NFL Commish Roger Goodell says Jay-Z’s relationship with league remains intact amid sexual assault allegations

0

Music mogul Jay-Z founded Roc Nation in 2008, and the entertainment company has handled the production of the Super Bowl halftime show for the past several years.

A rape allegation was recently brought against the rapper and businessman.

While NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he was aware of the allegations, he quickly dismissed concerns the situation would negatively alter Jay-Z’s working relationship with the league.

“We’re aware of the civil allegations and Jay-Z’s really strong response to that,” Goodell said Wednesday after the NFL’s winter meetings. “We know the litigation is happening now. From our standpoint, our relationship is not changing with them, including our preparations for the next Super Bowl.”

A woman sued Sean “Diddy” Combs, alleging she was sexually assaulted at an awards show after-party in 2000, when she was 13.

On Sunday, the lawsuit was amended to include a new allegation that Jay-Z was also at the party and participated in an illegal sexual act.

Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, denied the allegations and asserted the rape accusation made against him was part of an extortion attempt. He also called the allegations “idiotic” and “heinous in nature” in a statement released by Roc Nation, one of his companies.

“My lawyer received a blackmail attempt, called a demand letter, from a ‘lawyer’ named Tony Buzbee,” Jay-Z shared in a statement posted on Roc Nation’s X account. “What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle.”

Kendrick Lamar has been tapped for the Super Bowl halftime show at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans Feb. 9. Roc Nation and Emmy-winning producer Jesse Collins will serve as co-executive producers of the halftime show.

Beyoncé, who is married to Jay-Z, will perform at halftime of the Christmas Day game between the Ravens and Texans in Houston. Beyoncé, who has more Grammys than any other artist in history, was born in Houston.

“I think they’re getting incredibly comfortable with not just with the Super Bowl but other events they’ve advised us on and helped us with,” Goodell said. “They’ve been a big help in the social justice area to us on many occasions. They’ve been great partners.”

Kathy Hilton keeps explicit photos of herself ‘safe in the bank’

Kathy Hilton is opening up about what it takes to have a successful marriage.

The 65-year-old designer and actress recently celebrated 45 years of marriage to her husband, businessman Rick Hilton, and she shared the secret to her long-lasting marriage.

“You have to keep a little mystery,” she told Fox News Digital while hosting the DirecTV Celebrates “Christmas at Kathy’s” event. The annual event is held at Kathy’s home and supports the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Guests are encouraged to donate unwrapped gifts to benefit families living in Ronald McDonald Houses across the nation.

Kathy and Rick first met as teenagers and tied the knot in November 1979. Since getting married, the couple has welcomed four children together — Paris, Nikki, Barron and Conrad.

She gave further insight into her marriage on Tuesday night’s episode of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” which she has been appearing on since its 11th season in May 2011. When asked by her sister, Kyle Richards, if she and Rick have ever texted each other explicit photos, Kathy surprised everyone with her answer.

“We have a couple in the safe in the bank,” Kathy shared, adding she and Rick have never sent each other nude photos via text message. “Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, they have those beds with the big mirror. Seriously, it’s so sexy.”

Daniel Penny says he wants to thank the NYC jury for their ‘courage’

0

Marine veteran Daniel Penny said he’d like to thank the jury that found him not guilty of criminally negligent homicide in the 2023 subway chokehold death of Jordan Neely.

“I’d like to give them a hug. I’d like to thank them. Yeah, definitely. It takes a lot of courage, especially in this climate in New York City, to stick up for me,” he told “The Five” co-host Judge Jeanine Pirro in a preview Wednesday of an exclusive interview airing on Fox Nation.

Penny’s defense attorneys, Steven Raiser and Thomas Kenniff, expressed their concerns about the trajectory of the trial when Judge Maxwell Wiley dismissed the second-degree manslaughter charge against Penny after the jury said it couldn’t come to a unanimous decision about the top charge.

Once the manslaughter charge was removed and the jury could focus on the second charge, Raiser said they were concerned that somebody who’s considering a guilty verdict on the top count might be considering a guilty verdict on the second one, too.

“At that point, we thought the best we could really hope for was a hung jury, but we didn’t know. And we also did feel that there was some interplay here as far as understanding the lengths at which this district attorney’s office would go in order to secure a conviction, which was quite off-putting for the defense team,” he added. “We’ve never seen anything quite like it.”

DANIEL PENNY’S LAWYERS WEIGHING MALICIOUS PROSECUTION LAWSUIT AFTER TRIAL: ‘COLLUSION FROM THE VERY BEGINNING’

Penny said if he faced the same situation on the subway where someone was making threats and acting erratically, he would take action again.

“I would not be able to live with myself if I didn’t do anything in that situation and someone got hurt,” he said. “I would feel guilty for the rest of my life.”

The architecture student added that he feared Neely would act on his threats to kill people in the subway car.

“There’s outbursts on the train all the time. Unfortunately, in New York City, there’s always people coming on and saying, kind of, talking crazy, and this was unlike anything that I’ve ever experienced. It was very serious. I completely believed what he was saying,” Penny told Pirro.

