In Port Harcourt, a three-storey building collapsed



A three story building has to some degree imploded at the well known Bende Street in old Port Harcourt township, Rivers State.

The structure which is located at No. 112 Bende Street collapsed at about 2.00am on Wednesday, June 29.

It was gathered that the structure which was built over seven decades ago, has been in a regrettable state for over four years.

An observer said no life was lost just as there were no tenant in the structure.

“The structure was one of the oldest building in Port Harcourt known as colonial building. I believe it is one of the unwanted properties in Port Harcourt after the nationwide conflict. It collapsed at around 2.00am Wednesday however no life was lost. There were no tenant in the structure as of the time it fell” the observer said.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Iringe Grace Koko, who affirmed the incident, said there was no tenant in the structure before it collapsed.

In the interim, officials of the Ministry of Urban Development and Physical Planning are currently working with the proprietors of the property to pull it down totally to hinder any further fiasco.
