Belichick, was a longtime assistant coach at Navy.

Belichick has spent much of the ongoing NFL season in the media spotlight.

While he interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons in January, the franchise opted against extending an offer to a coach. Belichick did not appear to draw much interest from any other NFL team, but his regular appearances on ESPN’s “ManningCast” and the CW’s “Inside the NFL” have kept him relatively close to football.

During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” earlier this week, Belichick confirmed he had talks with the North Carolina Tar Heels about their head coaching vacancy. He added that he spent the 11 months since his departure from the Patriots taking a “longer look” at college football throughout the season as opposed to during the spring lead-up to the draft as a pro coach.

“So it’s been, it’s been a good year for me. I’ve learned a lot,” Belichick said. “So I’ve had the opportunity to talk to Chancellor Roberts and we’ve had a couple of good conversations. So we’ll see how it goes.”

Belichick opted not to go into more detail when asked by McAfee. Instead, Belichick offered a quip about his reputation for giving terse responses during news conferences with the Patriots.

“Yeah, let’s just leave it at that, Pat,” Belichick said with a grin. “I mean, I don’t want to give out too much information. I want to get my press conference aura back.”

Belichick shared some details about the makeup of a college program if he were a head coach.

“If I was in a college program, the college program would be a pipeline to the NFL for the players that had the ability to play in the NFL,” he said. “It would be a professional program — training, nutrition, scheme, coaching and techniques that would transfer to the NFL.”

Belichick is one of the winningest coaches in NFL history. He finished the 2023 season with 333 career wins — which places him in second on the all-time coaches wins list. Don Shula’s 347 wins still leads all coaches.

New poll reveals what Americans think of Trump’s transition decisions

0

Roughly half of Americans approve of how President-elect Trump is handling his transition to a second term in the White House, according to two new national polls.

Fifty-five percent of Americans said they largely approve of how the president-elect is handling the transition from the Biden to Trump administrations, according to a CNN poll released on Wednesday.

That’s a higher percentage compared to eight years ago, when Trump first won the White House, but it’s still well behind other recent presidents, according to CNN polling.

Meanwhile, 47% of people questioned in a Marist Poll also released on Tuesday gave the former and future president a thumbs up when it comes to how he’s handling the transition, with 39% disapproving and 14% unsure.

Not surprisingly, the Marist survey indicates a massive partisan divide on the question, with 86% of Republicans approving of how the GOP president-elect is handling the transition. But 72% of Democrats disapproved. Among independents, 43% disapproved and 38% approved.

“Although more people support Trump’s transition than oppose it, more independents are taking a wait and see position than more partisan voters,” Marist Institute for Public Opinion director Lee Miringoff said.

Miringoff added that “a note of caution for President-elect Trump is that fewer voters approve of the transition than gave a thumbs up to either Biden or Obama at this point.”

Marist questioned 3,131 adults nationwide from Dec. 3-5 for their survey, with an overall margin of error of plus or minus 2.1 percentage points.

The CNN poll was conducted Dec. 5-8, with an overall sampling error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.

The release of the polls came as Trump’s cabinet picks continued to meet with senators on Capitol Hill, ahead of confirmation hearings starting next month.

‘Duck Dynasty’ star Phil Robertson forces himself to eat as he battles Alzheimer’s, plans to ‘keep the faith’

0

“Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson will continue to “fight the fight” as he battles losing his appetite after his Alzheimer’s diagnosis.

On the most recent episode of “Unashamed with the Robertson Family” podcast, Phil’s son Jase relayed his father’s wishes to thank fans for their outpouring of prayers. Jase noted his father is keeping “the faith” as he battles his diagnosis.

Phil’s other son, Alan Robertson, was also on the podcast episode and explained he told his wife, Lisa, that he was not expecting his father to get the response he did after sharing that his health is declining.

“The outpouring of love, of support, of prayer … is almost a bit overwhelming for me,” Alan said.