WITNESS TO JORDAN NEELY CHOKEHOLD DEATH CALLS DANIEL PENNY A ‘HERO’

Penny still faces a civil lawsuit from Neely’s father, Andre Zachery, who accuses the 26-year-old of causing his son’s death through “negligence, carelessness and recklessness.”

Juan Soto’s record-breaking Mets contract includes specific uniform number request, among others: report

0

Juan Soto is the richest athlete in sports history.

However, $765 million apparently wasn’t enough for the newest New York Met.

Soto and the Mets made their record-breaking 15-year deal official Wednesday.

There had been reports earlier this week that the Yankees “wouldn’t budge” on giving Soto a suite at Yankee Stadium, and Yankees general manager Brian Cashman seemed to all but confirm that. But the Mets gave a suite to Soto.

The New York Post says that, along with the suite, Soto will also have four premium seats for home games and security for him and his family both at home and on the road.

His uniform number was another issue.

Since his MLB debut in 2018, Soto has worn No. 22 with the Nationals, Padres and Yankees. He will do the same with the Mets, and it is a part of his contract, the Post notes.

NHL COULD HAVE OUTDOOR GAME IN UNLIKELY LOCATION NEXT SEASON: REPORT

Brett Baty had worn the number with the Mets since 2022. It is common for stars who join new teams to give a hefty gift to whomever was wearing a preferred number. It’s unknown if Soto is giving Baty anything.

Either way, Baty doesn’t have a choice in the matter.

The Yankees said their reported 16-year, $760 million offer was “above and beyond our comfort level.” Cashman also noted that “some high-end players that make a lot of money for us, if they want suites, they buy them.”

But Cashman said the Yankees’ reluctance to give Soto a complementary suite did not factor into the team losing Soto to the Mets.

Tua Tagovailoa says he has armed security after burglaries at NFL players’ homes: ‘Think twice’

0

There’s a new burglary ring, and it’s targeting NFL players.

The homes of Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Joe Burrow have all been broken into recently, but it will be tough for anyone to get into Tua Tagovailoa’s place.

The Miami Dolphins quarterback said Wednesday he has “personal security” to keep him and his family safe.

Tagovailoa said he made the decision shortly after one of his cars was broken into.

“It’s a little too close for my comfort with my family being in the house. So, we got personal security to take care of all that. When we’re on the road, we got someone with my wife. We got someone surveying that house,” he said.

He then gave a stern warning.

“They are armed, so I hope if you decide to go to my house, you think twice.”

JOE BURROW’S HOUSE BURGLARIZED WHILE PLAYING COWBOYS ON MONDAY NIGHT: REPORT

Burrow’s home was burglarized while he was in Dallas facing the Cowboys Monday. The NFL recently sent out a memo regarding the incidents.

The league cautioned players to be on high alert after homes were hit last month that were believed to be tied to international organized crime.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported last month that the FBI is investigating the crime spree, “which is believed to be tied to a South American crime syndicate.”

According to the report, at least one other NFL player had his home burglarized.

In the memo, the league also urged players to take precautions, including installing home security systems. They were also encouraged not to post images of expensive items or live updates of their comings and goings on social media.

Patrick Mahomes bashes NFL for making Chiefs play on Christmas Day

0

The NFL scheduled a rare slate of Wednesday games this season to ensure it will have games played on Christmas Day, and Patrick Mahomes is not happy about it.

The Kansas City Chiefs are one of four teams that will have to spend their Christmas at work with a matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Baltimore Ravens will play the Houston Texans later that night. That will also mean Mahomes and his teammates will play three games in 11 days. They play the Cleveland Browns Dec. 15 and the Houston Texans Dec. 21.

Last year, the Chiefs faced the Las Vegas Raiders in a Christmas Day game, but that game was on a Monday.

The Chiefs will have less time than usual to prepare for both the Texans and Steelers games. The Houston matchup will be played on a Saturday, and the Steelers game is on a Monday.

Mahomes, who already had to give up his holiday for a football game, agonized over the idea of playing all those games in that short amount of time.

“It’s not a good feeling,” Mahomes told reporters Wednesday. “You never want to play this amount of games in this short of time. It’s not great for your body. But, at the end of the day, it’s your job, your profession. You have to come to work and do it.”

Mahomes was asked whether he has ever had three games in such a short span.

“I haven’t in football,” he replied.

“All you can do is focus on the game. The practice you have that day,” Mahomes added. “I try to prepare my body all year long for this stretch. That’s tailoring my workouts, tailoring how you practice and prepare.

“And the coaches do a great job of taking care of us on the practice field. We practice as hard as anybody, but they know how to dial it back when needed.”

On top of a strenuous workload, Mahomes and his family will not be able to spend Christmas at home this year for the second year in a row. Mahomes and wife Brittany are both Christians.

