2023 Election: Lawan, Akpabio, Umahi Missing As INEC Releases List Of Senatorial Candidate

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has on Friday, released the full list and particulars of the authentic and legal Candidates vying for various positions at the Federal level in the 2023 general elections, Page 36 learnt.

The list however, did not include the names of the Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan; a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio; and the Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi; whose names were illegally put on the list by their party’s Leadership, while deleting the authentic winners of the various Senatorial primary elections which the above 3 men never contested in.

Recall, that the trio had contested in the Presidential primary election of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, where they all lost, but were thereafter compensated by the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, with Senatorial tickets for election primaries that they never participated, in the list sent by the party’s Leadership to INEC, as their Federal Candidates for the 2023 general elections.

Nonetheless, speaking on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’, tonight, an INEC National Commissioner, Festus Okoye, said that the Commission is not obligated to publish the names of Candidates that did not emerge from valid party primaries.

His exact words: “If a political party submits to the Independent National Electoral Commission the name of a Candidate that did not emerge from party primaries, or did not emerge from valid party primaries, the Commission is not obligated to publish the name of such a Candidate.”