‘DUCK DYNASTY’ STAR PHIL ROBERTSON DIAGNOSED WITH ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE

Jase noted that the original podcast episode that announced Phil’s diagnosis was released several days after they recorded it. When the podcast went live, Phil was able to have a moment of “reprieve” from the constant pain and loss of appetite he experienced.

“The outpouring of love, of support, of prayer … is almost a bit overwhelming for me.”

“During that little transition time, Phil had a little bit of a reprieve from, you know, his pain. Although his overall conditions remain the same, he just felt better. We had gone down to have lunch with him, you know Missy and I, because, you know, if you bring him really good food, you can persuade him to eat,” Jase said.

Jase noted that because of his father’s health condition, he is not “hungry at all” and has to “make himself eat.”

“I really feel like it was just the prayers,” Jase said of his father’s sudden boost in spirits. “Because, you know, for months, he’s been on a downward decline.”

Jase noted that prior to the podcast episode release, Phil was at the “lowest point in this whole process.”

“It was the first time I really saw some improvement. He felt a little better. We had a good conversation, and he was kind of in tune with the conversation,” Jase noted.

Since Phil was feeling a little better after the podcast released Friday, he decided to go to church Sunday.

Jase noted that he was beyond overwhelmed with the text messages he received after sharing his father’s diagnosis. Donald Trump Jr. stood out the most.

“You know, the President-elect’s son,” he said. “I was kind of overwhelmed. We are very appreciative of all the prayers.”

On Friday’s episode of “Unashamed with the Robertson Family” podcast, Jase revealed the diagnosis.

“Phil’s not doing well. I think I spoke on the 1,000th podcast. We were trying to figure out the diagnosis. But, according to the doctors, he has some sort of blood disease causing all kinds of problems,” Jase said.

“It’s like accelerated, and it’s causing problems with his entire body. And he has early stages of Alzheimer’s. So, if you put those things together, he’s really not doing well. He’s struggling.”

Phil was a big part of the “Unashamed” podcast, but due to the decline in his health, he is “unable to sit down and have a conversation,” Jase revealed. He also noted that, these days, his dad can barely walk around without “crying out in pain.”

“He misses it. He misses the stories we tell,” Jase said of the podcast.

Hannah Kobayashi found after monthlong disappearance, her family says

0

Missing Hawaii woman Hannah Kobayashi has been “found safe” about a month after surveillance footage captured her crossing into Mexico with a suitcase in a disappearance that made nationwide headlines.

Kobayashi’s mother Brandi Yee and her sister Sydni Kobayashi said they were “incredibly relieved and grateful that Hannah has been found safe” in a statement issued through their attorney, Sara Azari, on X on Wednesday.

“This past month has been an unimaginable ordeal for our family, and we kindly ask for privacy as we take the time to heal and process everything we have been through,” the family said.

“We want to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us during this difficult time,” the statement continued. “Your kindness and concern have meant the world to us.”

In a statement to People, Azari did not comment on the circumstances of when, where or how Kobayashi’s family contacted her, and said there would be no further statements at this time. Azari could not immediately be reached for comment.

Earlier this month, Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said surveillance footage and other evidence showed Kobayashi entering Mexico on foot, alone and carrying luggage, at the San Ysidro port of entry on Nov. 12. There was no evidence that she was “being trafficked or [was] the victim of foul play,” McDonnell said.

Larie Pidgeon, Kobayashi’s aunt, who has acted as a family spokesperson during their search, said at the time that her “worry for Hannah [had] not lessened.”

“Hannah never mentioned any plans to travel to Mexico, and no one in her life knew she intended to go there,” she previously told Fox News Digital. “What alarms me even more is her complete disconnection from her phone, her social media and her world – this is not who she is.”

Before Kobayashi was found, Pidgeon told Fox News Digital that she had “parted ways” with the rest of the family, saying that her “sole focus remain[ed] on finding Hannah” and that she intended to travel to Mexico to “verify that she is acting of her own free will and truly safe.”