“My Christian faith plays a role in everything that I do,” he told reporters before the Super Bowl in February 2023. “I always ask God to lead me in the right direction and let me be who I am for His name. So, it has a role in everything that I do. Obviously, we’ll be on that huge stage in the Super Bowl that He’s given me, and I want to make sure I’m glorifying Him while I do it.

“I feel like I’ve grown in my faith these last few years, and I think that’s given me more sense of who I am and why I play the game. It just kind of relieves the pressure of playing a football game because I know that I’m on that football field to glorify Him before everything. So, it’s not about winning or losing. It’s about going out there and being the best that I can in His name.”

Brittany is pregnant with their third child.

The NFL has played on Wednesday in the past. The most recent Wednesday game was played in 2020, when the Steelers and Ravens had their game pushed back because of a COVID-19 outbreak.

In 2012, the NFL’s opener between the Giants and Cowboys was played on a Wednesday so the TV networks could broadcast Barack Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention.

But before those games, the NFL had not had a Wednesday game since the Lions and Rams played Sept. 22, 1948.

“It’s a unique situation. You just have to manage it,” said Chiefs coach Andy Reid, whose team will have played on every day of the week but Tuesday this season. “It is what it is. You make the best of it.”

It’s not as if the games involved in the Christmas stretch are throwaways, either. Each has significant playoff ramifications.

The Chiefs have already clinched the AFC West, but they are trying to fend off Buffalo and Pittsburgh for the No. 1 seed and a first-round playoff bye. The Steelers are two games ahead of the Ravens in the AFC North heading into this weekend and could clinch a playoff berth if things fall their way. The Texans are two games up on the Colts in the AFC South.

“The main thing is you get guys ready for the game. Give them a chance to get ready for the game,” Reid said. “They’re going to do whatever you present to them. You try to help them out with that. Right now we have a normal week right here. We have to take care of business here.”

Garland lauds ‘principled’ Wray for ‘integrity and skill’ after resignation announcement

0

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland praised FBI Director Christopher Wray on Wednesday as a leader who served the U.S. “honorably and with integrity” for two decades in the hours after Wray announced his plans to step down at the end of Biden’s presidency.

In a statement Wednesday, Garland lauded Wray’s multi-decade career as a civil servant and U.S. prosecutor, including as U.S. assistant attorney general and the head of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.

“Chris Wray has served our country honorably and with integrity for decades, including for seven years as the Director of the FBI under presidents of both parties,” Garland wrote Wednesday.

“In a heightened threat environment, Director Wray has worked tirelessly to protect the American people and to lead an agency of 38,000 dedicated public servants, many of whom put their lives on the line every day to serve their communities,” Garland wrote, praising his role in working to fulfill the Justice Department’s mission “to keep our country safe, protect civil rights, and uphold the rule of law.”

“He has led the FBI’s efforts to aggressively confront the broad range of threats facing our country — from nation-state adversaries and foreign and domestic terrorism to violent crime, cybercrime, and financial crime,” Garland said. “There are few leadership positions more central to keeping the American people safe than the Director of the FBI.”

The statement came shortly after Wray announced his plans to resign at Wednesday’s FBI town hall in Washington, D.C., which was attended by thousands of FBI employees virtually and in person. President-elect Donald Trump announced shortly after his election victory last month his nomination of Kash Patel to succeed Wray, giving Wray the option to either exit on his own or be fired after Trump takes office.

Patel told Fox News on Wednesday that he’s seeking a “smooth transition” to replace Wray.

“After weeks of careful thought, I’ve decided the right thing for the bureau is for me to serve until the end of the current administration in January and then step down,” Wray told employees during the town hall. “My goal is to keep the focus on our mission, the indispensable work you’re doing on behalf of the American people every day. In my view, this is the best way to avoid dragging the bureau deeper into the fray while reinforcing the values and principles that are so important to how we do our work.”

Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever sold 90 times more tickets on StubHub this year than in 2023

0

It goes without saying that Caitlin Clark has led the WNBA into another stratosphere.

Clark’s presence after being selected first overall by the Indiana Fever led to historic viewership and attendance numbers.

And if you missed out on your chance to see her through the primary ticket market, the secondary market was hot and heavy.

StubHub saw wild numbers in WNBA ticket sales, most notably for Clark’s Indiana Fever.

According to StubHub, total sales for the 2024 WNBA regular season were up nearly 10 times compared to the 2023 season, with every team seeing an increase in sales.

But no team saw more growth than the Fever, who had 90 times more tickets sold on StubHub this season than in 2023. The team with the second-highest increase was Angel Reese’s Chicago Sky, and the Fever’s sales were nearly double (93% more).

Several WNBA playoff games without Clark still had fewer viewers than Clark’s regular-season games, and the Clark-Reese battles had viewership that hadn’t been seen in over two decades.

Clark was named the Rookie of the Year for her historic campaign during which she set the record for the most assists in one season in league history.

Clark carried the Fever to a playoff appearance after a slow start, and she quickly became a double-double machine. She even set a single-game record with 19 assists. She also became the first rookie to record a triple-double, registering two of them.
