Atlanta Freedom Bands (AFB), a music nonprofit that represents the city’s LGBTQ+ community, is set to spread holiday cheer with its upcoming concert “To Kids from One to 92” on Saturday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m.

The event, which marks the 20th anniversary of AFB’s Concert Band, promises a night of festive music that “evokes happy holiday memories” of the initiative’s youth members, according to AFB.

Among the musical pieces that will be played during the evening program includes “Starbound,” an original composition by Bert Agripino, a senior at the University of West Georgia.

As part of AFB’s Student Composer Residency Program (which is now in its ninth year), Agripino’s original piece invites the audience to “lose themselves in the beauty and vastness of a star-filled sky on a dark winter night,” said AFB.

Hosting the night’s festivities are Atlanta-based comedy drag duo Olive d’Nightlife and Agatha Boogie, who will not only bring their humor and charm to the stage, but will also lead a special storytime segment for children of all ages.

“Whether you enjoy watching holiday specials, waiting for a rooftop visit from Santa’s sleigh, or winning as you spin the dreidel, our concert has something special for you,” said AFB Director of Development Cliff Norris.

Since its inception 20 years ago, AFB’s Concert Band has made a significant impact in the music scene, with notable achievements including the launch of the aforementioned Student Composer Residency Program, the commissioning of three new works for its wind band, along with premiering over a dozen music pieces.

“What a special way to celebrate 20 years of our Concert Band program!” said Norris. “The ensemble’s first performance was a holiday concert, so we are excited to return to our historic roots.”

The upcoming concert is slated to take place at the Church on Ponce and Highland, located at 1085 Ponce de Leon Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30306.

Parking will be available in a parking deck behind the church and surrounding lots and streets.

Tickets are priced at $20 for general admission and $15 for seniors and students, and can be purchased online at www.atlantafreedombands.com.

Leading up to the event, AFB will feature exclusive content about the composers and music on their Facebook page, facebook.com/AtlantaFreedomBands.