Pidgeon later told NewsNation that she did not see why funds raised were being used on an attorney rather than a private investigator.

Kobayashi flew from Hawaii to Los Angeles and was scheduled to take a connecting flight to New York on Nov. 8, with a 42-minute layover at 11 a.m., but did not board a flight despite a detailed itinerary and a booked hotel room in New York City.

Previously, Pidgeon told Fox News Digital that friends and family received a flurry of bizarre text messages from Kobayashi after her missed flight that didn’t match her usual cadence. She texted a friend that she “got tricked into pretty much giving away all my funds” and that she was tricked “for someone I thought I loved.”

“She [wrote she] was having a spiritual awakening, that she was concerned about the matrix. It was just the most bizarre text messages,” Pidgeon previously said. “And it went from, ‘Hi, I can’t wait to see you guys. Love you. Everything’s great.'”

Ryan Kobayashi, the 30-year-old’s father, was found dead on Nov. 24 of an apparent suicide after jumping from a parking structure in Los Angeles, while he and his family were searching for the missing woman.

Los Angeles Magazine reported that Kobayashi had fallen victim to an immigration scheme before going missing. Kobayashi’s mother reportedly found documents in her daughter’s Hawaii home that listed an immigration attorney, according to the outlet, and turned that information over to law enforcement.

But family attorney Azari wrote in a post on X that the family “has not confirmed the authenticity of the images or the accuracy of the information provided about a possible secret marriage… we did not have the facts or the necessary documents to verify the legitimacy of this information.”

124 Dems oppose historically bipartisan defense bill over restrictions on transgender treatments for minors

0

The House voted Wednesday to pass its yearly defense bill that would give junior enlisted troops a significant pay bump and work to eliminate DEI programs at the Pentagon.

It passed 281-140, with 16 Republicans voting no. Only 81 Democrats voted yes – 124 voting no – a much larger margin than in years passed when the legislation typically enjoyed bipartisan support.

Many Democrats opposed a provision of the bill that restricts coverage of transgender treatments for minors.

The legislation now heads to the Senate for passage before heading to President Joe Biden’s desk for signature.

The 1,800-page bill known as the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), details how $895.2 billion allocated toward defense and national security will be spent. It will be voted on more than two months after the start of the fiscal year.

The $895.2 billion represents a 1% increase over last year’s budget, a smaller number than some defense hawks would have liked.

A significant portion of the legislation focused on quality-of-life improvements for service members amid record recruitment issues, a focus of much bipartisan discussion over the last year. That includes a 14.5% pay increase for junior enlisted troops and increasing access to child care for service members while also providing job support to military spouses.

The measure authorizes a 4.5% across-the-board pay raise for all service members starting Jan. 1.

The NDAA typically enjoys wide bipartisan support, but this year’s focus on eliminating “woke” policies could be hard for Democrats to stomach.

PENTAGON ANNOUNCES NEW COUNTER-DRONE STRATEGY AS UNMANNED ATTACKS ON US INTERESTS SKYROCKET

The policy proposal to prohibit Tricare, the military’s health care provider, from covering transgender services for the minor dependents of service members has raised concerns, prompting the leading Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Adam Smith of Washington, to reconsider his support for the bill.

“Blanketly denying health care to people who clearly need it, just because of a biased notion against transgender people, is wrong,” he said in a statement. “This provision injected a level of partisanship not traditionally seen in defense bills.”

The goal of that provision is to prevent any “medical interventions that could result in sterilization” of minors.

Other provisions, like a blanket ban on funding for gender transition surgeries for adults, did not make their way into the bill, neither did a ban on requiring masks to prevent the spread of diseases.

The bill also supports deploying the National Guard to the southern border to help with illegal immigrant apprehensions and drug flow.

Another provision opens the door to allowing airmen and Space Force personnel to grow facial hair; it directs the secretary of the Air Force to brief lawmakers on “the feasibility and advisability” of establishing a pilot program to test out allowing beards.

