A defendant in the gang and racketeering trial of alleged Young Slime Life (YSL) members was injured in an altercation with another inmate at the Fulton County Jail’s South Annex in Union City on Sunday.

Deamonte Kendrick, also known as rapper Yak Gotti, received treatment for minor injuries from a sharp object, a Futon County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said. Kendrick will be in court today.

The Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said the incident was under investigation to determine the aggressor and if charges will be pending.

Jurors have been considering since Nov. 26 whether to convict Kendrick and Shannon Stillwell on gang, murder, drug, and gun charges in a year-long gang and racketeering trial, WABE reported.

The pair were charged in the 2015 killing of Donovan Thomas Jr. in an Atlanta barbershop. Prosecutors said Stillwell and Kendrick are members of the violent YSL street gang co-founded in 2012 by rapper Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams.

The Sheriff’s Office and Fulton County Commission were criticized for inhumane conditions at the Fulton County Jail by the U.S. Department of Justice, which released a report detailing what it said were violations of civil rights. Fulton County Commission Chairman Robb Pitts and Sheriff Pat Labat said the county started working on issues pointed out in the DOJ’s report long before its release.
