The Brookhaven Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run accident that left a pedestrian unconscious on Buford Highway.

Bryan Torrez Ortiz, 26, was struck by a black 2015 Infinity Q50 with Georgia plates at 3630 Buford Highway, one block from his residence, on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 6:10 p.m.

According to an accident report, Brookhaven police officers found Ortiz unconscious, having sustained extensive serious injuries. Ortiz was transported to Grady Hospital.

The driver fled the scene on foot prior to the arrival of BPD. The vehicle sustained extensive disabling damage and was removed from the scene by Brown & Brown Wrecker Service, according to the report. The car is registered to a Brookhaven resident.

Brookhaven Police are actively conducting an investigation.

This is the latest of several pedestrian accidents that have occurred on Buford Highway. In August, a Brookhaven man died steps from his home after being struck by a vehicle on Buford Highway, and one year ago a grandmother was struck and killed while crossing the street.

The city of Brookhaven did not respond for comment.