HERE IS WHO IS VYING FOR POWER IN SYRIA AFTER THE FALL OF BASHAR AL-ASSAD

Democrats are also upset the bill did not include a provision expanding access to IVF for service members. Currently, military health care only covers IVF for troops whose infertility is linked to service-related illness or injury.

But the bill did not include an amendment to walk back a provision allowing the Pentagon to reimburse service members who have to travel out of state to get an abortion.

The bill extends a hiring freeze on DEI-related roles and stops all such recruitment until “an investigation of the Pentagon’s DEI programs” can be completed.

It also bans the Defense Department from contracting with advertising companies “that blacklist conservative news sources,” according to an internal GOP memo.

The memo said the NDAA also guts funding for the Biden administration’s “Countering Extremist Activity Working Group” dedicated to rooting out extremism in the military’s ranks. The annual defense policy bill also does not authorize “any climate change programs” and prohibits the Pentagon from issuing climate impact-based guidance on weapons systems.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., touted $31 billion in savings in the legislation that would come from cutting “inefficient programs, obsolete weapons, and bloated Pentagon bureaucracy.”

WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes silent over Caitlin Clark wanting to use her platform to ‘elevate’ Black women

Four-time WNBA champion Sheryl Swoopes has been one of Caitlin Clark’s most outspoken critics.

But Swoopes was left speechless during a recent podcast appearance after being asked about the Indiana Fever star’s remarks about her privilege as a White athlete in an interview with Time magazine after being named Athlete of the Year.

Swoopes, who was the first player ever signed to the WNBA, admitted on the “Gil’s Arena” podcast Wednesday that Clark receiving the honor was “great” for the league, but she questioned the criteria for what went into Time’s selection.

“My question is — like the criteria — is it based off her performance on the court, which, yeah, she had a great year. Or is it more about the impact that she had on the game this season.

“I think it’s great, not just for her. I think it’s great for the league, right? Like everybody talked about the recognition she brought to the W this season, and, so, for her to be Time magazine Athlete of the Year I think it’s really great for the league.”

CAITLIN CLARK ADMITS FEELING ‘PRIVILEGE’ AS A WHITE PERSON, SAYS WNBA WAS ‘BUILT ON’ BLACK PLAYERS

But Swoopes had less to say when she was asked what she thought of Clark’s admission to the magazine that she benefited from her privilege.

“I want to say I’ve earned every single thing, but as a White person, there is privilege,” Clark said in the interview.

“A lot of those players in the league that have been really good have been Black players. This league has kind of been built on them. The more we can appreciate that, highlight that, talk about that, and then continue to have brands and companies invest in those players that have made this league incredible, I think it’s very important. I have to continue to try to change that. The more we can elevate Black women, that’s going to be a beautiful thing.”

When asked during Wednesday’s podcast about those remarks, Swoopes said nothing.

She appeared to raise an eyebrow and nod before the topic was changed.

Swoopes has faced criticism in the past over her hot takes on Clark. In September, Swoopes said she didn’t think Clark was “dominating” the league. Clark was later named WNBA Rookie of the Year.

Border sheriff ignores county’s new policy that blocks cooperation with ICE immigration enforcement

0

The San Diego County sheriff says her office will not change its practices with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after the county’s board of supervisors moved to further restrict that cooperation ahead of the Trump administration taking office next year.

“The sheriff’s office will not change its practices based on the board resolution and policy that was passed at today’s meeting,” Sheriff Kelly Martinez’s office said in a statement. “The board of supervisors does not set policy for the sheriff’s office. The sheriff, as an independently elected official, sets the policy for the sheriff’s office.”

The statement came after a 3-1 vote by the San Diego County Board of Supervisors on a resolution to restrict ICE cooperation with local law enforcement.

