CNN reports that the suspect wanted in the killing of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson on Wednesday may have traveled by Greyhound bus from Atlanta to New York.
The bus started its route in Atlanta, but law enforcement does not know if the suspect boarded in Atlanta or at a stop during the 19-hour journey, sources told CNN.
A Greyhound spokesperson told CNN that the company is “fully cooperating with authorities on this active investigation.”
Police believe the gunman arrived in New York City on Nov. 24, arriving at Port Authority bus terminal in Manhattan before checking into a hostel on the Upper Westside. The suspect paid in cash and used a fake New Jersey driver’s license, according to law enforcement.
Authorities revealed today that shell casings found at the scene of the crime were inscribed with the words “depose” and “delay,” which is parlance in the insurance industry.
Thompson was on his way to a corporate event at the New York Hilton Midtown when he was shot in the back by the suspect who was lying in wait. The gunman fled on an e-bike toward Central Park. Police have since recovered a water bottle with a smudged fingerprint and a burner phone believed to have been carried by the suspect.
Authorities are offering up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. Grainy surveillance images of a “person of interest” in the case were released by the New York Police Department on Thursday.