The resolution says the county will not provide assistance or cooperation to ICE, “including by giving ICE agents access to individuals or allowing them to use County facilities for investigative interviews or other purposes, expending County time or resources responding to ICE inquiries or communicating with ICE regarding individuals’ incarceration status or release dates, or otherwise participating in any civil immigration enforcement activities.”

When ICE is aware of suspected illegal immigrants in local or state custody, it will file a detainer with law enforcement, typically requesting that the agency is notified ahead of the suspected illegal immigrants’ release and, in some cases, that they be held until ICE can take custody of them.

ICE says this helps detain illegal immigrants without having to go into communities and gets illegal immigrant offenders off the streets. Sanctuary proponents say that such policies chill cooperation between law enforcement and otherwise law-abiding illegal immigrants.

BLUE STATE COUNTY TEES UP VOTE ON ‘KNEE-JERK’ RESOLUTION TO PROTECT ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS FROM DEPORTATION

When federal immigration authorities, including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Border Patrol coerce local law enforcement to carry out deportations, family members are separated and community trust in law enforcement and local government is destroyed,” an overview of the resolution claims.

“Witnesses and victims who are undocumented or who have loved ones who are undocumented are afraid to come to the County for help, which includes calling local law enforcement. This puts the public safety of all San Diegans at risk.”

Proponents of the resolution say California’s sanctuary law has too many loopholes and still allows agencies to notify ICE of release dates and transfer some individuals into their custody.

It was a claim with which Martinez disagreed.

“As the sheriff of San Diego County, my No. 1 priority is protecting the safety and well-being of all residents of our diverse region. While protecting the rights of undocumented immigrants is crucial, it is equally important to ensure that victims of crimes are not overlooked or neglected in the process,” she said.

The San Diego County Sheriff is a nonpartisan office, but Martinez has identified as a Democrat personally.

“Victims include undocumented individuals. These vulnerable individuals express to me that their legal status is used as a weapon against them when offenders from their community victimize them,” she said. “We must protect the well-being of individuals, including those who are undocumented, which requires a careful approach that upholds the principles of justice, fairness and compassion for all individuals involved.”

It comes ahead of what is expected to be a historic mass deportation campaign by the incoming Trump administration. Incoming border czar Tom Homan has said no one is off the table when it comes to deportations, although public safety threats will be the priority.

It’s been painful to see the FBI I served with pride for over 24 years be transformed into a political weapon by idealogues and anti-Trump partisans. Now the FBI faces the prospect of a new director who has a mandate to dramatically change how the FBI exercises the powers entrusted to it. The challenge is to dramatically overhaul the FBI without destroying this once venerated institution.

In 2013 BC (Before Comey) the FBI enjoyed the full confidence of Americans because it focused on the core mission and stayed out of politics. FBI agents dismantled violent gangs such as MS-13, splintered the powerful Colombian and Mexican drug cartels and virtually eliminated almost two dozen mafia families. The BC FBI captured global terrorists and disrupted the espionage activities of foreign intelligence services.

According to a Rasmussen poll, 64% of our citizens believe the FBI has been weaponized. The FBI simply cannot be effective without the support of the American public. Former FBI Director Chris Wray, who resigned on Wednesday, missed opportunities to right the ship. He will probably be replaced by President-elect Trump’s choice of Kash Patel.  The new FBI leadership team must regain the public’s trust and restore the concept of an FBI bereft of politics.

FBI DIRECTOR CHRISTOPHER WRAY ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION

Much of the FBI’s good will was squandered by its blatantly political investigation of the Trump campaign and its flagrant abuse of four FISA wiretaps on a Trump campaign operative based on an opposition research “dossier” commissioned by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. High-level FBI officials directing the investigation texted each other about their ability to “smell Trump supporters;” communicated intentions to “stop” Trump and spoke of executing on a purported FBI “insurance policy” against Trump taking office. The FBI leadership team set up an outrageously deceitful briefing of an incoming Cabinet member, respected Army Gen. Mike Flynn, that resulted in his entrapment.

Compare two different FBI cases focused on so-called “foreign interference with an election.” When allegations surfaced in 2015 that the Russians were attempting to influence the Trump campaign, the FBI promptly initiated an investigation, but incredibly it was not focused on the Russian operatives. Instead, they levied their most Draconian powers on Trump campaign officials.

The FBI infiltrated the campaign with informants, initiated four FISA wiretaps on a Trump campaign aide based on the trashy Clinton dossier and targeted Trump appointees and advisors for criminal prosecution. Media leaks by FBI executives were ubiquitous.

TRUMP SAYS WRAY RESIGNATION ‘GREAT DAY FOR AMERICA,’ TOUTS KASH PATEL AS ‘MOST QUALIFIED’ TO LEAD FBI

In 2024, when the Iranians were caught systematically hacking various Trump communications and feeding them to the Biden campaign, the FBI was conspicuously silent.

In 1982, as a young attorney, I joined the FBI to make a difference. There are thousands of skilled and dedicated FBI employees who joined for the same reason. They are starving for new leadership.

Contrast the reluctant investigation of the Clinton email fiasco and the genteel inquiry into Joe Biden’s reckless storage of classified government documents in the garage of his Delaware vacation home with the FBI’s aggressive predawn military raid on the private Mar-a-Lago residence of former President Trump and his later indictment by a zealous, but ultimately unconstitutional, Special Counsel. The BC FBI would never have abused its powers by conducting such an unnecessary intrusion into the private residence of a presidential candidate at the behest of his political opponent’s prosecutors.

GOP ATTORNEYS GENERAL OFFER SUPPORT FOR TRUMP FBI PICK KASH PATEL, URGE SENATORS TO DO THE SAME

The FBI conducted a similar military style raid on pro-Life activist Mark Houck, who was later acquitted by a jury. They scorched the Earth to identify and arrest many January 6 protesters, who, at worst, trespassed on the grounds.

Yet in the 2020 riots, Antifa and BLM perpetrated hundreds of arson attacks on government buildings and police vehicles, destroyed small businesses and took over entire city blocks. They assaulted police and obstructed public facilities, shutting down important government services. A Portland, Oregon, police station was attacked and abandoned to the rioters to avoid a bloodbath. These offenses against public order were either ignored or charges were dismissed. The FBI was conspicuously AWOL.

The FBI constantly warns about right-wing extremists and has opened thousands of such cases, but its hands-off the left-wing groups such as the destructive and sometimes violent Antifa, which they describe as “just a movement.”

One of the greatest embarrassments was the FBI’s lackluster investigation of the Biden family influence-peddling/money laundering scheme and backing the lie that the Hunter Biden laptop was “Russian disinformation.” In the BC FBI the movement of millions of dollars in illicit funds through dozens of offshore shell corporations for the implied or explicit rendering of special services to dubious characters working on behalf of foreign enemies and operatives would have triggered an exhaustive investigation with no stone unturned. In a stunning abuse of its powers, the FBI influenced the powerful social media companies to censor any postings that challenged their Russian disinformation narrative.

Yet the FBI must be salvaged. The country needs a federal law enforcement/ intelligence agency that is formidable and sets the standard for excellence. Four years of open borders has facilitated the entry of terror cells capable of inflicting multiple mass terror attacks such that perpetrated against the Israelis. Over 30,000 young Chinese males have illegally entered our country via a network of Chinese-funded safe houses. Many are intelligence operatives dispatched to steal critical technology and state secrets. South American gangs are terrorizing entire neighborhoods. Mexican drug cartels have become the richest and most powerful criminal enterprises in the world. We need an FBI that is up to the task of urgently addressing these threats.

They are starving for new leadership to restore the FBI to its status as the most respected law enforcement/intelligence agency in the world. However, it won’t demonstrate great leadership to just tear the FBI down.

The incoming leadership team should thoughtfully overhaul the FBI and drain the FBI swamp created by 10 years of partisan influence without doing irreparable harm. That is what the American people expect and deserve.
